Tribal Soldiers With a Side of Boros

Modern* Aggro RW (Boros) Tokens

Havock

Sideboard

Sorcery (2)

Enchantment (2)

This is a deck has changed quite a bit over the last year. I have a hard time making decks since I always get the basis of the deck made and then find a new mechanic I didn't know about that changes my plans. This deck is certainly no exception. At first the whole idea of the deck was to generate tokens to get big damage from Purphoros, God of the Forge. At this point it seems that very little remains of the old deck and now I have a deck based around Preeminent Captain. This card is unbelievably powerful, but at the same time it is very vulnerable. Most removal reaches this guy and makes it very easy to shut down the deck. I'm looking for options to speed things up to hopefully outrun as much removal as possible. If we manage to get rolling, the soldiers become an unstoppable force that plow through most decks.

This deck is very straightforward. We want Preeminent Captain on the board as soon as possible. He is the key to our decks aggression, and the main way to reach our win conditions. I currently have Iroas, God of Victory to help him in combat, but I also have Boros Charm to provide indestructible for any pesky removal.

While Preeminent Captain is the star of the show, there are plenty of other noteworthy aspects to this deck. As expensive as she is, Nahiri, the Harbinger makes an appearance here. She is a solid form of removal for enchantments, artifacts, and creatures. There is little to complain about with her, and if the ultimate goes off we have a fun creature to go along with it. Aurelia, the Warleader is our main target for when the ult happens since she provides massive presence over a single turn. For the time being I have added 2 Legion's Initiative in the sideboard for some shenanigans. If the ultimate goes off and we get Aurelia out, Legion's Initiative can be used to keep her on the board past the turn. This can be huge if the 3 combat phases isn't enough... What? You confused as to why I said 3 combat phases? When a creature is exiled, it is considered to be a new creature. This is why having Aurelia exiled can be incredible. It will glue her to the board since she will not be restricted by Nahiri's ult, and she will also be able to trigger her own ability a second time for a total of 3 combat phases. Pretty cool right? It isn't something that will happen often and certainly shouldn't be your main goal, but it is one of those fun mechanics that I couldn't help but throw in here. If you feel like going for it, then swap out the Honor of the Pure for the two Legion's Initiative and give it a shot.

Overall this deck has taken me a lot of time to construct and has changed more times than I can count. There are still more changes I would like to do since I don't have a complete sideboard, but as it stands I like what the deck is trying to do. If you have any advice for this deck than I would really appreciate it. I would especially appreciate any advice about sideboards since I have absolutely no idea what to throw in them.

LONG LIVE THE BOROS LEGION
