Looking for a dirt cheap, inefficient, stupid Modern deck

Modern forum

Posted on April 24, 2015, 5:13 p.m. by Jay

I'm sort of in between decks right now, and probably won't have my next one finished for the next few months. Are there any very very cheap decks that can maybe win sometimes? Examples are decks like MonoG Belcher and Quest for the Holy Relic. I'm thinking about making It's all goody as long as I get a woody, but it's probably a little too stupid.

Any really dumb, really cheap decks to try out? I don't really wanna make Kiln Fiend, but I will if I have to.

ALSO: I know infect and burn exist. I'm looking for something more interesting.

Thanks
Jay

Hmmm... I think I might actually own like 60% of that haha. I'll keep it in mind. Thanks for the suggestion!

Living end will cost you like $10 if you skimp on the land base.

I have a friend who plays it already, and I'd like to avoid doubling up :/ it's a possibility though, thanks!

Wanna built something cheap? Mono blue mill! It not that bad, and it's quite fun!

Or just straight up counterspells. You would have no win con, so it's inefficient, and most counterspells are super cheap!

Here is a deck I made which preforms fairly well for it's price and is pretty simple. Golgari Counter Play

You'll struggle with some of the faster aggro decks, but this deck is incredibly cheap and fairly effective: Know the Drill.

Selesnya hexproof? Slippery Boggle! + Gladecover Scout + auras, basically. It has some pricey cards, like Daybreak Coronet, but those can easily be replaced with dollar-cards, and give you an avenue to upgrade the deck when you get more money, yay!

Edit: Slippery Boggle!. Dunno how an exclamation point got in there...

I think you mean Slippery Bogle

Odd. I do. How does it keep doing that...

I think you're putting an extra "g", so it's selecting the wrong thing.

Simic delver aka modern miracle grow. Delver of Secrets  Flip, Quirion Dryad, counterspells. Super fun to play, dirt cheap and can win out of nowhere.

Or one of those Altar of the Brood + Heartless Summoning + Myr Retriever decks? I always found those quite interesting.

Got a link to that Simic Delver you mentioned? Always up for some janky Simic shenanigans, says I.

You just play Quirion Dryad, Delver of Secrets  Flip, Simic Charm, Vapor Snag, Mana Leak, Think Twice, Anticipate, Remand (little bit expensive), Condescend, other counterspells.

What about mono Skred red control? Can build the list for about 100 gbp and foil for about 250

JexInfinite says... #26

ChiefBell And of course you play Shadow of Doubt to screw all those fetches. Never forget Shadow of Doubt.

JexInfinite let's build an anti fetch deck with Boomerang Shadow of Doubt Trickbind and Squelch lol

April 25, 2015 8:28 a.m.

JexInfinite says... #28

Dies to any aggro deck. No thanks. I've already tried making a Shadow of Doubt deck, but it's just not good. Shadow is the best support card, but you cannot make a deck around it.

April 25, 2015 8:38 a.m.

tyforthevenom says... #29

Why is Shadow of Doubt better than Squelch btw

Jay sorry to hijack the thread with my question

Infect is dirt cheap and you get to make people rage.

April 25, 2015 4:13 p.m.

JexInfinite says... #31

tyforthevenom Shadow of Doubt is at worst a cantrip. At worst, Squelch is a dead card. Shadow can also hit Scapeshift and Ranger of Eos, while Squelch sits around in your hand being useless.
