I really love wasps, and I want to play Hornet Queen as quickly as possible. This deck can ramp up a bunch of mana pretty quickly, then you play big bugs and everyone cheers, we weep tears of joy when we see a big bug!!!!!

There are a number of wasps in this deck. It should be noted that I define "wasp" as any non-sawfly hymenopteran insect. As such, bees and ants are defined as wasps (because they are, paraphyly is STUPID).

Hornet Queen is our leading lady. Or rather, the big finale. Getting her out creates a huge advantage.

Ant Queen is the second royal member of this deck. She makes a bunch of tokens!

Hornet Nest gives us defense. Noone wants to whack this thing.

Foundry Hornet is a bit of a gimmicky one, but it can pair with Sporocyst and Vorapede. She might just wipe out an entire army of small guys!

Spelling Bee is a funny card that lets us draw cards. She also makes us memorize how to spell every single word on every single one of our cards.

Grist, the Hunger Tide is a star who's abilities are invaluable! Everything she does is amazing!! The Magic storyline should revolve around you...

Aristotle couldn't have been that wise if he considered wasps to be lacking in divinity. But we need some help to call forth these holy hymenopterans!

These guys will do just that!

Birds of Paradise gives you mana of any color you desire! Helps us get out Grist, the Hunger Tide on turn 2! Who knew birds got along with wasps, let alone anything else in this game.

Elvish Mystic makes more mana, useful for general ramp and also can help get out Grist turn 2 in conjunction with our dual lands. He's always doing crazy hand motions.

Sporocyst is a strange bug-like growth that fetches some lands, which is why there is a single Swamp in the deck. After that, it'll serve as a nice blocker for us! Grows massive when paired with its friend, Karametra's Acolyte.

Somberwald Sage makes three mana of any color you desire (so talented!!), but only for creatures. Thankfully, that's all we have!

Karametra's Acolyte can produce huge amounts of mana if joined by any of the bigger bugs. She's best friends with Sporocyst.

This started out very much as a simple mono-green deck with some rudimentary ramp stuff. Over time I feel I've optimized this decklist and trimmed and tweaked it to my personal liking. I've added a bit of black mana entirely in order to add Grist, the Hunger Tide, since this deck can get her out turn 2, her abilities are extremely potent and she is my favorite Planeswalker (plus, she is a wasp-like creature, so she fits in nicely with the theme I'm going for here).

As for future tweaking, I'd love if I could replace all the non-insects with insect creatures, but unfortunately there arn't any that really lend themselves to ramp. If only there was an insect that did something like Birds of Paradise or Elvish Mystic, even Lotus Cobra. If only they stopped printing a bunch of stupid human guys all the time and made what people REALLY love!! Seriously there's like three elves that all do the same thing, why can't there be a fly or a cicada you tap to add ??? Either way, for now, those boring guys will serve the wasp.

That aside, I'm interested in adding Natural Order, since it'll allow a turn 2 Grist AND a turn 3 Hornet Queen or Giant Adephage... unfortunately it's one of the more price-y cards, so... maybe later.

Also I can't believe I havn't heard of Ignoble Hierarch until real recently. It's basically just a straight upgrade from Elvish Mystic. That's another one I'm gonna need to get my tarsi on.

It also occured to me to add Xira, the Golden Sting, since she's a pretty awesome wasp lady with a lovely ability that mimics what real parasitoid wasps do. I've always been aware of this card, but kept thinking "well she requires , so how would I play her?" But then I realized that Birds of Paradise, Ignoble Hierarch, Somberwald Sage and Sporocyst (coupled with a single Mountain) can easily ensure her summoning! Those are enough options to permit a single red symbol in this deck, I believe.

One more thing I'm considering is Blex, Vexing Pest  . Not really that thematically appropriate, but with all the insects it does help out quite nicely. There's very few cards that directly interact with insects as a creature type, and Blex is definitely one of the most useful ones.

It'll be tough fitting all this stuff in one deck, but I'm dedicated to making the ultimate wasp deck!!
