Favorite Tabletop Deck? Need Inspiration

Deck Help forum

Hey guys. I'm looking for new inspiration for a 60 card tabletop deck. Looking for something fun but still competitive at the kitchen table.

We normally play with 3-4 people. I don't want land destruction, chaos-based, infection, super combo-y. Generally less of a blue player in that I don't like to sit back and control/counter other's plays.

Have any suggestions? Thanks!

How about unusual tribes? They tend to be very fun and can be unsuspectedly strong. Personally, I really like turtles and crocodiles, but there are lots of different tribes obviously. Maybe take look at my profile? There is a link to my tribal folder.

One of my most favorite casual decks was a challenge to win with. Eater of Days, Leveler, and Cosmic Larva all in the same deck.

I think the escape mechanic is a lot of fun. Discard a bunch of cards with Thrill of Possibility and the like and cast Satyr's Cunning over and over!

if you're playing a group game and don't care about format legalities, there are creatures that give themselves counters whenever a player plays a spell, and these creatures obviously get better when there are more opponents. things like Managorger Hydra, Forgotten Ancient, and Sunscorch Regent to name a few. toss in some Hardened Scales, Winding Constrictor, and Conclave Mentor to start stacking counters even faster.

seshiro_of_the_orochi I've enjoyed tribal in commander and I love turtles in real life so I will have to explore your idea. Thank you

psionictemplar Bwahaha...what?! lol

Omniscience_is_life That's interesting. I haven't played with the escape mechanic really.

Keqing420 I have a counter-based commander deck (Atraxa, Praetors' Voice) that's been needing some updates/tweaks. So I'll be looking into your card suggestions for that deck. Thanks!

Taytora: if you have the list posted on here, i can take a gander in a bit and recommend some cards. wotc has put out a lot of counter related cards recently.

one fun deck i used to have involved abusing creatures like Kiln Fiend and Nivix Cyclops with spells like Artful Dodge, Slip Through Space, Assault Strobe, and Tainted Strike to swing for lethal in one turn.

I had a lot of fun with protection decks back in the day. Pro-black B/W with Crypt Rats and Lifelink, or pro-red with Earthquake and Repentant Blacksmith. Stuff like that. Maybe even some CoPs.

FormOverFunction:Light of Sanction would be a good inclusion if you still have that protection deck. That reminds me of when I built a u/w deck with Karma and Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth for fun.

A fun deck I put together when I still did a lot of kitchen table magic was zombie hunt. The premise is to run 3x Treasure Hunt, 4x Reliquary Tower and 2x Zombie Infestation with the rest of the deck being basic lands or any lands of your chosing. You mulligan until you have a Treasure Hunt in your opening hand and cast it on your third turn before you play your land which will cause you to pick up 20ish cards normally, then you play Reliquary Tower so you dont have to discard. Hopefully your treasure hunt gets you one of your Zombie Infestation's. Next you play Zombie Infestation and pitch the lands in your hand to create a bunch off zombies to kill the table.

I actually have 3 budget builds on my page that I built specifically for kitchen table fun! I’m not sure how to link them nicely on TO, however.

This one is a sweet discard based deck, utilizing Waste Not over cards like The Rack, making it more kitchen table friendly, but less competitive.

I have a few non-traditional decks on my profile. The one I have the most fun is this one:

Rosheen Spellslinger, "X Tribal" Math EDH.

I was playing in a metagame where graveyard hate and board wipes were to be expected. I couldn't have a huge army of creatures because they would get wiped out. Artifact removal was rampant as well. Vandalblasts for days. But the one thing that seemed to be taboo was land destruction. Nobody was doing it, so I created a deck that ramps out all of your lands. After ramping lands, you drop a few enchantments that double your mana, untap everything with Early Harvest, and blast a big X spell. This was before "X" meant hydra tribal. I've played this against all sorts of decks and it wins out of nowhere. Your deck looks like it's going really slowly, and then boom!

An actual 60 card deck I built uses Mass Polymorph as the win condition. You create 4 or 5 tokens, and then mass polymorph into Hagra Diabolist and Clones. Let's say 4 Diabolists enter the battlefield at the same time. Each one triggers 4 times and the life drain is 4 for each trigger. 4 diabolists x 4 triggers each x 4 life = 64. I don't have the deck list on my profile, but it's basically esper control until you can cast your 6 mana spell. None of these combo pieces are particularly expensive, either.

Maybe these ideas are too comboey? Haha, I guess that's all I'm interested in LOL. What archetype are you looking for? Aggro?
