Hagra Diabolist

Creature — Ogre Shaman Ally

Whenever Hagra Diabolist or another Ally enters the battlefield under your control, you may have target player lose life equal to the number of Allies you control.

elliotmward97 sometimes yes, though it depends on which ally you’re talking about because different allies have different effects.

For the more powerful allies, you’ve got it right. Something like Hagra Diabolist will deal damage = [number of allies entering the battlefield] x [total allies, including those entering the battlefield]. So if you had the Diabolist in play with one other ally and then 2 more allies ETB, you’d have target opponent lose 8 life (4 allies total x 2 ally ETB triggers).

This calculation also applies to allies like Halimar Excavator, Ondu Cleric and Murasa Pyromancer.

Some of the ally triggers are pretty simple though, so Umara Raptor just gets a +1/+1 counter for each ally ETB. If two allies ETB at once, then the raptor gets two +1/+1 counters - he doesn’t care about the number of allies you control.

I find that Kindred Summons works really well with allies. Let's say you have 8 Allies out with one of them being Hagra Diabolist or with it being one of the creatures you hit, you will get 8 etb triggers, all dealing 16 damage. Kindred Summons has got to be by far the best card in my Allies deck because it either wins the game or gives insanely good value with even a couple Allies on board.

I recommend Panharmonicon and Yarok, the Desecrated to double up on your ETB for Hagra Diabolist . Other than cards that don't replace specific things, you should replace Gideon's Phalanx with Unified Front , If you want to add life drain I can give you some Ally oriented ideas.

Indirect damage with Hagra Diabolist or combat damage with lots of Allies or Commander damage with General Taz

I have a few non-traditional decks on my profile. The one I have the most fun is this one:

Rosheen Spellslinger, "X Tribal" Math EDH.

I was playing in a metagame where graveyard hate and board wipes were to be expected. I couldn't have a huge army of creatures because they would get wiped out. Artifact removal was rampant as well. Vandalblasts for days. But the one thing that seemed to be taboo was land destruction. Nobody was doing it, so I created a deck that ramps out all of your lands. After ramping lands, you drop a few enchantments that double your mana, untap everything with Early Harvest, and blast a big X spell. This was before "X" meant hydra tribal. I've played this against all sorts of decks and it wins out of nowhere. Your deck looks like it's going really slowly, and then boom!

An actual 60 card deck I built uses Mass Polymorph as the win condition. You create 4 or 5 tokens, and then mass polymorph into Hagra Diabolist and Clones. Let's say 4 Diabolists enter the battlefield at the same time. Each one triggers 4 times and the life drain is 4 for each trigger. 4 diabolists x 4 triggers each x 4 life = 64. I don't have the deck list on my profile, but it's basically esper control until you can cast your 6 mana spell. None of these combo pieces are particularly expensive, either.

Maybe these ideas are too comboey? Haha, I guess that's all I'm interested in LOL. What archetype are you looking for? Aggro?

Well the trick with allies is that you don't necessarily need to swing to win, you can just play Hagra Diabolist or Kalastria Healer or Halimar Excavator before you cast the Turntimber Ranger, or even after, because they're allies themselves and will trigger the Ranger when they enter.

dingusdingo addressing the three bullet points:

3c FC opposed to 5c FC:

Even with a low basic land count, a 3 colour deck will always be more consistent on mana and so will have to mulligan less for a playable opening hand, statistically. Introduction of the other two colours gives you all of 2 additional tutors (Enlightened Tutor and Gamble). If that's the whole argument for running 5 colours, it seems pretty weak.

Ukkima targets on winning loop, 5c does not target:

Food chain Tazri runs 3 win conditions (which I somehow have to keep explaining to you). These are Kalastria Healer, Hagra Diabolist and Halimar Excavator. Check basically every competitive Tarzi list if you don't believe me. Of those creatures 2 of the three target. While Kalastria Healer doesn't have to target, if you exile him while tutoring for food chain then you're in the same boat. And this only really matters if your opponent responds to your combo with a Veil of Summer or Autumn's Veil.

Shave off 2 cards from core of deck by dropping card quality significantly:

So then why not have every deck just be 5C? There are plenty of very strong Sultai decks out there, I don't see how the list is "significantly dropping card quality". If you make that claim, it's on you to justify that statement, not for me to disprove it. Yes you lose access to Squee, the Immortal, but you also gain access to Aluren lines that the deck can also run.

If you say that the deck is open to critisim because it's tagged competitive, then why is your Alesha, Who Smiles at Death list not just Tymna/Tana blood pod? I mean blood pod is better and way more established. And if you want to call me out for that being a dick argument, then see your post above.

Accusing me of not reading while not knowing how either First Sliver nor Tazri works isn't a good strategy. And you should know that exactly neither of those lists run Zulaport Cutthroat as per your previous comment.

And if you feel the need to attack me on a few spelling mistakes or post my name on a "scrublord" list (which has been since taken down), then I would tell you to grow up. Unfortunately I don't think you'll take my advice, but one can hope.

dingusdingo: I never said this was "as powerful as Tazri or First Sliver for a FC deck". All I was saying is that having your FC outlet in the command zone is good because it frees up slots, which it does. Ignoring Squee, the Immortal (which yes, this deck misses out on unfortunately), most Tazri lists run Kalastria Healer, Halimar Excavator and Hagra Diabolist as their outlets, so that they don't rely on having a single outlet accidentally exiled (note that neither of Tazri nor First Sliver runs Zulaport Cutthroat). So against a Tazri list, you lose one card slot for having two commanders, but gain two as you don't have to run any drain loop pieces in the actual deck. That is 100% the definition of freeing up card slots.

I'm not arguing that this will be the definitive new list to take down flash hulk or anything like that. However when I viewed the decklist and the very first comment on it I could see was effectively shitting on the deck for no reason and then asking what benefit you got from playing it, I simply pointed out that you get a more compact FC line since you don't have to run backups on your FC loop outlet creatures.

And similarly to your response, stating that the list just doesn't bring anything to the table compared with the current meta (read Thrasios/Tymna Flash Hulk) doesn't bring anything constructive to a discussion on this list. It would be like me going to your decklists and posting that every deck of yours isn't as good as flash hulk so why bother even playing it. Agruements like that stifle creativity and don't bring anything to the cEDH community.
