Gonti's Aether Heart Discussion

Reznorboy on Hit me Belbe one more time | Belbe EDH

So, I posted this comment on a different Belbe, Corrupted Observer deck, sue me.

However, that person completely ignored me (probably thought I was crazy (was probably partially correct)), so I'm reposting this in case you decide to listen.

I have never tested what you are about to read.

Belbe triggers during each postcombat main phase, so it would make sense that she would be better if you had more of such.

There are 3 cards in Green/Black which are able to do that - by providing extra turns - Ugin's Nexus, Temporal Extortion, and Seedtime.

Personally, I would simply disregard Temporal Extortion, because I think it's bad.

The other two - however - can get interesting.

Since those 2 cards are so applicable and useful - and few in numbers - you'll want tutors. (Trust me, I build all my decks to be even more budget than this and I use tutors - there's a way.)

So, assuming you play basically all of the budget tutors, you can tutor for a card such as Holistic Wisdom or Forbidden Crypt. This allows you to get your tutors BACK to go tutor even MORE. (You'll need to hit Forbidden Crypt with a Krosan Grip or something to avoid losing, don't worry, you can tutor for it).

So, I would cut all of the Eldrazi and big swingers and etc. for only cards that fit into one of these categories - 1. Provide Mana 2. Drain opponents' life 3. Draw cards 4. Tutor 5. Combo pieces

I would keep the life draining ratio about where its at, maybe a little less. I would keep removal to a minimum because it will only prevent you from losing in a situation where the opponent has no backup, when you could instead just win.

Basically, under my vision, the deck would be almost entirely draw spells, mana rocks, tutors, and then the exceptions.

The way you would win in this deck, is instead of swinging with Eldrazi, creating a combo by playing Ugin's Nexus, blowing it up with a Krosan Grip, playing Mirror of Fate and using it on the Ugin's Nexus, then Restock to get back Mirror of Fate and the Krosan Grip, and then repeating that with Mirror of Fate putting back Restock, and making opponents lose life during each of our infinite turns to win.

Sultai: I don't see Red as all that good with . While white does add some stuff, but I want to limit it a bit. I debated making it like Atraxa, Praetors' Voice in color.

Based on Gonti's Aether Heart:

Gonti, Lord of Aether

Legendary Creature - Aetherborn Wizard

Whenever a creature leaves the battlefield, you may pay , if you do, you get and you may look at the top card of your library, if it is a land, you may reveal it and put it into your hand, otherwise scry 1.

: Gonti, Lord of Aether gains Menace, Flying, and Deathtouch until end of turn.

, Sacrifice a creature: Untap target permanent, Scry 2.

Value/Combo type, a la Samut, Voice of Dissent.

Not really voltron, the second ability is more for defense, but the menace is there for a voltron aspect, if that's desired.

Can I see a nonlegendary rare/mythic creature a la Dream Trawler? (not necessarily anything in common other than power level).

Gypocalypse on Yarok on energy

Love the idea of getting loads of energy from your ETB's and Yarok but I'm not seeing enough good places to actually spend that energy. Now I know they are commons but you might want to consider adding in Aether Herder , Aether Poisoner and Aether Swooper . While they may not be power houses on their own they creation of servors does mean you could very quickly get an army of servo artifacts going which would also daisy chain in with some of the other cards you have, like Decoction Module and Gonti's Aether Heart . Oh man and then it would also trigger with Fabrication Module so all those 1/1 can get pumped up as well. I hope that helps to give you an alternative tactic.

becks16 on Proliferate Deck (Just an idea)

Potentially cheaper (mana-wise) to Magistrate's Scepter, Gonti's Aether Heart (energy counters can be proliferated). If you did that however, you may want to reevaluate some of the deck to have more energy

triproberts12 on Should i go Grixis or …

One thing you could do, if you don't want to flesh out a full 4-5 color manabase, is you could play Ramos, Dragon Engine as your commander. You can build the deck Grixis, and just splash for Smothering Tithe and Vraska, Relic Seeker . The nice thing about Treasure and Gold being your theme is you don't need to play any rocks or lands in white or green to splash. Ramos is even an artifact, in case you want to run an artifact theme with stuff like Contraband Kingpin , Daretti, Scrap Savant , Gonti's Aether Heart , etc.

Hi Have you tried Gonti's Aether Heart I know its no Time Sieve and I know it is also a cmc 6 artifact (which you are rightly not keen on) but a 6 mana extra turn can be very potent (i assume you can make 3 artifacts at some point :P).

I normally saved it to do something silly like crank Darreti up quickly for his ult or something silly with mirror works. I also found it was great for interrupting people who wanted to go off with extra turns like a melek deck (taking an extra turn between their first and second and try to disrupt them enough with a winters orb or something {note. not recommending winters orb due to the description})

I've always wanted to build a Mono Black deck and I'm in love with the way this deck looks. I see you also built a Black/White deck as well, which one did you end up liking more for Gonti? Also, did you ever have a version which played Gonti's Aether Heart? I'm sure its not super consistent, but I really like the flavor of it.
