This deck focuses on mostly permanents with double red symbols. Creatures with double in their cost fuel the Devotion you'll need to get your MVP, your God... out and into play as a Indestructible 6/5 creature.

Purphoros is a prominent aspect of the deck.
In short you're trying to trigger the God of the Forge to deal 2 damage to the opponent in a multitude of ways.
The first of which is the new Dash creatures.
Dash creature + Purphoros for 2 damage when they enter. Outpost Siege for another 1 damage when they leave. That's 3 damage or a repeatable Lightning Strike every turn! (On top of any combat attacking damage you manage to deal.) The cost varies from 2 to 5 mana for the Dash but if you simply have them enter and leave the battlefield, they don't even have to attack (unless there is an opening) so that your not risking them returning to your hand. You'll be able to do the repeatable burn damage every turn.
Dash is an excellent way to trigger this god's damage dealing effect which can close games out if left unchecked and let to get out of hand.
The god works quite well with Mardu Scout and any of the other Dash creatures.
Start with the low Dash of Mardu Scout. The
Mardu Shadowspear
in the sideboard are if you want to try to double cast two Dash creatures each turn, for 4 mana but also for more damage.
When you draw a better creature like
Vaultbreaker
/
Goblin Heelcutter
start using them for
Flamerush Rider gives us a token copy of anything for the turn as well as itself for Dash of . The Mardu Strike Leader in the sideboard does same thing sort've but tokens are permanent.
Kolaghan, the Storm's Fury gives us a Flying 5 attacker for Dash of
The focus is to just get creatures into play as fast and quick as possible & burn them down with Purphoros, God of the Forge. Abusing the new Dash ability is only one way to trigger entering creatures. Things like
Flamewake Phoenix
being brought back in over and over from the graveyard or tokens enterring via Goblin Rabblemaster and Flamerush Rider work all the same. If you really wan't to amplify Purphoros try adding in some Hordeling Outburst for triple entering triggers in one spell cast. 6 damage and three 1/1's to do with what you want.

Mardu Scout is arguably one of the best cards in the deck and for sure your best Dash creature early in a match. If you start with him in your opening hand then this deck can aggro out pretty quickly which makes it fun to play and sets many opponents on their heels. Their often not ready for the quick onslaught of a hasty 3/1 on turn two. So unless they have that perfect draw in their opening hands they are going to be in trouble by turn 3 or 4 when you've already dealt them 3-9 damage and now start to rush out other creatures/permanents. And then when
Fanatic of Mogis
hits the field and comes in for 6+ damage they'll be finished.
The only other double creature in Standard is Eidolon of the Great Revel. (We now have 8 out of 60 giving good draw odds.)
Eidolon of the Great Revel can be a little confusing. The drawback is you might end up dealing yourself a little damage but don't worry about inflicting a bit of damage to yourself. It will never deplete your life total completely. In the long run it won't matter. Sure it hurts when you play some cards but you should be dealing way more damage faster then them so you need not worry about it. Dealing 4-6 damage to yourself won't lose you the game. You don't really have to care about your life total until it hits zero.
Keep in mind you have ways around the damage. Dashing out
Goblin Heelcutter
and
Vaultbreaker
and other mid game Dashers gets you around dealing self-damage. You don't take the 2 damage from Eidolon of the Great Revel if they are 4CMC+ even though their Dash cost is only 3. (
Alesha's Vanguard
too from the maybeboard.) The self damage really only comes into play with a few cards and if your just getting 2 damage here and there it's nothing to worry about.
Eidolon of the Great Revel simply keeps the pressure on the opponent by helping you reach your win condition through damage dealt. A lot of the cards being played are going to be three mana or less. Nearly all control and burn spells. A lot of the better early creatures too. Only a few bigger creatures are played and even then the rampers they use usually will trigger the damage from the Great Revel. Clearly, this little fella wants us all to go big or go home...
If your opponent can't remove it right away, this might stop them from casting something they otherwise wouldn't think twice about. More than likely they'll cast it anyways but they'll end up taking some damage by just playing their cards if they go that route. Will it be game deciding damage? Probably not but it all adds up and helps you get over on them. If it is removed, your opponent will probably even take 2 damage when they cast that removal spell.
When they start to scramble to play cheaper spells and chase down all the damage Purphoros is dealing to them turn after turn they'll in turn just hurt themselves even more. Watching them struggle to deal with your fast aggro creatures while taking damage for each (fast) spell they cast is very self gratifying. They'll be damned if they do... damned if they don't pretty much.
With all the damage dealing effects you run... 2 damage here 2 damage there.... soon they'll have reached critical mass.
It's a good card for this deck solely on the Devotion purpose alone, giving you reason enough to keep it maindeck. You should keep it in...
Flamewake Phoenix
is your best creature with it being so damn hard to get rid of. For only it can come back (triggering 2 damage from Purphoros) and swinging for another 2 on top of it with hasty evasion through flying. The value on that is insane.
You only need a creature with base 4 power such as
Vaultbreaker
OR through Devotion your Purphoros, God of the Forge can do the trick becoming a creature. Even when he's just an enchantment you can use his ability to bring something from 3 power up to 4 power for the turn in order to bring back the Phoenix. Plenty of ways to trigger Ferocious on the Phoenix.
Finishers
Once you build up 5 on the board or more Purphoros becomes a creature. And then you're set.
The creatures/permanents also build your count towards Devotion spells (your other finishers) such as
Fanatic of Mogis
which takes full advantage of this devotion to red theme and deals lots of direct damage to the opponent and
Thunderous Might
- the other Devotion card. Put it on Purphoros and attack with a enormous creature. Use your can't block this turn cards like
Barrage of Boulders
to get him through untouched.
Dashers
Kolaghan, the Storm's Fury cast him for Dash at 5 mana, it gets Haste attacks that turn as a 5/5 flying and is returned to trigger Purphoros over again next turn. At the top of your curve he's the boss.
Flamerush Rider is another great Dasher in case you don't draw your Kolaghan. A lot of the times this deck just goes from one creature with Dash to the next better one. And it doesn't really get any better than this. When you're dealing 2 damage each time a creature enters, that becomes 4 when you dash with Flamerush Rider because he puts a token onto the battlefield tapped and attacking that's a copy of another target creature. Copy the Purphorus, God of the Forge for a tapped and attacking 6/5. Or copy anything... With Outpost Siege dealing damage when the token and dashed Flamerush Rider both leave. Not only will you get 2 damage for the Flamerush Rider dashing in but another 2 for the token... but you'll get 2 for them both leaving. 6 damage and you can do it over again next turn.
Goblin Heelcutter
helps Purphoros get through when attacking /
Horde Ambusher
can be flipped up for free. Making it so a target creature cannot block this turn. Even if you casted it from hand for instead of Manifest via
Rageform
. (Chandra, Pyromaster, Frenzied Goblin, and Hammerhand do this as well.)
Vaultbreaker
is another Dasher and way to get some Draws. Discard doubles you don't need.
Hammer of Purphoros is included as a double permanent. It gives all your creatures Haste when they enter, for those non-Dash creatures anyways. Take advantage if you can but make sure you can get through and don't kill your creatures off, the devotion on the field can be more important to you.
Also if it's late in the game and you're trying to chase down damage and get that last bit of life points snuffed out from the opponent it's ability to put out token creatures shouldn't be understated.
Putting out a cheap creature may not seem like much -especially at the cost of a land - but when your running it alongside it's corresponding god Purphoros, God of the Forge it means each time you put a creature out it's straight direct damage. You don't need a lot of mana in this deck anyways so if you find yourself with no creatures in your hand to cast don't be afraid to use this ability.
SIDEBOARD:
Stormbreath Dragon is just too good (Immune to Siege Rhino & Chained to the Rocks) but I prefer Kolaghan, the Storm's Fury in this deck for the Dash-a-bility it offers and the synergies with Purphoros. Basically same thing a 4+ power Flyer. A creature at the top of your mana curve.
Mardu Shadowspear
Mentioned above.
Mardu Strike Leader Mentioned above.
Hordeling Outburst Mentioned above.
MAYBEBOARD
Anger of the Gods +
Arcbond
with your dash creatures safe in your hand. And your Indestructible Purphoros, God of the Forge safe from the effects. Go ahead and board wipe their entire creature stockpile.
Chandra, Pyromaster
is another fairly cheap double permanent which counts toward devotion. Her [+1] is a repeatable
Goblin Heelcutter
Target creature can't block this turn basically. Her[-0] though is where she's useful. Exile the top card of your library. You may play it this turn. When you got the mana base you can play the top card off your library, speeding out more creatures with dash to trigger Purphoros damage.
If you include her add more sorcery/instant spells, burn spells perhaps like
Stoke the Flames
or maybe even a triple turn chance with
Temporal Trespass
Rageform
is an important new card for Devotion. Another permanent. On turn 4 you can cast it to Manifest a card if you have nothing else to cast and the card it plucks off the top of the deck could be anything. If the manifested card happens to be a creature you can flip it up for it's mana cost and now you got double strike and towards devotion with both permanents counting.
Jeering Instigator is not a double red but it can be manifested and flipped up for just and allows you to steal one of their creatures. That itself can be pretty powerful depending on what they control. I felt this deck needed a few more two-drops anyways.
Break Through the Line is a way to let Goblin Rabblemaster stay alive.
Check out my other decks, especially my very similar...
