Hagra Diabolist Discussion

Targeting any of your wizards with a Rite of Replication (especially Hagra Diabolist or Turntimber Ranger, who is not a wizard) is massive.

On that note, Progenitor Mimic slots nicely into a similar place in this deck.

Hey The_Raven_Guy, What're my thoughts on The First Sliver ? Well, it's an amazing addition to Slivers as a tribe, and adds a whole new dimension of deck construction by giving a viable cEDH Sliver commander. Specifically, this would be an excellent alternative food chain commander outside of Prossh, Skyraider of Kher and General Tazri . One particular list I'm a fan of is ShaperSavant's Food Chain Sliver cEDH build. I don't think it will ever overshadow Prossh , but it definitely outshines General Tazri as you aren't dependent on an outlet ( Kalastria Healer , Hagra Diabolist , or Halimar Excavator ) to win the game. With First you simply cast your whole deck and win with something...almost anything really. It offers more variety with your wincon selection.

Outside of cEDH, First is just plain fun. With a Sliver tribal deck (such as mine) you can simply flood the board with permanents, and turn a relatively bare battlefield on turn 5 to something that looks like you're on turn 9 or 10. In this deck, First took the slot of Dormant Sliver - who in my opinion is woefully underrated. Going from to isn't quite the best feeling...but in the long run I think is worth the sacrifice.

I think for additional win cons you could use either Halimar Excavator or Akoum Battlesinger. Excavator is good against Ensnaring Bridge when you don't have Hagra Diabolist.

A really fun General Tazri Zada, Hedron Grinder deck that kills all our small tokens with Pongify and Rapid Hybridization for bigger tokens, or Polymorph them into Allies from the library to win with Hagra Diabolist. Lots of different ways to win, such as stealing everyone's Dragons with Descent of the Dragon and Willbreaker, one-sided wipe with Mercy Killing then Spawning Breath, infinite Wolves with Turntimber Ranger and Arcane Adaptation, Polymorphous Rush everything into Zulaport Cutthroat then sacrifice, or burning opponents to death with lots of copies of Fiery Gambit.

Looks good! +1!

I also recommend Mass Polymorph like cards. You could even throw in just a single Polymorph to hit one of you spell copiers.

Kor Entanglers for some added control or Kalastria Healer for some burn/life gain.

Hagra Diabolist hits harder but Kalastria Healer can save you if you dont have all the combo pieces yet. cheaper cmc is a huge plus in my book too.

Seems like a great deck! I love playing Allies in Modern too. +1 from me.

What do you do with this deck against UB creature hate? I noticed you don't really have any post-boardwipe options, or ways to protect your field.

Some ideas for you that I use in my Ally deck: Eerie Interlude can not only bounce your whole field, since all the Allies re-enter at the same time you get to trigger all their abilites for as many times as you have Allies. This can get you some big Blademasters or gain you a lot of life with the Clerics.

Other options would be graveyard recursion, like March from the Tomb or Return to the Ranks. The big problem is having enough mana to cast them after your Druid dies - 20 land is too few to be consistent enough to get you the 5 land you need to recover by the time the opponent locks out the board post-wipe (not to mention counterspells...) This may mean splashing black, yes, but it also means you can add key Allies like Hagra Diabolist and Bala Ged Thief, who present alternate paths to victory that don't hinge on combat damage.

If you end up adding some of these spells for recursion's sake, then might I also recommend Bring to Light? If you Converge for 5, you can tutor for March from the Tomb and cast it for free, meaning you only need 1 copy of your recursion spell to have access to it. Then just pack as many Bring to Light's as you want in order to tutor out the spell you need. In fact, if you Converge for 5 with Bring to Light, you can tutor any Ally, Instant, or Sorcery out of your deck and cast them for free.

Last suggestion is Unified Front. It gets you up to 4 Ally ETBs for as little as 4 mana - as an Ally player you should know how swull that can make your board. If you have a Harabaz Druid out, Unified Front's creature generation pays for itself.

Thanks, it's nice to put my spin on FCT.

Shapesharer looks cool, I've added it to the maybeboard. I've also added Tainted Pact to the maybeabaord for now, however I was actually thinking of dropping Misthollow Griffin since I have a bunch of not Food Chain lines and Griffin is the most expensive to cast. It's the same reason I'm not running Hagra Diabolist. But again, I'd be keen to get your thoughts.

The deck looks pretty sweet. Have you considered Venser, the Sojourner as a means to bounce Tazri and search up more allies. On a similar note, Deadeye Navigator also works to give you a ton of ETB triggers off of whoever you soulbond it to; and Brago, King Eternal can double up on those ETBs.

Retreat to Emeria can pop some chump blockers that also enable ally ETB triggers.

Another possible win condition you could sneak into the deck, too, could be the Turntimber Ranger + Xenograft/ Conspiracy/ Arcane Adaptation infinite combo. With Hagra Diabolist on the field when Turntimber goes off would wipe the table.

Love the deck, though!
