Update after some thoughts

CloudTurkey, 12 years ago

-4 slitherheads, +4 young wolves. Decided I would rather have the cheap blockers that come back then an extra counters on my bigs. -3 Ulvenwald Bear, +3 Gatecreeper Vine. Want to save my 3 drop for the Connoisseurs and would rather ramp up to my main win condition (corpsejack + hydra) then have a chance at a 4/4 (or 6/6) for 3 mana. -1 Rancor. They keep coming back. 4 was overkill. -1 Hunger of the Howlpack, +1 increasing savagery. Give me something to do with my mana if the game stalls. +2 Blessing of Nature. Obviously hoping for the miracle top deck. -1 Connoisseur. Only really need one in play to set up morbid. Took out some morbid so I can afford the lower percentage of drawing a connoisseur.

Side Deck

tlockdownj, 12 years ago

Okay my side deck is what I feel I am going to need to make adjustments for, however I will still be updating it constantly and it will definitely need improvement. Anyways let me move on to the side deck,

I chose Witchbane Orb for a way to protect myself from dicarding cards, and taking direct damage that I don't have to. I am not sure how many of these I want in my side deck because I feel one is not enough so I might put around 2 or 3 just to ensure the safety of being able to draw it.

Next, I chose Brimstone Volley because it is an instant morbid that deals 5 damage. This compensates for the high cost Bonfire of the Damned can get if you don't use it's miracle ability. It can also be used to control the battlefeild if they don't spawn weak creatures.

I chose Slaughter Games because it is a very good card, but the cost is very high. However this would be used after game 1 to prevent the opponents strategy or get rid of enchantments which I cannot do.

Nivmagus Elemental would serve its purpose if I were head up against a counter based control deck. If they decided they can counter my spells I can direct this card's ability towards them and use this sucker to prevent the countering of the spell to make each instant and sorcery pointless and making him really powerful. This card would replace my Rakdos Cackler.

Last card in my side deck is Rakdos Charm to either prevent a massive spawning of counters or graveyard retrieval, reanimation, deck. Plus, the destroying of an artifact can always come in handy.

As I said before my side deck has been chosen without much play from my deck

Control

Slycne, 12 years ago

Added Curse of Echoes and Angel of Glory's Rise to the maybeboard as potential means to disrupt or counter control decks. Curse of Echoes let's me throw their stuff back at them or even the board state after an Entreat the Angels. Angel of Glory's Rise is better against destructive sweepers.

Updated Deck

tlockdownj, 12 years ago

Okay so I replaced Searing Spear with Pillar of Flame not just for the mana cost, but also for the exiled effect. I am going to miss the instant cost of searing spear, but I feel it will be worth it. Next, I took out Hellhole Flailer and put in Soulcage Fiend for the effect of them trying to get rid of my creatures will cost life. Lastly, I put in Bonfire of the Damned instead Brimstone Volley. While Brimstone Volley is a great finisher I thought of a way to turn Bonfire of the Damned into a finisher. If I were to have out some Soulcage Fiends i could easily Bonfire of the Damned my self after combat and if they took the three damage already they would take another three per fiend. This is if I have control of the game, but it is just an option. If not that option I could easily just Pillar of Flame one of them as well, but I most likely will be trying to take out their creatures with this card.

Now, it is time to build up my side deck. If anyone has any suggestions on help building my side deck please comment.

Tweak update - Took out the singleton Curse of Death's Hold and Slaughter Games in favor of Rakdos Keyrune. I really like the former two cards, but they're much better board material, no matter how useful they could be game 1, the Keyrune will always be useful. Also fit in a second Rakdos's Return main deck as it has been a star recently. Took out the Diabolic Revelation/Elixir of Immortality combo in favor of Sever the Bloodline to help a bit in the control matchup if they get Entreat off and add some more spot removal. Changed up the walkers to 2 Lili/2 Chandra rather than 3/1. Trying Curse of the Pierced Heart in the sideboard for the control matchup.

A few more changes

Zephyrr, 12 years ago

Got rid of Talrand, Sky Summoner which is sad since I traded for him but felt like he was too slow and again prone to destruction. Put Mizzium Mortars back in cause that overload is so damn sexy and now I do not have to rely on Miracle costs!

Also changed out Syncopate for dissipation. Since I am no longer running electromancer, this card is working much better C:

FNM

ChuckLee, 12 years ago

Took this deck to FNM this Friday, I did not do well.

Match 1: I was up against a jank Bant control deck.

Game1: The first game took a very long time, we were both throwing down detention spheres and o-rings and I was throwing down martial laws and even got the curse of exhaustion down, and I got him down to about 3 life and was sitting pretty at 17 life. Then he got rid of the Curse and played Sphinx's Revelation for a lot and throw down too many things. He took game 1.

Game 2: I got out a Fencing Ace with a spectral flight and an Ethereal Armor and swung in for ten. He got rid of it. I dropped a Geist, and threw a couple enchantments on him and eventually swung in for the game.

Game 3: I got mana screwed and he took the game easily.

Match 2: I got a buy.

Match 3: I was up against G/W Martial Law deck.

He won 2-0 because I had mana issues both games.

Match 4: I went up against a U/R Mid-Range.

Game 1: I won with a Fencing Ace and a Geist, he also had some mana issues.

Game 2: This was a close battle all the way through, he won with a combo involving two Guttersnipes a Pillar of Flame and a Syncopate for 0 for the win.

Game 3: Another close round, I couldn't draw creatures all I could get were martial laws, and other enchantments, land and a creature every so often. He eventually got enough board presence to sweep throw all my enchatments for the game and the match.

What I am changing: I am going to be removing the Dungeon Geists and the Righteous Authortiys for different cards. I am going to try out New Prahv Guildmage and Azorius Charm.

The Dungeon Geist were, more often then not, just a dead card in my hand, and Fiend Hunters were just so much better.

As for the Righteous Authoritys, I just really wanted them to be good, but they weren't helpful at all. There are far better cards to put in place of them.

Primary Build - Chicago GPT

darkr3x, 12 years ago

First build went well, using four spark elementals in place of Bob until I can acquire 4. Hits like a truck and Lightning Helix helped deal with how much damage I do to myself with my mana base. Won all of my game one matchups, lost game three against RUG Delver match 3 and got eliminated (we only had eight people playing)

More counters!

Slycne, 12 years ago

More revisions and refining. I think I've found the avenue I wanted to pursue with this. Deadly Allure on Primordial Ooze makes for some nasty creature removal and just makes it that much bigger. I dropped most of my one drops, but I feel more comfortable hitting my mana for a turn 2 Strangleroot Geist. Deathrite Shaman, Desecration Demon, Tormented Souls and Vampire Nighthawk all had their advantages, but didn't quite fit with where I was taking this. And Primordial Hydra just seems like an absolute beastly counters engine with quadrupling with Corpsejack Menace and hitting obscene numbers with Necropolis Regent.

Speed it up!

ReKill, 12 years ago

After a few changes that included Blood Artist and Bump in the Night, I got reamed and lost outright at FNM, which was a pretty big difference from the 3rd place the week before. I took out the Artists and Bloodthrones, dropped Mutiny to a 2-of, and added a good deal more burn, along with Vexing Devils. Also put the bloodline keepers back in. Deck has a great transition between the great aggro start into a mean growing midrange. Will update after next FNM.

FNM and home testing

crusader1234, 12 years ago

Both times i have brought this to FNM has gave me a 1st place and a promo evolving wilds this month. I didnt put up any sideboard however i will say it contains more board sweepers, centuar healer and some other anti EXTREME aggro like Red Deck Wins. Against control i never really seem to have a problem, my ramp allows me to quite often put out armada wurms on turn 4/5 if i want too. Otherwise i keep the mana open for dissipate. The deck has very high amount of removal with 4 o rings, 4 detentnions spheres, 4 supreme verdicts and if you want to count these which i would it has 4 dissipates and 2 syncopates. Along with the fact an angel of serenity can easily come in and be used as removal. Very often its remove three to swing in for the win, Or bring back some even worse threats from my graveyard. If i have 2 angel of serenitys it starts a horrible cycle for them. Anyways to my point of this deck is no matter what i test it against it seems to come out on top. Please test this deck yourself and make your own sideboard i cant tell you what would be good for your meta game. i decided it would be stupid to describe everygame and how it went and that itd be better to just describe (generally) how a game goes against each type of deck. As for the last type of deck, midrange, it is by far the easiest win for this deck. It is not fast enough to put me down low enough im in trouble and it doesnt have enough control aspects for late game.

Tournament Test

TurtleintheShell, 12 years ago

Went to the tournament and as I assumed got beat up pretty bad. Had a great time though and put my deck through some serious stress testing. 0-8 record. Probably not going to bring this deck for a few tournaments until I can get it functioning smoother. This is how the deck stands after the tournament. Added Mortify and Thraben Doomsayer to help protect my creatures and give me an offense as well as my alt win condition.

PLEASE check out my new reanimator deck

crusader1234, 12 years ago

My reanimator deck seems to have a firm advantage over the typical reanimator deck and does better on average against all other decks than the reanimator decks i found on states championship decklists, mtg pulse and random decklists.

Almost done

micktasty, 12 years ago

Almost finished gathering all the cards I need, man it was a lot, so much trading. Alas, still trying to figure out the sideboard.
