Embarking on Sultai build, looking for Infect/Reanimator advice

Commander Deck Help forum

I'm interested in putting together an Infect/Reanimator style deck led by Sidisi, Brood Tyrant and wanted to seek some building and piloting advice from anyone used to working either style or both together.

It's going to be quite new to me - I've never played Infect as a thing in any format, I've played a Meren EDH deck but it's more sac focused than reanimator and I've not been brave enough so far to run a self mill style deck.

I want to be clear - I don't want this to be a zombie tribal deck, and I don't particularly want to run Atraxa at the helm though I appreciate the obvious Infect synergy so unless you're desperate to push that I should change to her, I'd prefer to stay with Sidisi.

Thanks in advance for any help!

In BUG colors you get the whole infect package. Green and black offer you the critters or enchantments (i.e. Glistening Oil) whileblue let's you abuse proliferate mechanics.

A word of forewarning, playing infect makes you the target. The bulk of infect critters are typically small bodied which means it's harder to push through. Of course, there's way around that and if you manage to poison everyone with a single counter you can easily abuse proliferate to win.

I've seen infect Atraxa decks and they can be brutal. However, her proliferate ability seems slow to me if you just expect her to do it all. The addition of white doesn't seem to add much to your strategy.

As per the reanimation part. I prefer passive reanimation spells like Oversold Cemetery over single use spells like Reanimate but if reanimation is the theme you're going with then Necromancy, Dread Return (works nicely with the zombs), Vigor Mortis, Animate Dead, Beacon of Unrest, Life/Death, ect. all work. Tortured Existence and Phyrexian Reclamation are great budget options too and work great. Some creatures like Sheoldred, Whispering One, Hell's Caretaker, Coffin Queen, Doomed Necromancer are all solid options.

Note that some of these let you pick a critter from ANY graveyard. That is why I would recommend Mesmeric Orb with Sidisi. You can make so many zombs and it fills everyone's yard- ripe for the picking.

I agree with Flagellum that passive reanimation is better but I'd like to add Chainer, Dementia Master to his list. He's a little mana intensive but he's worth it.

I'm very surprised you aren't using The Mimeoplasm, as he is notorious for being a powerful infect/reanimator deck. He himself can come in and exile a Putrefax and a Death's Shadow and have a one-shot commander, and that's just the tip of the iceberg.

I have go agree with MagicalHacker, you're much better off using The Mimeoplasm. There aren't that many good (edh playable) infect creatures however he really helps capitalise on even the bad ones.

Also, Hydra Omnivore + Tainted Strike + Distortion Strike is a nice little interaction that ends games and is on theme.

Hi everyone, thanks a lot for the input. I'll be making a start over the weekend most likely.

I'm not needing this to be a super-hardcore build so the flavour is a bit more important than the thrashing. I don't particularly want to change the commander for this reason. I agree that Atraxa doesn't add much with white and I do appreciate that The Mimeoplasm can smash face but I am thinking further down the road for a quirky build for him...

I don't know if there's anything quirkier than making infect powerful enough in edh though!
