That puts it into my hand, I think I’d rather run Expedition Map at that point, but I never considered this card.

It is interesting that it can cantrip itself though, if I’m not looking for a land. Thanks for the suggestion, but not quite what I’m looking for. I always find myself disappointed drawing something like that, and the amount of times I’d want to find it over amulet just don’t justify inclusion in my book.

Hmm, weirdest thought I could come up with was coincidental ramp cards, which actually led to me going down a weird path. Things like Fake Your Own Death, Warping Wail, and Fable of the Mirror-Breaker  Flip seem to fit the idea of what I want for the slot... Fake Your Own Death being a decent option of anti-removal, but relies on having some kind of creature. Warping Wail has 2 other modes that allow it to trade (probably for profit), and the "ramp" mode is more coincidental. Fable of the Mirror-Breaker  Flip is definitely the most powerful overall, but I'm not sure if it is fast enough, as a do nothing 3 CMC the turn it is played for the most part.

Still not sold on anything; this last slot has been so hard to come up with a good card for. I've tried making it a land, a pay off card, a small ramp thing, and a mid-range type of card, with the mid-range card feeling the most correct as far as mana curve. Also, the "function" the deck struggles the most with is having good openers where you can count to 6 mana quick, and not drawing into threats later sometimes.

So I'd really like to find a card ~3 CMC that ramps or can be a versatile threat (Eladamri's Call was a good example of what I want for the slot before I cut white, since I could tutor for a 1 CMC ramp at 3 CMC, or find a Primeval Titan later in the game).

I think the newly spoiled "Awaken the Woods" is what I've been waiting for, for the last slot!

Sorcery
Create X 1/1 green Forest Dryad land creature tokens.

That is flexible, making a swarm late game, or just ramp early to mid game. I really like the card in theory for the last slot. It basically lets me find x Dryad Arbor, which sounds pretty incredible for a deck where most people run spot removal instead of wipes against us.

Great synergy with the lines already in the deck (Dryad and Scapeshift - where lands matter), and a versatile casting cost, I'm super excited, might be overhyping it though, time will tell.

Yeah that card looks awesome, I wish I could somehow use it in my Collected Company deck haha. This whole set is filled with cards like that, where I keep thinking I'm looking at something brand new that's actually good that'll finally lead to some new deck building. This card I just want to put in every green deck haha

Hmm a turn 3 Dryad Arbor is not nearly as good as an Elvish Reclaimer or Arboreal Grazer. It does get significantly better as turns go on, but at that point a better threat may be better.

The landfall enabling and synergy with increasing land count for Dryad of the Ilysian Grove and Scapeshift may be enough for it to be a decent lategame threat, but objectively it’s kind of meh early.

Still going to test, but it’s not as good as a tutor like Eladamri's Call was. Diabolic Intent also looks like something to test for that reason, but I don’t really like cards that rely on a resource I can’t guarantee (in this case having a creature to pitch and mana). I’d be very hard pressed to play this particular tutor t2.

I reverted back to Courser of Kruphix which competes very closely with Tireless Tracker for the same slot (I can never justify running both or multiple copies, it’s too clunky).

Being able to dig through your deck by playing lands synergizes well with a lot of strategies the deck has, and the 2/4 body is much preferred over the 3/2 initially.

The coincidental life gain and solid initial body help against aggro decks, while the card advantage and growing body (plus not broadcasting free info) are positioned better in more control oriented meta. Both are decent enough options, I just feel positioned well enough against control oriented decks already.

I’ll continue testing some of the newer cards, but initial play through weren’t as impressive as I was hoping.

I've added a specific rules section, for some of the more common issues/questions that come up when piloting the deck.

I'm thinking maybe layering with Dryad of the Ilysian Grove and playing Vesuva untapped as nothing (with Dryad's effect to produce mana) could be mentioned as well, but I'll add those in later.

Let me know if there's anything else that anyone can think of that could merit inclusion there, or any other section that needs updating. I just gave the description a once-over for the current 75, I believe it is up to date now.

Green Sun's Twilight seems pretty broken. It almost seems to be at the emergency ban power level, so I'm surprised it is being printed into standard. You do have to build your deck around such a card, but getting to 6 in green seems to be a little too easy for the power level of this card, in my humble opinion.

Not saying it will be slotted into every green deck, but decks that have big payoff cards and can slot it in, probably will.

Why Turn the Earth over Gaea's Blessing? Just thinking of the mill match-up

January 6, 2023 12:40 a.m.

nbarry223 says... #10

Turn the Earth is a lot better against graveyard based decks, while being basically just as effective against mill (you can target your own Endurance at end of their turn). It is significantly better than most artifact/enchantment based gravehate, since it is more resilient to their anti-hate.

January 6, 2023 12:51 a.m.

Oh thats interesting, never thought about it like that. So it would be my version of Can't Stay Away on Endurance?

January 6, 2023 12:53 a.m.

nbarry223 says... #12

Yes, very similar, except since you draw into it, you can still evoke and stack them so it shuffles into the deck after sacrificing itself. It's also instant speed, so you can even use it in response to something like Surgical Extraction but not Extirpate of course, so that's still more coincidental than anything.

Also worth noting is that Summoner's Pact is essentially more copies of endurance that can't be targeted when milled, so that's why I am light on the copies of Endurance in the first place, more copies means it is easier for them to mill into it and therefore remove it, which is a little counter-intuitive.

Black Sun's Twilight also looks playable in here. There are a few other interesting looking cards spoiled, but so far only the green/black twilight's look playable in here.

Not quite sure how I missed this when it was first spoiled, but The Mycosynth Gardens seems to be an auto-include of some kind (I am not sold on it being 4 copies since it is a colorless source, and I need untapped green sources).

The Mycosynth Gardens

Land - Sphere : Add .

, : Add one mana of any color.

, : The Mycosynth Gardens becomes a copy of target nontoken artifact you control with mana value .

As the Invasion Tree grew, its branches pierced through the world's silent core.

This would allow some more turn 2/3 lines, and be a fetchable second copy of Amulet of Vigor with Elvish Reclaimer or Primeval Titan. However, since it is a colorless source, I have to be careful not to cut too many untapped green sources for it.

so I am currently thinking:

-1 Lair of the Hydra
-1 Fae of Wishes
+2 The Mycosynth Gardens

Not really sure if there's any other cuts I want to make for it, but feel free to look at my Card Choices > Weakest Cards section if anyone wants to make arguments for any further cuts.

I'll be going with Tyrranax Rex instead of Carnage Tyrant probably. This seems so much better since it has haste and toxic (pseudo answer to "infinite" lifegain). Instead of waiting a turn to attack with Carnage Tyrant, you just pay one more and swing right away. This seems like a net positive for a slightly worse "hexproof"

I’ve found explore to be a very underwhelming card personally.

Actually thinking third reclaimer and cutting something for it (maybe a grazer or maybe something else) since it is such an all star with the new land.

First time I’m excited for a new set in a while, almost makes up for all the poor decisions that have been made recently by Hasbro which made me question the future of mtg.

Reclaimer is good but it has to sit a whole turn which is why its been replaced with explore. Any deck with removal will kill this before its useful

I decided to go for more of a consistency route than an explosive glass cannon route with the new The Mycosynth Gardens card. It already puts us behind on lands and is a colorless source for all intents and purposes, so it opens us up a lot to counter-play if relied on too heavily, while not doing much without already having an Amulet of Vigor.

I initially thought it was a much more powerful card than it turned out to be through playtesting. However, the real sleeper was Tyrranax Rex which I initially thought was just a replacement for something like Carnage Tyrant if deciding to use it in the sideboard. After making space for the extra copies of The Mycosynth Gardens and finding them underwhelming, I tried it out in the mainboard, and was pleasantly surprised at how powerful this new creature was. The haste and ward 4 just make it such a powerful option when dealing with interactive decks. It's also not terrible in comparison to Primeval Titan, which is often the thing that holds back other big mana options.

It is almost the same as Primeval Titan finding Slayers' Stronghold, except you don't get the extra lands after swinging. Against non-interactive decks, that's slightly subpar. However, without an Amulet of Vigor, it can be seen as an upgrade if able to get to 7 instead of 6. Against any type of interaction, blue or not, it is a huge upgrade, since it is a threat that sticks around. Just running a single copy effectively gives us access to 5 copies, and allows us to cut Tolaria West down to 1 copy and not fear losing our redundancy as much. It also makes Summoner's Pact a must answer threat if we have 7 mana, since they can't interact with this new creature profitably.

You ever looked at Invasive Surgery? Seems right up your alley, along with Test of Talents and The Stone Brain

Never even knew that card existed (never seen it played lol). I definitely think I'd pay the extra mana for the broader Test of Talents though. That does make me wonder if there's other cards along the same lines that make sense. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll have to do some research.
