Here's an idea for a Zephyr scribe combo deck. Our goal is to collect the following:

  1. Retraction Helix
  2. Zephyr Scribe
  3. Spidersilk Net or Briber's Purse
  4. Altar of the Brood or Elusive Spellfist

The core parts

are Zephyr Scribe and Retraction Helix . We aim to set up combo bouncing a 0-cost artifact, generating infinite triggers of one of the executors: Altar of the Brood - to mill the opponent's library or alternatively Elusive Spellfist - for infinite unblockable damage.

Collecting the pieces

To achieve our goal we are using these cards:

Taigam's Scheming - best on turn 2, to set up the draw, filter what we already have.

Gather the Pack - to collect the creature parts of the combo: Zephyr Scribe and Elusive Spellfist.

Dig Through Time - by far the best thing we could have here, and also the biggest investment you will make completing this list, but it gives so much flexibility it's totally worth it.

With Taigam's Scheming and Gather the Pack you can set up a dig on turn 3 (which is not optimal, but still saves you sometimes).

Piece protection

here's where things could be much better but so far I haven't figured it out.

Ranger's Guile is as good as it seems to ever be, you can dig for it and cast it with just 3 mana open which is crucial because we rarely get above 4 land. Setting the draw (provided a 3-land hand) you usually remove land with Taigam's Scheming from your way. You want to go as fast and deep into the library as possible, and cast your scribe on turn three (at least in the first game, when the opponent might be reluctant to remove it early).

Swan Song - might have more utility, but so far I haven't tested it enough.

I hope You will enjoy this deck as much as i do. For me the unique experience of the puzzle-solving gameplay has been fabulous. This deck sets challenges, but it also can quite reliably go off on turn 4. Please share Your thoughts on what could make this list better, especially when it comes to combo piece protection.

I would like to give SpiritFangz the credit for his deck

which inspired me to tinker with the Zephyr scribe. What i present here is but a reinterpretation of his idea, in a blue-green, a bit more costly shell.

Enjoy!

Updates Add

I finally made it to play this deck at FNM. I went 2-2. It turns out it's quite consistent, but creature protection is crucial. As I still own no copies of Swan Song and probably won't be buying them, rotation being so close, I picked a playset of Ranger's Guile.
To sum up the event:
- I got the combo in 5 games.
- Zephyr Scribe died to Fiery Impulse 2 times, once to Banishing Light and once to Fleshbag Marauder
- Don't play Zephyr on T3.
- I had fun.

I'll try my best to play at least one FNM before Retraction Helix rotates with more protection. If I make it, I'll report here for sure. Till then, thanks for Your support of the deck and have fun playing it!
