Tergrid Question

Deck Help forum

I want to run Tergrid, God of Fright  Flip when it comes out on the 5th with the new set as a commander. Depending on the answer I might change my mind.

It says

"Menace, Whenever an opponent sacrifices a non-token permanent or discards a permanent card, you may put that card from a graveyard onto the battlefield under your control."

Is the a passive skill that can used from the command zone, or does it have to be on the battlefield?

It has to be on the field

So generally speaking, unless a card is one of the select few with the Eminence Keyword like The Ur-Dragon (or cards like Oloro, Ageless Ascetic that specifically say "in the command zone"), their abilities will only activate if they're on the battlefield.

Yes, Tegrid must be on the battlefield for the ability to be triggered.

UsagiRaindrop yeah you'll want to run rocks ranging from Charcoal Diamond to Arcane Signet , cantrips like Dark Ritual , and if you can afford it you should use Cabal Coffers .

Also if you don't already have it lined up Waste Not is an absolute MUST in this sort of deck.

Yeah, Sol ring is in there Charcoal and Arcane is in it. I have Replicating Ring , Commander's Sphere Spectral Searchlight Nyx Lotus Skyclave Relic . I will put Dark Ritual and waste not in it, but might have to wait on cabal coffer.

Would it be worth it to put cards in there like Demonic Tutor ?

Tutors are always a good thing in a deck that has any sort of strategy to focus on. So yes, I would run demonic, and if you can afford it Vampiric Tutor , Diabolic Intent , Grim Tutor , and if you want you can go with the budget Diabolic Tutor .

For other ramp options, consider Extraplanar Lens (just run snow swamps), Jet Medallion , and if you've got token producing and sacrificing as a theme Phyrexian Altar / Ashnod's Altar .

Feel free to post a link to you list in here and I will look too. We don't want you to go too overboard on the ramp etc, just make sure you have a good mix of the ramp that seems to work best for you. (Let me know how focused you want this deck to be etc.)

This commander needs no help, but Dark Deal would be really sick with it.

I'm going to play her in the 99 of my Rankle, Master of Pranks deck. She'll be less threatening if she isn't looming over the battlefield from the command zone, and Rankle has some excellent synergies with her.

Question. If she is sacrificed at the same time as other permanents that my opponent controls, such as with Smallpox does she still see those other sacrifices and trigger or not?

Ash3n She does. Just like how Blood Artist will trigger off every creature after Wrath of God is cast, even when the Artist doesn't survive the Wrath, every permanent simultaneously sacrificed with Tergrid, God of Fright  Flip will put one of her triggers on the stack.

I've built a budget EDH deck around Tergrid if you'd like to check it out for ideas on some cards you might want to run. Also open to suggestions as well. God that Betrays
