mine is sort of similar to this, I never took it to FNM yet but let me know what you think, we could bounce ideas off each other? Jund-evelopment

Can you give some examples of what you would take out if your siding in Peak Eruption ? vs something that runs mountains.

EmperorRancor says... #4

Added: Peak Eruption Is a KEY card to put in if they are running mountains. After the first match if they're running Red I'd lose Polukranos, World Eater and Frenzied Tilling , as Peak eruption is much faster then frenzied tilling and can get them on MY turn 2. Polukranos is not as important if I can get land destroy and limit them to their 2 and 1 mana drops. My Sylvan Caryatid and Xenagos tokens are all I need to hold out against aggro type.

Hope this clears it up a little. Of course I can't go into EVERY specific scenario.

When you make ember swallower Monstrous you do you also sacrifice 3 lands? because i know it says each player not each opponent.

Yes, But with 4 Elvish Mystic s, 4 Sylvan Caryatid s, and 3 Xenagos, The Reveler s I never have had mana issues. Also, considering I only have 5 cards over 4 mana cost I can play most anything by turn 3.

Fun deck, I play tested it against my deck

deck chart Chandra and Friends! (5th at State)

and I beat it 3-0. I went best out of 5 and I ended up on top all times.

The first two games I was able to get out too many low drop creates and you were unable to stop my Chandra's Phoenix and Stormbreath Dragon and Desecration Demon . My fliers were a hassle to your deck.

I'm not trying to brag by saying I won I just play test to help better decks and I haven't play tested a land destruction. I think a good thing to sideboard in would be some cheap burn spells for early game to take out those little threats. Especially if you wanna go into late game. Maybe side in 4x Shock or 2x Lightning Strike for 4 total and 1 Magma Jet for 4 total. That might help on aggro decks.

Very true, but did you side in Peak Eruption or Flames of the Firebrand or Deathrite Shaman after the first match? Shocking a mountain on turn 2 would be devastating to any deck. And Deathrite is meant to eat your pheonix's. I did only see a few Desecrations and had to kill my own Stormbreath once. Flyers could be a problem I will admit. But against red It gets even harder to get land out against me. Im curious to know how you got to 5 mana as the only way control decks were able to get to even 5 was to counter spells. I would have to test your deck against mine in the fullest to really see what may happen. But fliers... I may need to side Arbor Colossus .

I usually don't sideboard, I just play the decks straight forward so I can see how to better improve them or what they need for sideboard. Like Peak Eruption is devastating to my deck lol I've only ever played it once and it was annoying ha. As for flames and death rite I think those are great sideboards for aggro and Chandra's Phoenix . Only thing I can say to that is maybe go with at least 3 of each on sideboard. If you want them to make a difference after side boarding you'll want to have enough to actually pull them in the next game.

And as for Arbor Colossus . your deck is good as is, I'm not sure you need him if you do want him id switch out Polukranos, World Eater main board, but he seems to be better suited for your ramping.

Mainly my land was able to come out because I got threats out early and I assumed you'd want to take care of them rather then blow up a land and lose next turn. So usually I was attempting to blow up land and if your health was dangerously low, then i would go after my creatures to prevent a quick loss.

Very true. Obvious decisions would be made on low life. I agree Polukranos, World Eater can stay. I didn't realize my sideboard wasn't at 15. Easy cards to add I'm going to add 1 Flames of the Firebrand and 1 Deathrite Shaman .

I don't prefer Anger of the Gods as I could lose my ramp creatures to it. Is there a better answer? Or should I sideboard 2 more Mizzium Mortars ? Any ideas comrades?

Burning-Tree Emissary and Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx . a possible turn 3 ember swallower monstrosity?

October 29, 2013 4:01 p.m.

rakdosrunner says... #13

I mean for two mana Electrickery overloaded will take out a lot of aggro cards, but it's not always guaranteed uk? It'd be nice if there was a 3 drop that dealt like 2 damage to all creatures or something ha

October 29, 2013 4:15 p.m.

EmperorRancor says... #14

JShooz I think thats a lot of faith just to hopefully get that combo. I feel Burning-Tree Emissary sets me back and I usually don't have much a of a field to utilize Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx

October 29, 2013 4:56 p.m.

JShooz says... #15

If you have four nykthos and four burning trees, it at the very least pops you down turn two with a 2/2 and either more burning trees or your mana dorks, such as sylvan caraytid and Voyaging Satyr or gives you mana to cast a free magma jet on top of board state. I would drop the 5 costs destroy target land and lightning strikes for the emissarys, but just imo. The combo idea is definitely a combo and has to have the pieces but in the format of standard, get a 2//2 out with a mana dork as well is a great turn two, the idea went top 4 in a pro tour recently too

October 29, 2013 5:05 p.m.

GamerSonX says... #16

well doing what you said JShooz would be straying away from the land destruction theme too much.

hear me out and consider it:

with all the 4 copies that a lot of aggro decks run now a days i think it would a funny, but highly effective one sided board wipe as opposed to a high cost overloaded Mizzium Mortars would be Homing Lightning .

honestly I have never seen the card used in constructed but don't you hate when they slam down 2 or 3 Burning-Tree Emissary in one turn? or 3 Rakdos Cackler by turn two?

or it could also wipe all of Master of Waves 's tokens for just 4 mana at instant speed as opposed to sorcery speed, if you don't have a ratchet bomb that is.

Can I get some input ideas on using Clan Defiance over Mizzium Mortars ??? Im skeptical since the deck performed perfectly but I think it could be a big improvement. Thoughts anyone?

The deck is awesome, but it got demolished by my Selesnya Aggro deck Tread with Caution (1st place FNM) I do love this deck though, it may be the next paper copy deck I make actually. Its good in slower matchups no doubt, but most of my cards use 2 mana some 4 at most. That could be why your deck doesn't do so hot, and since you don't wanna eat damage from Loxodon Smiter and Fleecemane Lion your almost forced to kill off your Sylvan Caryatid to survive. +1 from me though, awesome deck.

EmperorRancor says... #20

Thanks. I did well against long matchups for sure. No aggro but i like to think I'd fair well. Selesnya Aggro could be a problem. Hopefully I get a taste of it tonight.

Seems like a reasonable reaction to a heavy control meta, as long as you don't mind losing to aggro 100% of the time.

I started building this deck but not complete yet, it's a great idea. Have you thought about putting in some death touch creatures to deal with early aggro such as Wasteland Viper ? Could also blood rush an elvish mystic, block, kill a creature, yours still lives.

November 1, 2013 1:23 p.m.

jimaejackel says... #24

@ greenland_ lol.

it has 4 caryatid, 8-11 rampers, 7 creature burn (2 being board wipes) and six 4 drops with 5 back end, and three 2/2 token chump drops.

it has plenty of defense for aggro as much as any other deck does. it wouldn't lose more or less because its land D.
