Apparently there was a leak, so wizards put out the release notes for the set early - link to the notes on bottom of linked article
Please discuss
Interesting set, with lots of fun/interesting commander cards.
Since this was actually released by wizards, it is no longer considered a leak.
With her and Weatherlight you should have a steady stream of Artifacts that you can keep casting.
As for how they survived, it's Magic!
😉
She has a damn purse wrapped around her waist.
Do you know how on point that is, for a female?
I want that purse!

As always happens with Artifact-heavy sets, all my favourite cards will rotate out soon.
Just like with Origins.
Until then ...
Draw city.

To answer your question:
Jhoira was once stranded on an island containing a time rift, and survived by drinking water that had been affected by the rift. This greatly slowed her aging.
For Teferi, you have to understand a bit about the old Planeswalkers. Prior to the Mending, Planeswalkers were essentially gods, able to reshape reality around them. Teferi was one of the most powerful from among them. He lost his Planeswalker spark to help seal a time rift, though it appears he will regain it (though I would assume in a lesser form). It has been 60 years since the Mending, which is why he looks old on the reprint of Opt.
Karn is an ancient golem, and also belongs to the old generation of neigh-immortal planeswalkers who subsequently lost their spark.

Jhoira became immortal back during planar chaos. She drank some water that was affected by the temporal disaster and it slowed her aging to a point of near immortality.
Jodah was hiding from goblins back before the ice age and hid in a fountain that was apparently the fountain of youth giving him near immortality as well... likely these waters were also affected by a temporal abnormality.
Squee was granted immortality by ertai and crovax so that they could repeatedly kill him over and over again.
Keep in mind too that this is only 60 or so years after the events that took place on Dominaria originally so its likely some characters like Jaya Ballard are still alive but much older. However I think that covers the immortals we have seen so far.

"Squee was granted immortality by ertai and crovax so that they could repeatedly kill him over and over again."
That is revoltingly sad.
April 3, 2018 9:15 a.m.
Actually, it was Yawgmoth wwho made Squee immortal and the Evincar Crovax was very happy about it. The card Phyrexian Tyranny's flavor text describes Squee's situation very well.
April 3, 2018 10 a.m.
Squee is about the sound I am making at the moment, getting Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain to actually CREW the Weatherlight.
All is forgiven, Wizards.

We got some cool new spoils:
They all look like particular strong EDH cards. Shalai might even be strong in Standard.
We also got some art for already spoiled cards:

Oops forgot this one:
I know I sound like a broken record, but man I love the artwork in this set. So far all four of the legendary sorcery's art have been on point. Can't wait to see what my boy Kamahl has in store.
April 3, 2018 11:40 a.m.
When will they ever learn that Serra Angel is supposed to be left-handed?
April 3, 2018 11:43 a.m.
LittleBlueHero says... #14
Why does Shalai have what appears to be a demon's tail?
April 3, 2018 12:34 p.m.
Thanks for all the information on the story :) I'm glad they decided to keep these characters around, rather than starting over, even if it requires some creative licence.
April 3, 2018 12:38 p.m.
Does everyone realise that, for once and for all, we now know that Skysovereign, Consul Flagship is NOT the pseudo Weatherlight?
Also ... Skysovereign, Consul Flagship is still one of the dumbest Magic card names of all time.

This is some of the best art Angels have gotten in a long time... I couldn't be happier.
April 3, 2018 5:58 p.m.
Is it bad that I fancy Jaya Ballard in the command zone for an EDH deck rather than most of the other options? I mean, I like the options, but I'm really drawn to Jaya's new card for some reason.

The artwork on Yawgmoth's vile offering is awesome, but I notice that Yawgmoth himself does not appear in it, which makes me wish to ask: has Yawgmoth himself ever appeared in any artwork in this game, or has WotC deliberately kept his appearance mysterious and unknown?
Shalai is very awesome, as well, and I would very much like to put her in any EDH of mine that supports her colors, but I am not certain if I can remove any cards to make room for her.
April 3, 2018 8:41 p.m.
DemonDragonJ: I read a comment that said the audience in Phyrexian Arena was Yawgmoth, being able to shift his form. Idk, tbh. Also, idk why everyone's hyped up over Shalai. She's simply yet another Selesnya Tokens general who just happens to protect your other stuff.
April 3, 2018 8:51 p.m.
Phaetion: Because hexproofing yourself plus your team for 4 CMC as a 3/4 flying is very powerful. the activated Gavony Township is just gravy. It is versatile and only has one W, which is also important to note. For standard, I can admit, I don't play, but will find a use. In Modern, you could have a Sigarda, Heron's Grace that isn't restricted by a specific tribe. It can go it Elves and other decks as a finisher. In EDH/Brawl: works as a commander or in the 99. It will be used by me, for sure.
April 3, 2018 10:15 p.m.
Commander is probably the format it will work best in, as you can keep casting it.
In Standard you can just remove it so easily.
It will be like Prowling Serpopard, which looked good on paper, but didn't work that well irl.

Accent-Accord is getting Lyra Dawnbringer! Me so happy!
April 4, 2018 5:11 a.m.
I guess Shalai isn't for me. I already have a go-wide deck, and the theme of that deck goes against her inclusion in the 99 (It's cat tribal with a token sub-theme. Non-cats are at a premium in there).

Hi_diddly_ho_neighbor says... #27
whistles man Lyra has great artwork.
I think I found an auto include in my Jolrael, Empress of Beasts deck:
Sadly, Darigaaz looks terrible (art wise) and with all of the exile effects in standard, probably won't make much of a splash.
Speaking of exile effects:
Not sure how I missed Muldrotha, but good-god she is a pushed commander

Seal Away is an interesting card. I do like exile effects and a perfect ambush vs attackers.
But; vs. Green stompy decks; especially if they get T2 Steel Leaf Champion, I can almost guarantee they will have Blossoming Defense waiting

AgentGreen and don't forget about Admiral's Order.
Wow! I can definitely get behind all of these lands. There isn't a single bad one amongst them. The red and green ones will be busted in EDH.
Gerrard:
Urza:
Gerrard vs. Urza in the Phyrexian arena (I think):
Karona:
not sure maybe Eladramri?
April 4, 2018 12:36 p.m.
LittleBlueHero says... #31
So who are the memorials... the red one is obviously Karona, False God and the green one looks like Eladamri, Lord of Leaves. the rest I can't picture at the moment
April 4, 2018 1:09 p.m.
Hi_diddly_ho_neighbor says... #32
White: Gerrard, Blue: Urza, Black: I think it is Urza vs. Gerrard, Red: Karona, Green: dunno, but I think its Eladamri.
Agent_Fire, depends on the format I think. In EDH the red is probably the strongest.
April 4, 2018 1:14 p.m.
White is Gerrard Capashen (compare to Master of Arms and Triumph of Gerrard).
Blue is Urza--the sculpture in the background is wearing his traditional gorget.
Not too sure on the black one off the top of my head.
Frankly, I think they are all incredibly mediocre cards. Not only do they enter tapped, but you're paying an awful lot for what you get.
Red: 6 Mana (since you're also tapping the land itself) and loss of one of your lands to destroy an enemy land.
Green: 4 mana and loss of a land for a very limited tutor.
Blue: 6 mana and loss of a land for 2 cards?
White: 5 mana and loss of a land for 2 vanila 1/1s. Even though they are in decent tribe, that still is terrible.
Black: 4 mana for returning something to your hand is pretty reasonable, but it also puts you back a land and cannot be used the turn you play it. Great ability--too many drawbacks.
Edit: Just realized the Black land depicts Urza from Mind Over Matter (the staff is the same).
April 4, 2018 1:21 p.m. Edited.
Can't see myself using any of these over the HOU lands like Ifnir Deadlands.
April 4, 2018 1:33 p.m.
The blue, black, and green ones might be okay in Limited. I agree that they're too slow and expensive for anything past that.
April 4, 2018 1:52 p.m.
The article states:
: Gerrard
: Urza
: Gerrard and Urza (Martyrs' Tomb, but defaced because of the Cabal. How I want to kill them...)
: Karona
: Eladamri
April 4, 2018 3:36 p.m.
I am worried about the amount of instant speed and/or cheap removal that white has in standard with Dominaria's release. I think there will be some fairly oppressive control decks, as if Second Sun wasn't tedious enough already.
April 4, 2018 3:45 p.m.
is getting a LOT of Angel love, too.
It's gonna be a tough colour to beat.

They've done ladies and gentlemen. WoTC is breaking the fourth wall:
Two-Headed Giant
Creature - Giant Warrior (Rare)
Whenver Two-Headed Giant attacks, flip two coins. If both are heads, Two-Headed Giant gains double strike until end of turn. If both are tails, Two-Headed Giant gains menace until end of turn.
4/4
April 4, 2018 7:23 p.m.
I'm surprised that Helm of the Host triggers at the beginning of combat, before attackers are declared, as opposed to the more traditional creating a tapped and attacking token. There's a large number of legendary creatures this has synergy with--many of which are in white and thus have access to Stonehewer Giant and Stoneforge Mystic.
Aurelia, of course, will be best with this equipment. But I can't help but think Neheb, the Eternal might be a bit fun, though the logical part of me says "except you're paying 9 mana to win more."
April 5, 2018 9:02 a.m.
Additionally, more surprisingly, the token is not exiled at the turn. It stays. This is a colorless Progenitor Mimic that can make copies of legendaries and can change what it is making copies of.

Of course the setup cost is substantial and you're asking to get blown out, but yeah, that is a sweet card! Excited to see the gameplay it produces :)

So Teferi's Oath is in play now, and I am strongly considering the move to U/W Control.

Yeah it's god-tier art work :)
I thought 4 was a little expensive until I realised you can play 0 and 1 cost artifacts to draw cards :)
I've been wondering, what is the short explanation of how she and others are still alive after 'a millennium'? Did they fall into some kind of time stasis or something?
