Maybeboard

This is a riff on a Modern Skred deck that goes much, much bigger.

I wanted a mono-red burn deck that had a bit more gas for multiplayer matches, but still able to smash in 1v1. The big keys are Skred+Snow lands to remove threats or blasting your own Boros Reckoner (in response to him being exiled or destroyed), Braid of Fire to provide mana for upgrading Figure/Comet Storm/Electrodominance/Reckoner or to drop a Hellkite as a finisher, Koth can very quickly end the game or just provide even more mana, Shrines keep the gas going for big finishes, and flipping Chandra is almost a guaranteed 11 dmg.

Sideboarding Matchups:

  • VS Tron/Scapeshift - Board in the 2 Molten Rain and 2 Blood Moon replacing the Bonecrushers, Eidolons, or Hellkites depending on what spells they have
  • VS Lifegain - Board in the 3 Rampaging Ferocidons replacing the Figures
  • VS Dredge/Delve/Spells - Board in the 4 Grafdigger's Cages replacing the Figures
  • VS Stoneblade/Hammertime - Board in the 4 Smash to Smithereens replacing the Koths, Shrines, or Hellkites

Been thinking about swapping out the Hellkites for Leyline Tyrants, however the Tyrants don't give that immediate punch the Hellkites' ETB does and only act as a mana reservoir. The one really nice thing about the Tyrants though is they enable you to use your Braid mana on your opponents turn instead of just your upkeep and they have that nice bonus of dealing out fireball damage when they die. I'm going to need to do a lot more playtesting with swapping them out or maybe replacing other cards with them before I make the decision, but I really like that card!!

I also went down to 3 Braid of Fire's from 4 since it seemed like I was getting extra Braids late in the game when I really wanted a burn spell instead. It seems to have really improved the hand flow of the deck and I still am almost guaranteed to see a Braid early on in games, if not my starting hand due to new mulligan rules.
