I got a couple responses on reddit but like to here what more/different people think.

TLDR: Should I slot in Seedborn Muse , Shalai, Voice of Plenty , Asceticism , and/or Privileged Position , and what should I remove to make room in my deck? Link is below to deck.

Hey all!

I'm feeling close to done modifying my Ghired Populate deck, but am looking for advice on the last couple cards:

Seedborn Muse: I'd like to try slotting this card in and at the very least see how it goes. I can see it helping create tokens 4x faster by untapping all my permanents, helping cards like Kiki Jiki, Godsire, Selesnya Eulogist, Trostani, Idol of Oblivion, Feldon, Rhys, and Shalai and Asceticism, if I add them, create a large army before my next turn (assuming 4-person pod). Also it would mean that I can spend all my mana and not have to save any to cast protection instants like Heroic Intervention and will also mean I can play other instants (like advent of the wurm and some removal spells) on other players' turns.

Shalai, Voice of Plenty and/or Asceticism (or Privileged Position?): I'd like to add these to help protect my creatures. Shalai adds some additional protection for planeswalkers and against spells that target me. She also cost cmc 4 instead of 5, but is a creature which makes her easier to kill than an enchantment. Her bonus ability, while expensive, can be a mana sink if nothing else (esp with seedborn muse). Asceticism is cmc 5, which is slightly annoying. But it's an enchantment which is generally a little harder to kill and lasts longer, and can regenerate my creatures (esp with Seedborn Muse) in the event of a board wipe/Wrath effect. Privileged Position obviously has greater hexproofing, but can't help against board wipes at all.

I'd Ideally like to add 3 of the above 4 cards mentioned, but can't decide on where to slot them in and really looking for advice on that. Possibly Song of the Worldsoul since it's expensive? Maybe Mimic Vat, Hate Mirage, or Ohran? Something else? I'm not sure; they all have a role in the deck. Here is my deck: Ghired Gargantuan Genesis

Thanks for any and all help/suggestions!

I think that you should slot in Seedborn Muse , Shalai, Voice of Plenty , Asceticism , and/or Privileged Position for Hate Mirage , Advent of the Wurm and Armada Wurm . I think that the protection and power that the first four cards present to your deck are more important overall than what the latter three cards present. Hate Mirage is a cool card and can have some really cool interactions in your deck, but it requires too much to be all that good. Advent of the Wurm and Armada Wurm are very similar cards and I feel that there are enough token producers (of both large and small tokens) to warrant their removal from the deck. As for which of the four cards you should put in for the now three empty slots in your deck if you choose to take these three out, I feel that Seedborn Muse and Shalai, Voice of Plenty are auto-includes, and that Asceticism provides more overall for the deck than Privileged Position does. I hope this helps, this deck looks super sweet. Have fun!

Hey, I have a different opinion.

I think only Shalai is worth adding because she can help to protect the creature combos, Ghired, yourself, she's a flying creature and she's not a five drop. It's not that other three five drops are bad cards they're just not worth adding since there's other cards that can help your deck more. There's already nine five drops in your deck which is too much. If you were to add another five drop then my advice is to cut a five drop. There's plenty of lower mana cost protection already: Intervention, Charm, Rootborn, Escort.

Shared Summons for example is a better five drop for your deck then Muse, Asceticism, Privileged, Tendershoot, Oketra, Frostfang, Packleader because it can tutor for the creature combos. Your deck is a combo deck, but it lacks tutors which can find the combos or better cards. Eladamri's Call is great, but it's the only tutor in your deck...

The about $30 price of the four cards combined could be used in other ways. An option would be to upgrade the manabase with more playable dual lands. Getting a Temple Garden , Stomping Ground and Canopy Vista for instance makes the good land ramp spells: Nature's Lore , Wood Elves and Farseek nice options. Another option that's better for $30 is get an Enlightened Tutor and Eternal Witness to recur a tutor or any other card.

Helm of the Host is a big part of the combos, but you don't have any way to tutor for it other than six drop Godo. Gamble , Open the Armory or Enlightened Tutor can all do more than Muse, Asceticism or Privileged. Fierce Empath , a less than $1 card, can do more for your deck then Muse, Asceticism or Privileged.

Tutor options (budget or expensive) to consider adding:

Whenevery you use Seedborn Muse , I always recommend having Planar Bridge in the same deck. Because search & play renewed on every opponent's upkeep is good.
