--------------------------------Intro to originality------------------------------------------------------

Normally, This is where I Brag about my decks being so original, Sadly in standard there's hardly much place to create anything new. So Let's skip to the next point.

--------------------------------The GearHulks-------------------------------------------------------------

I always wanted to build something around the gearhulks, they're original, fun and oppresive. The main problem is their mana cost in a format dominated by aggro decks. So let's try it out!

-----------------------------------The Cards--------------------------------------------------------------

Card draw: Cathartic Reunion & Tormenting Voice (discard those Gears)

Control: Fatal Push - Sweltering Suns - Duress - Noxious Gearhulk - Cataclysmic Gearhulk

Wincon: Noxious Gearhulk - Combustible Gearhulk - Cataclysmic Gearhulk

Reccursion: Refurbish - Supernatural Stamina - Liliana, Death's Majesty

--------------------------------How to refurbish that used Gear------------------------------------------

Turn 1-3:Early: There are 2 goals here, Control & setting it up. Cathartic Reunion - Tormenting Voice - discard the Gearhulks!

Turn 4-5:Midgame: This is where you shine, Get those gearhulk outs with Refurbish, Madcap Experiment & Liliana, Death's Majesty

Turn 6+:lategame: You draw tons of cards, and can pretty much play a gearhulk every turn.

Turn 1: - Fatal Push

Turn 2: - Cathartic Reunion & discard 2 gearhulks

turn 3: - Sweltering Suns

turn 4: - Refurbish or Madcap Experiment

turn 5: - Refurbish or Madcap Experiment or Liliana, Death's Majesty

Turn 6: more Gearhulks!

Every deck as weaknesses and this one is no exception.

Aggro deck needs to be contained if you don't draw sweltering or fatal push, you probably won't be going far past turn 4.

Control deck can make this really annoying, So you gotta hope he runs out of counterspells before you run out of fuel. Get in the kambals and brawlers for an more aggressive gameplan.

The biggest strength of this deck is the ability to cycle through to whole deck pretty fast, so if you sideboard in a few cards against a specific deck it will be really easy to reach it.

Draw/Cycle: Winged Shepherd - Canyon Slough - Cathartic Reunion - Tormenting Voice Combustible Gearhulk

------------------------------------------The End--------------------------------------------------------

I playtested this deck for about 25 games, Consistency feels really good as well as the mana base. You can pretty much drop a gearhulk turn 4 80% of the time.

Deck win ratio is really good against any non control(blue) deck.

Good matchups: GB delirium / servo-throne / ramunap red/ mardu vehicules / zombie / constrictor / rg ramp

Bad Matchups: Temur Energy / blue-red control / white-blue monument

Feel free to throw suggestions in, Improvements are always welcome!

Added 2 liliana mainboard to increase consistency of turn 5 gearhulks with her -3.Moved 2 sweltering suns to sideboard since I already have 3x Cataclysmic GearhulkAdded 4x Winged Shepherd mainboard for the easy deck cycling for priority cardsremoved 1 Bloodrage Brawler and moved 3x to sideboard.

God-Pharaoh's Gift is perfect for a Refurbish deck.

InfuriatedBrute Gotta admit it's not bad. Personally I'd rather hit a gearhulk with my refurbish tho.

I'll try some testing.

Thing is, the more gearhulks in your GY the better GFG gets.

InfuriatedBrute I see the point, but I could also run panharmonicon and close the game much faster.

July 8, 2017 7:14 p.m.

Ew, no. Panharmonicon is only going to double the ETB effects, which will typically mean "destroy one creature".

InfuriatedBrute after some testing, it worked really well so I'll be adding this as a 1 of.

Hollow One seems worth testing out too

DHWorlds I thought about it, he is already in my maybeboard.

But the fact is: I need stuff that doesn't die to artefact hate.Bloodrage Brawler helps with refurbish and can be droped turn 2 instead of 3.

Perhaps He could fit the sideboard and be a replacement to fatal push against control decks.

I think Foundry Inspector should be on your mainboard

deceased-monkey Thanks for the suggestion, I like the idea but sadly it seems pretty hard to fit it anywhere in the deck. all cards serves their purpose and I don't know what I could remove to include it.

While I agree it speed the gearhulks a bit, I'd rather run shephards and cycles them for a chance to return them as 4/4 flying/vigilance than play my gearhulk earlier. As far as the deck goes, it's really consistent with turn 4-5 gearhulks so playing foundry on turn 3 doesn't chance anything since I would've pretty much player a gearhulk on turn 4 anyway.

Lemme know what you think :)

Also hitting inspector with a Madcap Experiment feels bad man.

i've thinking about this deck since i visit mtggoldfish and prepare to build it.... but the main problem if we go against control, its a bad news..... but this is definitely a must try deck IMHO

hellkite Against control you can deck in 2x Kambal, Consul of Allocation & 4x Bloodrage Brawler

The point being if they destroy or counter the kambal/bloodrage they leave the chance open for a gearhulk drop later on these creatures gives nice body until you can cast gearhulk for their full cost.

You just need 1 combustible on the board and they can't really answer it without wasting 2 spells.

But I can't deny that control is a tough mathcup, probably the worst. This deck wrecks zombies and ramunap. Also I with the release of ixalan, there's more graveyard hate and even ETB hate.So I'm unsure where this deck is going if people sideboard them.

Nice to see someone else using Kambal, Consul of Allocation, he's worked wonders for my reanimator deck cuz we suck shit against control. Really liking the cycling tech, I was using Angel of Condemnation instead of the cycling angel, but I think that may change lol.

@jellowsmurf thank you!! I did try to use angel of codemnation, but the main problem is that it,s played on the same cost that everything that makes the deck work Refurbish Madcap Experiment, I thought cycling would do wonder to help us reach the cards we need. I did look at other cycling cards but vigilance, flying on a possible 4/4 body is just annoying to deal with for anyone :)
