Altar of Bone Discussion

Bad_Dog on Bant Base w/ survival and walks

We already spoke about these already but I'm commenting with a couple of suggestions here so you have a list to come back to

Altar of Bone - Use it to either sacrifice or find rector. Finding rector doesn't need explaining but as a sac outlet it will be able to find spellseeker which will let you merchant scroll for dig through time and guarantee the combo kill

Recruiter of the Guard - A bit wonky but it finds rector and other bears. Decent if you're trying to up your count. Also works as part of the combo kill by finding spellseeker and initiating the chain I posted above.

Manifold Insights - We talked about this one but the main premise is that you're digging 10 and that at least a few of the hits are going to be lands. The rest will be some combination of gas or semi live draws. The worst thing your opponents will give you are dorks/ bad ramp/ or redundant looters but you only have 10 combined of all those effects in the deck so the chances are pretty low that you end up getting a grip or 3 after this. Odds are in your favor. I don't think we want this in stuff like circu but when it comes to UW, Winterblast was right again.

Intuition - Manifold Insights is basically a worse copy of this effect. Works with seasons past, rector recur, and pretty much every combo you have access to. Plus it's an instant.

The last thing to consider is the dredge stuff in conjunction with Replenish and Open the Vaults . The real issue would be one of can you get enough pieces to the yard and to be honest I'm not sure. You get some neat tech with all the bant land recur, stuff like Riftstone Portal , and potentially things like Wonder which will act as evasion for rafiq and your draw dorks. Maybe these would even be able to justify something like Survival of the Fittest coming back but it just depends on how you can play with the grave. Lands, enchantments, and artifacts are all easy and you even have some play with recurring instants and sorceries but getting creatures back is much more difficult. This paragraph is more food for thought than recommendations though as it would be near impossible to build a shell with all this without finding an entomb type effect or some sort of massive miller outside of the deck's looters or something insane like Hermit Druid or breakfast combo.

A few options you have that could help are: Auriok Steelshaper , Oreskos Explorer and Shalai, Voice of Plenty . They aren't cats but, they would have good synergy with your overall deck construction.

Another great choice for a tribal deck is Coat of Arms .

It never hurts to have more creature tutors--especially in a tribal deck. A few you might consider are: Recruiter of the Guard , Eladamri's Call , Enlightened Tutor , Idyllic Tutor , Altar of Bone , Green Sun's Zenith , Sylvan Tutor and Summoner's Pact .

If you want to go faster you'll need to get more lands out fast and/or mana rocks. That's where green comes in. White has a few spells like Land Tax , Tithe and Oreskos Explorer but, green has stuff like: Burgeoning , Carpet of Flowers , Exploration Utopia Sprawl , Wild Growth , Land Grant , Crop Rotation , Sylvan Scrying , Azusa, Lost but Seeking , Birds of Paradise and Bloom Tender .

Other options for going faster are: Chrome Mox , Grim Monolith , Mana Crypt , Mana Vault , Mox Amber , Mox Diamond and Mox Opal .

Its also not a bad idea to toss in a few more instant-speed removal spells such as: Swords to Plowshares , Wear Away , Sundering Growth , Nature's Claim , Naturalize , Natural State , Dispatch , Disenchant , Afterlife , Beast Within , Crib Swap and Oblation .

Maybe Altar of Bone? It's another tutor...or a pet card that now has no place for me Demonic Consultation.

PookandPie Both good suggestions that I plan on adding to the deck eventually. It’s my newest deck so I’m still play testing and acquiring cards. Mostly fetches, duals, tutors, and fast mana. Both of those are great outlets though. Currently I’ve got High Market and Altar of Bone in as budget fill ins. Thanks for checking it out though!

Im counting 85 cards listed so far. Of this only 10 are lands and if you divert all open 15 slots to lands then youll sit at 25 lands which is not enough.

You are also missing mana rocks better suited to ramping like the Signets. Golgari Signet, Orzhov Signet, Selesnya Signet are a must. Druidic Satchel, commanders sphere, sarpadian empires, vol. vii are all cards Id consider cutting for the signets.

Also, Id consider adding Life and Limb and Terra Eternal. This will secure mana, and an indestructible army on the cheap. Mirari's Wake also will aid you in mana ramp and enhancing your creatures. Goes well with the above mentioned.Land Tax could help at the beginning and also at late game if Terra is destroyed and you lands are board wiped. There are plenty of grave recursion options to belting back lands if this is a worry.

Doubling Season is greatly needed for this deck.

Aura Shards is a must.

Dueling Grounds could also aid you if combined with Sublime Archangel due to tour token generation.

Craterhoof Behemoth is an amazing finisher for this deck.

Eladamri's Call, Green Sun's Zenith, Altar of Bone are great tutors.

There is a lot more Id do to this design but Ill stop here for now.

Hello, thanks for the upvote and comment on my deck! Imperial Seal is not required at all, your deck will still function excellently without one. In fact, I don't find myself playing my deck very often because of how linear it is. That's my biggest complaint about the deck actually, although it's a complicated combo, it always wins in the same way (usually starting with Protean Hulk). It's sort of like playing Ad Nauseam in Modern. Oh well.

Anyways, here's my suggestions for your next upgrades: Eternal Witness, Birthing Pod, Dance of the Dead (I like the enchantment reanimate spells because of the interaction with Leonin Relic-Warder), Life/Death, and maybe a Journey to Eternity  Flip. If you get a Birthing Pod, Felidar Guardian becomes amazing, allowing you to turn any 3-drop into a 5-drop. Recruiter of the Guard is great at finding combo pieces and not too pricey. Altar of Bone and Eldritch Evolution are great ways to add consistency to your combo as well.

For cuts, I would suggest Will-o'-the-Wisp, Angel of Glory's Rise, and maybe Utopia Sprawl (looks like you sometimes won't have a forest when you want to cast this). I think Selvala and Yahenni are OK for now, but I like Caustic Caterpillar more than Qasali Pridemage. I also think some of the above suggestions are better than Breath of Life, Zombify and Reclaim.

One more thing, I like the idea of Entomb in this deck (yours and mine), mostly because having a Blood Artist in the 'yard is nearly always better than having it in the deck. I think I will add it to my list, so I appreciate that. I'll subscribe to your deck and try to keep up with any changes, and remember that my suggestions are just a quick takes and you always have the right idea for what will work best in your deck!
