When Spontaneous Artist enters the battlefield, you get symbol:E

Pay symbol:E: Target creature gains haste until end of turn.

Without splashing colors you have Aetherwind Basker, but with red you can use Spontaneous Artist in tandem with Whirler Virtuoso or your arhictect and make those tokens have haste. Also there is Territorial Gorger. And of course plain ol' Electrostatic Pummeler and his crew.

I actually ran the module machine as my standard deck for a while because I was determined to make it go infinite and it was actually relatively straightforward to achieve, although with 5/6 moving parts it was difficult to actually assemble.

With Cryptolith Rite in from Shadows block and the Spontaneous Artist from Kaladesh, you could give the servos haste with the energy and then tap them for the mana to continue the cycle infinitely. Of course without something like Reckless Fireweaver you'd end up with millions of tapped servos that couldn't attack that turn. A lot of fun when it all fell in to place!

If you want to give hast to your Swallower, you could use either Hazoret's Favor or Spontaneous Artist (the first one is better though).

Hazoret's Favor is also useful for your small creatures aswell.

why not Spontaneous Artist?

Gotcha! Here are some budget alternatives with activated abilities that can help pump up your guy:

Skyship Stalker - many activated abilities at just one red mana each

Multiform Wonder - has 3 "free" activated abilities right when he comes out

Spontaneous Artist - could give your guy haste and +1/+1 (or haste to go along with Wandering Fumarole)

Hey CloudThumper it's been a while. I'm very happy with the wealth of Elves in Standard right now. There's so many that not all of them can go in a single deck. There's also tons of good/great build around cards for Elf strategies and support cards to strengthen strategies. This is exciting and a welcomed change in Standard. I playtested about 10 different Elf decks of varying color combinations with different build around cards and strategies. Golgari so far has been the best, splashing blue for Skyrider Elf brings some added fun.

Several of the best Elves this time around are expensive options with Rishkar, Peema Renegade leading in price and he will most likely go up more. Metallic Mimic is also not a budget Elf and Sylvan Advocate while more budget then the others is on the cusp. Expensive Elves is not a norm when it comes to Standard, but to get the power level of Elves to increase I guess price must also increase.

Of the Elves you mentioned I like both Ajani's Comrade and Cultivator of Blades as Elf options for budget brews. I'll most likely use both when I update Budget Energy Elves. Comrade's trample does seem very good with a +1/+1 counters strategy.

I playtested a Temur Energy version of this deck using Aetherwind Basker as the win condition. It's splashing red for Spontaneous Artist and Harnessed Lightning. Artist is great with energy because he can give Aetherwind haste for only one . Giving other Elves haste such as a huge Skyrider Elf is also nice. It's a fine version, it's fun, but I've found energy as the main and or only strategy to not be as powerful as +1/+1 counters.

If you recall the first version of Energy Elves played both Skyrider Elf and Woodland Wanderer with Servant/Sage/Attune/Hub/Lightning as the energy producers. Wanderer is a real beast, but I ultimately cut him in the version for Peema Outrider for more Elf synergy.

Wolfshadowwind, Spontaneous Artist is nuts with Aetherwind Basker giving it haste for only . Artist can also be good with mid and late game Longtusk Cub. Consider cutting 1x of each of Heroic Intervention and Highspire Infusion for 2x Artist to start. Both Intervention and Infusion are good, but 4x of each is a lot because they do require other cards to make them good.

Harnessed Lightning could replace Hungry Flames. Lightning goes with the energy theme and can kill many more creatures than Flames.

Another card to consider main deck or sideboard is Aethersphere Harvester since any mana Elves can crew it, it makes energy and can use energy to gain life. It's one of the best energy cards in the Aether Revolt set.

Good luck with your deck.

Hey everyone I just officially updated the deck with a complete Sultai version. Expect a new update some time soon explaining my card choices and more. I've added Grasp of Darkness and Walking Ballista to the main deck with another Ballista in the sideboard. Grasp is an instant speed answer to kill Felidar Guardian stopping the Saheeli Rai combo. It's also just an excellent versatile creature removal spell for an unknown metagame. Ballista can also stop the combo by removing a single counter targeting my opponent and redirecting killing Saheeli with her -2 ability targeting Guardian on the stack.

I've also added the first complete sideboard although the metagame hasn't even started. The sideboard will change a lot, but this is a starting point.

Here's a summary of four notable other fun versions that I've playtested, but they ultimately just missed the cut because they are all too slow and not as powerful compared to Sultai. Only one uses energy.

djnewellmit, Armorcraft Judge is amazing now. I'm so glad she's an Elf. In my testing she's been the best draw engine because she's not just a spell, but a creature to put counters on.

I recommend adding Walking Ballista not only is it a colorless out to the Shaheeli combo, but it's just an excellent versatile creature because it can potentially kill with damage creatures, your opponent or Planeswalkers. It's an mana sink as well as having great interaction with the +1/+1 counters strategies.

HairyManBack, MidnightTrain: Yes Walking Ballista when it enters the battlefield will get an additional counter for each Winding Constrictor you control. Likewise if you use it's activated ability to put a counter on it, it will get an additional counter for each Constrictor you control.
