Why play this:

1) The idea is that Solar Flare's mana curve is sketchy, so what color do you get rid of? Blue. A lot of you might be clicking the "Back" button without counter spells, or Snapcaster Mage or Consecrated Sphinx. But, I've dealt with a lot of those issues.

2) Despise replaces issues with a lack of Mana Leaks. Not only that, but it deals with all of the hexproof creatures out there in the meta.

3) Bloodgift Demon acts as the Sphinx in this deck. Obviously, it's a poor man's Sphinx in terms of ability, but there are advantages. 1) It costs one less. 2) It's not as vulnerable (i.e. Doom Blade) 3) It can deal damage if you are confident you have the answers to your opponent's possible threats. Also, with Talisman, you get it out a turn earlier.

4) You can run 4 Lilianas and consistently get her out Turn 3.

5) The ability to gain life. Pristine Talisman and Elspeth Tirel allow you to gain life. Against many aggro decks, this is crucial because it's difficult for them as their goal is to hit you for 20 fast and quick. 22-30 becomes harder. [Update: I decided I wanted to be more disruptive in the beginning of the game, so I removed the Talisman for Sphere of the Suns and Elspeth for Gideon].

6) Plenty of removal and disruption. Here are ways to deal with the meta currently:

Illusions - Despise, Distress, and Tumble Magnet. Especially if there is no Lord of the Unreal. Gut Shots for SB help.

Volt Charge/RDW - O-Rings for Shrines or Chandra's Phoenix, Doom Blade, Go for the Throat, and Despise. Revoke Existence and Gut Shot for SB.

Humans - Despise and Liliana take over to deal with Geist. Take the same philosophy as above.

Wolf Run - Obviously a tough match-up for any deck, but Liliana helps out a bunch here with Thrun or Dungrove. Tumble Magnet helps G1 with certain creatures, but expect Ancient Grudges. Gut Shot, Ghost Quarter, and even Revoke Existence can help against Inkmoth Nexus.

Other Control decks - The fact that you can get Liliana out so quickly and they will likely have no answer, especially if you can resolve a Despise and/or Distress T2, you have the upper hand. Also, most Blue-Black controls have no hexproof creatures for you to worry about if they get an advantage early. Nihil Spellbomb comes in and as risky as it sounds, you may need to switch out your Sun Titans for Grave Titans if you suspect/see a Surgical Extraction or a Memoricide.

When to Mulligan:

If you get 1 land. Don't risk it.

If you get 2 Plains (or more) and no Swamps.

Ideal Hand(s):

2 Swamps, 1 Plains (or even Sphere), 1 Despise or Distress, 1 Removal Spell, 1 Liliana, and the last card can be really anything save for a land and you'll be happy.

Win Condition(s): 1)Bloodgift comes out to draw two each turn, land a Sun Titan (mostly everything costs 3 or less).

2) Unburial Rites and Sun Titan or Bloodgift or Elesh Norn paying the flashback cost

3) Blade Splicer T3 or T4 alongside Liliana. It's designed just right that you'll almost always land a Titan, Bloodgift, Gideon, or Elesh.

I'd really welcome comments, thoughts, and ideas. I want to make this deck as good as possible. The deck is salty, but it's effective.

Suggestions

Updates Add

  • -3 Pristine Talisman
  • -1 Tumble Magnet
  • -2 Elspeth Tirel
  • -1 Plains
  • -1 Traveler's Amulet
  • -1 Sun Titan

  • +2 Blade Splicer (I wanted to put early pressure on opponent, plus it helps if Liliana can't land T3).

  • +2 Sphere of the Suns (I took out the Talisman, and landing any bigs one turn earlier helps, not to mention just with the mana curve).
  • +3 Distress (I wanted to be able to take out counter spells, and Despise can't do that).
  • +2 Gideon Jura
  • +1 Ghost Quarter

SB:

  • -1 Go for the Throat (there's enough disruption/removal MB, let alone with the Gut Shots and Revoke Existence for Mono-Red and Wolf Run.
  • +1 Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite
