Lord Xander, the Collector

Legendary Creature — Vampire Demon Noble

When CARDNAME enters the battlefield, target opponent discards half the cards in their hand, rounded down.

When CARDNAME attacks, defending player mills half their library, rounded down. (They put those cards from the top of their library into their graveyard.)

When CARDNAME dies, target opponent sacrifices half the nonland permanents they control, rounded down. (Dying is put into the graveyard from the battlefield.)

Hey wideline1414! Sorry I didn't see your comments til tonight. Aside from Nightscape Familiar, Heartless Summoning doesn't really impact any of the creatures in the deck and most of them it's more important to get them out sooner than having slightly reduced power/toughness. Thanks for the comments! I'd love to see a list if you've got one of your Lord Xander, the Collector!

Agreed on Bruvac the Grandiloquent would make a great addition in here, but neither of my local shops have had him all year. I'm going to some shops on the other part of the state and if I can find one, I'll for sure pick one up. Dropping him down then casting Traumatize would feel so good!

A fellow fan, nice. Btw, the changes I'm recommending are based on established vampire decks that have seen some success in competitive play online, though not to the same degree as the most popular deck in the format, Rakdos midrange. Vampires used to be an alternative black midrange deck that was worse but didn't auto-lose to Burn game 1. Vampires have fallen out of popularity a bit but they still exist as a fringe tier 2 deck. They can still win locals and online competitions.

There's a Rakdos version of the deck I recommend that aims to utilize Sorin to drop Olivia, Crimson Bride and Lord Xander, the Collector who are both very strong with Sorin. I consider Orzhov to be less fun and explosive in comparison, but much more consistent overall. Although Rakdos does have access for the best vampire in recent memory, Bloodtithe Harvester. That and it can use Dreadbore.

My 2 Pioneer decks are Rakdos midrange and Orzhov vampires. Rakdos is better overall but vampires are more fun for me personally.

One last thing, there's going to be 2 new legendary vampires in the new set, and I could see Drana and Linvalda or whatever her name is making sideboard for BW. The big thing for me though is Ghalta and Mavren, which is Green/White but is still a vampire and can therefore be dropped turn 3 for no mana via Sorin. 12/12 trample Vamprie Dinosaur, whenever you attack you spawn an attacking dinosaur with p/t equal to your strongest creature's power, or alternatively creates that many 1/1 lifelink vampires. The issue is it's 100% dead in hand without Sorin but is probably the strongest Sorin drop from sheer power alone.

I think Lord Xander, the Collector is a worthwhile commander. My favorite thing is the dies trigger. Try Pox, Liliana of the Veil and Smokestack to help Xander die while adding synergy with Xander's control aspects.

Wolfsbane706 on How Many EDH Decks Do …

I recently put together a sixth EDH deck with Urza, Lord Protector  Meld at the helm. I don't have any up-to-date lists of what I have built but I do have a couple lists on site.

Decks with lists:

Decks without lists:

  • Riku of Two Reflections spellslinger with a focus on accumulating buttloads of mana for X-damage spells. Need to upgrade the mana base a little bit and probably run some better global damage spells.
  • Lord Xander, the Collector obvious mill deck. Still in beta stages but it's plenty powerful.
  • Golos Gatespam! but with Jodah, Archmage Eternal running it. The deck is still built around Golos so it needs some revamping.
  • The aforementioned Urza deck.

Lord Xander, the Collector sounds like a great match.

For cheap ramp try Dark Ritual, Cabal Ritual, Pyretic Ritual, Desperate Ritual, etc.. getting Lord Xander, the Collector into play turns early to maximize opponents discard seems good.

Lol added Lord Xander, the Collector. Possible mill victory? With Marchesa, the Black Rose, he'll just keep coming back to life.

Sideboarded Echo Mage since my total sorceries and instants is only 12 anyway.
