Lots of trades —April 18, 2013

Did some trades for some pretty awesome cards from a really nice black EDH player today, so am swapping out some card pre-emtively before I build my beck good and proper:

Lhurgoyf can come out for Coffin Queen. As much as I love the art, Coffin Queen is better suited to stealing and the deck's theme of graveyards being empty and on your side of the board.

Then I've also got Butcher of Malakir and Chainer, Dementia Master. I really want to swap them out for stuff like Rise from the Grave and Soul's Majesty, but I'll leave them out for now. I also have Pox. If I ever managed to fit It That Betrays in the deck, it'd be fairly insane.

When I get Ashnod's Altar, Grave Pact and Phyrexian Tower, they'll all be going in the deck. Then it's a matter of seeing what else is ripe for being replaced.

I know you're not looking for cards to add, but Grave Pact , Butcher of Malakir , and Momentous Fall are all cards that seem to be staples of Kresh EDH. I would maybe take out everything you suggested taking out except for Sangromancer , as she is quite good in EDH. I also might take out Predatory Advantage because it doesn't offer a whole lot of advantage for its mana cost, and Sewer Nemesis because it's out of theme. Overall, though, I like it, and good luck with it! +1

Oh yeah, I can never get enough black to cast Phyrexian Obliterator , and Charmbreaker Devils is also kinda out of theme (though it is really good).

Hey, I like your token theme. I think you should cut what you suggested yourself. One problem I see is that your curve is too high, so I'd start cutting at 5 cost and above. So, Demon of Death's Gate , Hamletback Goliath (no evasion), It That Betrays , Korozda Guildmage , Savra, Queen of the Golgari (maybe), Sisters of Stone Death (maybe), Undercity Informer if you want a sac outlet play Ashnod's Altar , Verdant Force (maybe), Jar of Eyeballs , Rancor , Leyline of Vitality . My vote is to keep Predatory Advantage , but superllama might be right. It's hard, good luck.

Thanks guys! Yeah I know I need more mana ramp, so thanks for suggesting Ashnod's Altar. I know a lot of the stuff I'm still keeping in is because I'm still going (But it's solo cool! And I traded for ittttttt!). Stuff like Hamletback and Sewer Nemesis.

Believe it or not, I do have Grave Pact on my to-get list for this deck, and I did have Momentous Fall, but cut it. Butcher is another I could add to the list to fill. BUT still need to cut more. I'm going to go through again and get rid of anything out of theme...

Okay, made a bunch of changes and removals. I'm going to obviously add better cards when I get them, but for now, this is what I have and the closest I've come thus far to a finished deck. I'm still not sure how competitive it is, but at least it's got a good mixture and enough combos to keep things chugging along. Can be better, but I'll give it time. Proper write up in the description.

What do you guys think? Anything you think should've stayed? Anything you think should still be gone? Is it still competitive? Enough sacrificing? Enough graveyard searching?

For individual cards I kept despite your advice: Jar of Eyeballs is pretty underrated in a sac deck. The times it has come out in sac decks I've seen, you can get through at least 4-10 cards every turn if you make your deck well. It's like a combo tutor every turn. Korozda Guildmage ? It's a cheap blocker at least. At best, it allows big beasties through unblocked or for a huge amount of saprolings. Rancor is pretty much for my commander and big beasties. As much as I try and ignore them haha, my commander is still part of my game, and there's no point having a 66/66 Kresh (from past experience) if he can be chump blocked by a 1/1 goblin token. Plus rancor boomerangs back to my hand for limitless trampling attacks.

If you play Ashnod's Altar plus Mitotic Slime and Nim Deathmantle (or a couple other token creating creatures) you can get infinite mana and creatures, then fling cresh or use Genesis Wave or some other such nonsense. Peace.

Cheers bro. Yeah I'm aware of the magical Deathmantle uses with Composite Golem , but I actually have Mitotic slime, so that will be sweet! :D
