45 person FNM hit top 8 again vs some very good players and decks. This deck continues to show performance and consistency in the meta.

After consideration, I have removed Sword of Feast and Famine in favor of Godsend. Godsend more accurately fits with what the deck tries to do. The Sword was only in the deck for the purpose of an infinite combo that this deck just doesn't need.
Tariel, Reckoner of Souls was replaced with Reya Dawnbringer to be able to bring back my own things, versus stealing opponents things at random. Reya just works better.
This deck kicks serious ass. I loves it.

Conceded at FNM
HiddenStrings, 11 years ago
I was almost tied for first, but ended up conceding as time ran out on the T5 to give my opponent the win. If I had two more turns Brain Tap would have been the big winner. I figured one of us needed to make the cut, so I was the gentleman. Completely ran over an extremely competitive Boros deck. He couldn't believe he lost 2-0 to a Mono-Black deck :) I had an Esper Control deck scoop up on the 3rd turn of the first match, which was odd (I thought). He ended up winning the next two matches primarily because I had sideboard out Bile Blight and forgot to return it? So Elsbeth's weenies killed me. The big winner that I lost to was am Azorius deck utilizing Elsbeth, Ajani and the enchantment mechanics for heroic buffs. I was able to Bile Blight 23 kitty cats and swung in for the win. Overall, very impressed with the performance of Brain Tap, and won't be changing a thing.
A Different Event

My recent 3-0 win got me free entrance to a saturday standard event, so I decided to go. I was happy with my play for the most part, getting 2nd with a 3-1 record.
Round 1
Opponent: B/W Shadowborn Apostles
Game 1: Win. I played my creatures and ran over them before they got enough out.
Game 2: Win. Same thing as game 1.
Round 2
Opponent: B/R control
Game 1: Win. I had more creatures than he had removal and took care of business.
Game 2: Win. Same as game 1.
MVPs of the round were Fleecemane Lion and Brimaz, King of Oreskos doing pretty much all of the damage.
Round 3
Opponent: Mono Black Devotion
Game 1: Loss. Started out getting my hand striped of good threats. My creatures then couldn't hang in there against a Lifebane Zombie and a Desecration Demon.
Game 2: Loss. Removal of my creatures into Desecration Demon and Gray Merchant of Asphodel took game 2 convincingly.
I'm not too sure what I could get to help this matchups. The Skullcrack in my sideboard would, but I didn't draw them. Selesnya Charm exile doesn't seem like enough to remove demons consistently.
Round 4
Opponent: Jund Monsters
Game 1: Win. I took him by surprise with a Fencing Ace + Ghor-Clan Rampager combo that he wasn't expecting. Took the game fairly quickly.
Game 2: Loss. He kept my creatures in check with many removal spells he sided in. Eventually Stormbreath Dragons started coming out and I wasn't drawing answers for them.
Game 3: Win. Really tough game. Ended up getting a big swing in, but lost board to an overloaded Mizzium Mortars. I got some more damage in with a Brave the Elements
+
Ghor-Clan Rampager
+
Selesnya Charm
knight token combo. Lived 1 more turn and ended with a Boros Charm to the dome.

Replaced Banishing Light with o-ring. Not entirely sure it should still be in there at that cost, though.
Moar Hydra!

So, I got rid of the Elvish Mystic cards. That extra 1 turn doesn't seem to make much of a difference, and the bigger creatures can have some hilarious effects with the Illusionist's Bracers attached to them.

I replaced breaking/entering due to blue in mana cost and replaced it with a foil praetor's counsel. Will give me nice hand advantage. Might put in a Reliquary Tower aswell.

Yeesh, FNM gets more bad ass every time I go. I had innumerous trades completed and as a result finished my goal of getting 1 of every g-d( I needed mogis, iroas, and atheros) but more importantly got VERY good cards for the deck. In a swap I received a Sword of War and Peace for a Sword of Feast and Famine and Torpor Orbs, a Day of Judgment and Grafdigger's Cage the sideboard is updated, so whaddaya think!?

Update

I dropped the Restoration Angels and a land, adding a second Vendilion Clique and 4 Vapor Snag. The 23 land required to make Angel playable meant flooding out too often.
3-1 FNM 6/13

Probably would have gone 4-0, honestly. But I got a game lose against burn because I was late getting food, and the round went really short for once. (shit happens.) Played the edited version of this deck, and it's playing amazingly. My matchups were almost all aggro on the night, and I just did well all night. I'll go over the matchups real quick. 1. Played against a budget RDW. I might have had more of a problem if it wasn't budget, but I have too much lifegain, and early blockers. His deck build was pretty suspect. Easy 2-0. 2. Played against a much better RDWs that splashes White. This is where I got the gamelose for being late, I won the second 'game' but him playing first on the third 'game' and I couldn't stabilize in time against the Phoenixs and such. Wish I could have played game three where I was on the play, I think I would have had a shot. But it happens. 3. Played against White weenies. I stabilized very quickly in both matches, and just ran him over once I took control, both games. 2-0 4. Played against a regular who has been playing Naya brave without the green. Makes for a weird White Weenie deck with access to Boros charms and other red goodness. I stomped him first game, he stomped me second game, and third game we had a very long stall because he drew into two brimaz, and lots of removal for my fatties. Had to keep stalling with Courser and taking the kitten damage. However I eventually reestablished and won the game in overtime. Conclusion: Like I said in my description, I play against a lot of aggro. Midrange usually does good against aggro unless it's a really strange build. Wish I would have won that second match and seen where the night would have gone from there.

Deck Acquired and First Match!
GRUULFTW, 11 years ago
I Acquired this deck through trading and spending some money. I played casually against one my friends who plays a standard g/r monsters. So here's what happened. In our first game he got a turn 3 storm breath dragon that blew me away. I had no protection against flying things... Second game I mana ramped to a turn 6 primal surge and ripped him apart. Third game was close, but in the end a progenitor mimic plus Thragtusk loop saved me. I gained 5 life each turn and had a wall of Thragtusk defenders. I used a vorinclex Kruphix and prophet of Kruphix mana trick to make Polukranos a 100/100, wipe my friends board and swing with everything killing him.

Land Switch
ElendVenture, 11 years ago
I've decided to switch out the Guildgates/Maze's End for shocklands/City of Brass in an attempt speed up the deck.
Karametra, God of Harvests *f-etch* Can also use her ability to pull 7 out of the ten shocklands out of my deck and onto the battlefield. This makes for much quicker land grabbing than the previous Maze's End method.
