How Much would YOU pay for this collection?

This is the collection:http://store.tcgplayer.com/collection/view/39748.
I am looking at the collection and the guy is giving me the first asking price.
I wouldn't buy that collection for anything remotely close to the value that's listed. The vast majority of cards are under $10. You'll end up with a ton of bulk crap that you probably won't be able to sell off. And there really aren't that many terrific "value" cards to make up for the hassle of dealing with everything else.

Agreed. You'd be getting a few valuable cards, but the vast majority of it is unneeded bulk and you'd be spending waaaaayyyyyyyy too much money.

I would offer the total near tcglow of the cards that are around 8-10ish and try and get the rest as throw in. Wouldn't phrase it like that, obviously, haha.

There's too much crap in there to justify trying to haggle down the price. If you want any of the cards, just buy singles. Unless you're making a cube or an EDH box or something that requires such an odd mix of cards, or really enjoy e-haggling, don't buy it.

I would total cards that are worth 5 or more at mid, then half that amonut. Depending on size of collection and what i can spend I might cut the cards off at $10 or more. So using that, the plus $10 is about 1400, so $700. But with the couple of high value cards, they prob wont go for that.

$2000 starting offer. This would be good if you're trying to get a respectable collection for opening a shop, but there's otherwise too much junk for one person to want/need.
March 15, 2015 11:18 p.m.
Theres not enough there to offer $2000, as most stores offer bout 1/2 of mid of cards they need/know they can move then bulk the rest for .05 to .10 each. I would offer $1000 if u can use enough of the cards to justify that amont.

@zandl That's something I didn't think of. If you are, in fact opening a shop, then by all means barter away.

I'd personally go for around $1000, but I also wouldn't drop that kind of money on a bunch of random cards.

I agree with pskinn01 though looking at it, and I think that 700 might be a little high for an offer. The price it shows him will make it seem like you are offering an unfair price if the dude is sitting there thinking this collection is worth over 7 grand.
Honestly, if I had the money, I think 500 would be a price I would feel comfortable. I mean there are some nice cards, but it is 500 dollars you would be offering. There better be some chase stuff.
I would ask him what ballpark he is thinking on price. If he is looking for around 2500, just steer clear. If he is thinking 1200-1500 see if you can work with him to get to 5-700. I have never purchased a collection before, just telling you what I would do.

If this was an in person trade, I'd pay about $200 for that, after skimming through it for a quick bit. there's like 4 money cards in there. I wouldn't pay anything over $500 cash for this knowing the full contents. If your seller won't let it go for around that price, tell him to piece it out and sell it on his own if he wants full value.

Also, I buy collections for a living. Not sure if that's relevant to you personally, but as someone who does this, that would be what I would do.

Is he asking for $2290? Because that is a complete rip-off. If you do want to buy the collection, negotiate the price down to at least less than $1000.

The only things that are of note are:
- Gaea's Cradle
- Wasteland
- City of Traitors
- Show and Tell
- Sneak Attack
- Sliver Queen
- Serra's Sanctum
- Gwendlyn Di Corci
- Grim Monolith
- Tolarian Academy
- Volrath's Stronghold
- Rofellos, Llanowar Emissary
- Voice of Resurgence
- Vindicate
- Containment Priest
- Counterbalance
- Chain Lightning
- Demonic Tutor
- Humility
- Land Tax
- Defense of the Heart
- Palinchron
- Recurring Nightmare
- Keranos, God of Storms
- Mutavault
- Pendelhaven
- No Mercy
...which totals to around $900 on TCG mid. The rest is either still in print, soon to be reprinted, bulk, or not something you could otherwise move very easily. Regardless, it doesn't justify the extra $1,100. I'm not even sure if the rest justifies $100.
If you can get him to go to around $900 for the above cards, I'd say go for it if he throws in the rest (or pieces of it). Otherwise, I'd just pass on it.

Yea, the $1k mark sounds pretty generous considering you are the one that will being doing all the work to make the profit. When I've bought collections anything under $3 is bulk rate b/c it's going to take lots of time/effort to sift through it and sending off the rest to a buylist/bulk anyways. Anything over $5 You can try and move yourself, but then you have to sort it, condition it etc. Which is a huge hassle that you are working for, not the seller. If he wants to put that effort in to get his actual value for the collection that's fine, but if he wants a quick and easy sell then he needs to price it as such.

Sorry to double post, but after looking at it again, who wants 17 Altar of the Brood? Or 16 copies of Grim Haruspex? That looks like he's trying to out a failed spec and recoup some of his losses. I definitely wouldn't give him more than the $900-$1k like everyone else has mentioned. Probably closer to the $800 range after looking at it.

I would be very curious as to what you think of all this, and if you got it.
March 16, 2015 11:16 p.m.
Without seeing the cards, I would offer $892.77
May seem like a very specific number, but I have a specific formula I follow when on-mass.
March 17, 2015 7:58 a.m.
If you're wondering, my formula is 60% of the low value for cards $4.00+
If I could see and verify the cards are in Mint/Near Mint, I may sometimes go as high as 70% of the mid... mid on that site is 'high' for everywhere else.
The high on that list is 'stupid-high', and should be ignored. - $389 for Gaea's Cradle is normal for a Judge promo, but the site should differentiate.

this would be decent if you were planning to play a ton of commander. My main problem with it is there are too many just singles and not enough playsets
