This series of instructional decks are designed to help new players learn the strengths of each color. Each one will discuss two major themes and two major creatures types in that color. This one focuses on green, , the colors of travel, stasis, and trickery.

Green is the color of travel, which is represented by flash, flying, and haste, giving its creatures a lot of mobility and fast pressure. Uktabi Drake is a quick and evasive attacker, and Pixie Queen and Concordant Crossroads ensure that all of your creatures can stay at this level. This theme of wandering can also be used to damage the opponent directly, by making the opponent or their creatures unable to stop, or give its creatures additional evasion. Wanderlust, Wandering Wolf, and Garruk, Savage Herald are excellent examples of this philosophy.

Paradoxically, it's also the color of stasis, which is usually represented by tangling undergrowth that shuts down opposing permanents. Mindbender Spores, Tangle, and Lignify represent this well. It can also counter certain abilities or prevent them from triggering or activating by blocking the flow of energy, as shown by Collector Ouphe, Bind, and Brown Ouphe.

Finally, two of the creature types associated with green are Faerie and Rogue. Faerie creatures almost always have flying, and are good at manipulating and disrupting opponents by granting protection, untapping your creatures, and buffing themselves and each other. The other tricksters are Rogues, which focus on manipulating the combat step. Deathtouch, vigilance, and various approaches to unblockability are common.

These themes make green a strong tempo color, able to attack quickly and directly while preventing the opponent from mounting an effective response. Cards that combine multiple themes like Hawkeater Moth or Yisan, the Wanderer Bard are especially valuable, capitalizing on multiple aspects of the color in a single card.
