Last nights FNM

Round 1 G/W Hexproof Arua's 2-0

Game 1 Turn 1: Both played land, he played a Gladecover Scout

Turn 2: He played a Fleecemane Lion and swings for 1. I played a Akroan Skyguard

Turn 3: Saw him Etheral Armor his Gladecover Scout and a Hopeful Eidelon, swung for 6. I swung in with 2x Titan's Strength for 9, used the scry to ditch a land off the top.

Turn 4: He played a Witchstalker swung in for 7, gained 1 life. I drew a Madcap Skills and played it on skyguard. Swung in with a Boros Charm on double strike to hit for 16.

Game 2

SB

-3 Chained to the Rocks

+3 Celestial Flare

Game 2 nothing happened, he kept a 1 land hand and died on turn 5 having never drawn another.

Round 2 B/W Humans 2-0

Game 1

Turn 1: Both played land, I played a Favoured Hopilite

Turn 2: He played a Precinct Captain. I played a Madcap Skills, swing for 5

Turn 3: He played a [{Xanthid Necromancer]], swung for 2 and made a token. I played a Titan's Strength and GodsWilling and snuck in 10 damage, used scry to ditch a land from the top.

Turn 4: He played a Athreos, God of Passage swung in for 5, made a token. I swung in and won as he had forgotten madcap skills forces to double block or not at all.

Game 2

SB

-4 Ethereal Armor

+4 Swift Justice

Turn 1: Both played land, he played a Boros Elite I played a Favoured Hopilite

Turn 2: He played a Precinct Captain, swung for 1. I played a Favoured Hopilite

Turn 3 He played a Boros Elite and a Precinct Captain. Swung Boros Elite and Precinct Captain. I Swift Justice one of my Hopilites, killing his captain and take 1 damage (but gained 3. so I am at 21 life now)

Turn 4: He only played a land. I Swung with my 2/3 Hopolite and pumped with a Titan's Strength to hit for 6. used scry to keep a boros charm.

Turn 5: He played Athreos, God of Passage, swung with his Two boros elites and Precinct Captain. I used a Swift Justice to kill his other captain, electing to take 3 damage to GY it, taking 9 Damage, gaining 3 back. (15 Life). I drew my Boros Charm and swung, hitting for 8. He is on 6

Turn 6: He plays a Xathid Necromancer and passes turn. I play a Gods Willing and he scoops.

Game 3 I don't have many notes from as it was a pretty intense game. I played Boros Burn. Lost game 1. Won game 2 and 3 by siding in Ajani's Presence and using charms for board clears. Games went to about 15 rounds each time. Was very close. Sorry I didn't get notes for this was to focused on the game

Game 4 Mono B 1-2

Game 1 I ended in a turn 3 win Favoured Hopilite + Madcap Skills + Titan's Strength + Boros Charm

Game 2 I got land screwed completely. No red. This is why I am thinking of running 4x boros Guild gate and 4x [{Temple of Triumph]]

Game 3 He nailed a great draw. T1 Thoughtseize, T2 Doomblade, T3 Pack Rats T4 Desecration Demon T6 onwards was lots of Pack Rat Tokens. I kept an average hand and drew into nothing.

Ended the night 3-1, coming second. Opened a shiny Pharika, God of Affliction and a normal Erebos, God of the Dead from my 3 packs. All in all I am happy with the performance. The deck does need a smoother mana base, but the only way to achieve that is to run with Sacred Foundry and Mana Confluence, which will cost 2x the decks present value. Or t use more Boros Guildgate but that risks slowing the deck down to much. I may playtest with 2x Boros Guildgate and see how tig oes.

Have you considered any Fall of the Hammer ? I am running a very similar budget deck, and it's one of the coolest cards! Triggers heroic, cheap, instant, takes out a deathtouch creature no problem, and can be used against 2 of your own creatures to trigger heroic on both if they're strong/weak enough. It's a great cheap card, although I suppose if you are more running toward enchantments it's not that great. Sweet deck though!

Have you considered Fencing Ace ? You already have a pretty good board, but I thought it would still be worth mentioning, hes a beast with a few enchantments on him.

nice list; +1. have you tried Revoke Existence in sideboard?

May 7, 2014 4:44 p.m.

Nice deck, kinda like mine. You should look at it. Called Supah-Men.

not bad considering its under $50, but you've got to remember this doesn't compete with anything outside of FNM. Its even too slow against competitive fringe decks.

May 7, 2014 7:56 p.m.

Thanks for all of the responses guys!Fall of the Hammer will be a maybe board card for if I need removal. it would be a solid turn 3 removal I think.

Fencing Ace isn't to bad, Could take Hero of Iroas or Akroan Skyguard s spot, I may playtest him a little!

Revoke Existence would be an option if i start to face many enchantments

@teamplayerx The deck is budget. You can improve it y adding things like Sacred Foundry and Mana Confluence to speed up mana balancing. It's been play tested vs Mono Black Devotion, Mono Blue Devotion and Gruul Monstours and has decent win rates. VS those decks certain cards carry the games. It is dependent on card draw (but, which game isnt?) add the faster mana base and it performs more reliably.

Have you considered Martial Glory while it's still in Standard? It can trigger Heroic for two targets, including potentially saving one from damage/burn while buffing another offensively.

Love it +1. I ran something like this for a while when Theros was released then I stopped playing standard and moved into modern. It was a really fun deck to play. With the release of Journey into Nyx Akroan Skyguard and Satyr Hoplite pull so much additional weight.

Coordinated assault could do some major damage in this deck.

May 8, 2014 9:36 a.m.

Thanks for the +1's guys!Coordinated Assault is int he SB. I pull it in vs aggro decks or vs control (to ramp stuff faster)

Oh ok I didn't see it there. My bad.

Also righteous charge would be good in this.

May 8, 2014 9:50 a.m.

Righteous Charge doesnt target for heroic affect, but it could be handy

So I suggest dropping Eidolon of Countless Battles and Chained to the Rocks. This kind of deck needs to win by turn 4 or 5, and They're both kind of slow for this deck. Ajani's Presence Is great for heroic and to dodge removal. And adding another Gods Willing does the same, and can make creatures practically unblockable.

Chained to the Rocks is amazing. Leave it in! I might even run the full set mainboard. It's 1 mana removal for anything short of pro white. Additionally, even in the absence of opposing creatures, you can play it out for the sole purpose of improving Ethereal Armor .

May 8, 2014 1:09 p.m.

reptarjesus says... #17

Oh and I'd drop the Temples and add Sacred Foundry . You don't have time to have lands come in tapped.

May 8, 2014 1:17 p.m.

I agree ckliseIt has won me several games,s tripping a defender on turn 3 to stop them being able to block a Madcap Skills creature

@reptarjesus this is a budget deck. a set of Sacred Foundry cost more then this whole deck does. Ideally it would run 4x them and 4x Mana Confluence . But that's almost double the decks cost in mana cards. Making it no longer budget

May 8, 2014 1:26 p.m.

I would say definitely run, or at least sideboard, either Revoke Existence or Deicide . The reason? Gods.

May 8, 2014 4:25 p.m.

Also, both your mainboard and your sideboard are very white-heavy. I would recommend that you adjust your land ratio.

Any chance you could go into some detail on those wins? I built a deck like this one and am taking it to fnm tomorrow, but I don't know how it'll stand up to my meta.

chubbyboy45 says... #22

Phalanx Leader might have a place in this deck

May 8, 2014 6:20 p.m.

@cannon_Spectacle I have a set of Revoke Existence for if I start to see god cards, but I haven't played any yet. So this IS an option for people whom have god's prevalent in their meta. Also mana base has been fixed a little, I forgot that i removed some Red and replaced with white cards so completely forgot tot fix mana base.

@NobleRooster I'll add a blow by blow of my games later, at work atm and I don't have my

@chubbyboy45 I discussed Phalanx Leader earlier. WW is a bit expensive and hard to get out on a budget mana base. If you ran with Sacred Foundry and Mana Confluence it would be worth running as the mana base is more stable

May 8, 2014 11:19 p.m.

@AmbientRaven in the global metagame, I know Thassa is really popular. I've also seen plenty of Erebos and Karametra. There are other popular enchantments that you'd want to get rid of, such as Whip of Erebos and Underworld Connections. Bottom line is that you always want to sideboard some form of enchantment removal if possible.

But whatever, if the deck is working fine for you, be my guest. And I don't know about you, but whenever I build a budget deck, I gradually put money into it to make it more competitive. Like when I slowly got the money I needed for Boros Reckoners and Sacred Foundries.

Great deck! But my only problem is that it could absolutely be demolished by a standard burn early game by wiping your creatures before you get a chance to activate heroic.
