This is a variant of an old I played before I got my Karns/Ugins/Ulamogs and stuff. I have a friend at FNM who is thinking of getting into modern, and was considering either mono-red phoenix or a budget variety of Tron. I'm putting together a list to test for modern, but don't think the current budget Tron lists capture the tron feeling. I feel like cards like Steel Hellkite and friends are too slow to accomplish the purposes they are subbing in for (And I know that it's inevitable, I just find it difficult). It isn't a budget list in the sense of only playing a few times, but more of a list for you to slowly ease into building a complete tron list. Any advice you have for making it better is greatly appreciated, and I would also like people to try the list out then tell me how you did. I'll be doing my best to do the same

So, I want to point out/explain one of the odd choices I've made for my list. Namely, my inclusion of Kozilek, the Great Distortion. Kozilek was my first Eldrazi Titan, traded off a friend for a copy of Approach of the Second Sun when it was standard legal. I've always liked the big guy, as not only is he a decent budget beater(he's a 12/12 menace, if they don't have death touch he's hard to kill) he also helps control the game through his ability to counter spells. Sure it wasn't very useful in standard, but a lot of the best cards in modern for dealing with giant creatures like Path to Exile or Terminate happen to share CMCs with our less desirable cards after we have Tron online like any number of Chromatic Sphere, Expedition Map, and Sylvan Scrying. In this list the Perilous Vault is nice as well, as it can counter a Cryptic Command or even a Jace, the Mind Sculptor. And aside from countering big things, it also refuel your hand to stop little things as well as finding another threat. Dead to an off the top Lightning Bolt? Not anymore as long as you have Cosi on the field and a Chromatic Star in hand.
