If you are ballsy enough you could try running a Forced Fruition

Saakeli That is a beautiful card! Having that out on the field would quite honestly stop the game right then and there! I greatly appreciate and approve of this!

I would put in Spell Crumple , and Hinder . The 2 best counters in EDH and they are relatively cheap! :)

I know you don't want to spend money on mtg, but if you can find somewhat cheap copies of Gilded Lotus or Thran Dynamo , be sure and grab them up

Darnok While it is something I have not had a huge issue with, having spell counters in the deck would not be a bad idea at all. Spell Crumple would work well since I often cycle through my deck in a normal game with things like Teferi's Puzzle Box , and I'd end up getting it again. While Hinder does not get this same benefit, it would still be nice to have, because I am sick of having my enchantments and artifacts popped :P.

K34 Gilded Lotus would certainly be a card I would love to get, and all things considered it isn't a huge amount of money for what it does. Getting that five mana to play is easy to do quite honestly. Thran Dynamo , while it is also a very good card, is a little too pricey for my purposes. The one extra mana is not hard to get, and to have the ability to get three black mana (as some of these cards have silly start-up costs) or any combination for that matter is invaluable. When Christmas swings around I may most certainly treat myself to that Gilded Lotus though!!! Thank you for the suggestions, everyone!

I would also suggest Whispering Madness + Enter the Infinite Lovely little combo. Draw your deck. Make everyone discard their hand. Make them draw their decks. XD With all the damage from draw it is evil. I run it in my own lil Nekusar deck.

Podma101 says... #8

Feyyore Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't that end up in a draw? Because I would reach zero cards in my library from Whispering Madness and everyone else would die from card draw damage or no library. Don't get me wrong, either way that would be utterly hilarious, I just want to be sure that's what would happen.

you should add more lands. Out of about five mulligans i got one land

Podma101 says... #10

mama_tom While I do admit having only 31 lands in the deck is a bit low, all of the games I have played (and about 60 playtests) have gone relatively fine mana wise. By turn 12 I always had at least 7 lands on the field, and that does not include any of the artifacts that generate mana or fetch lands. At times I do end up discarding early on due to not getting mana to play, but this usually only happens at most 3 times, and discarding doesn't concern me very much in this deck to be honest. If I end up discarding or having the situation you ran into, then I would simply commit that to being a very bad string of luck/shuffling.

I would recommend adding Helm of the Ghastlord if you can fit it into the deck. Maybe replace Curse of the Bloody Tome ?

My buddy has a fairly well tuned Nekusar deck if your looking for other ideas:

iamnickhansen Helm of the Ghastlord is something I should consider. The buffing I am less concerned with, but the effects are nice! I have never been a huge fan of Curse of the Bloody Tome and I have planned to replace it once I feel like buying more cards. I most certainly thank you for the other deck, that had some cards in I am extremely interested in, most notably Exquisite Blood (infinite combos ho!)!

No problem, glad to help! I may end up switching Zurgo to Kaalia. I'm not worried about being hated out of a game. My play group is pretty fine tuned so everyone that plays there is a huge threat from turn 1.

iamnickhansen Kaalia? You're a monster. I thought my deck was cruel to my friends but that's just plain mean sir.

Podma101 I already have Riku, Ghave, and Lazav built, so what's one more cruel commander? Hahaha

Podma101, I decided to go with Kaalia of the Vast. If you have a chance to look, let me know what you think. Here is the decklist:

Podma101 Indeed it does though with things like Parallel Thoughts you'd survive. It is a fun way to end the game with one hell of a laugh. Everyone... face esplode.

Have you considered Larceny?

Werternut says... #19

Font of Mythos gives you more draw and more damage to your opponents. Dictate of Kruphix does the same thing.

Podma101 says... #20

m4ver1k I like the discard on Larceny, but unfortunately my deck does not focus heavily on creatures swinging and dealing damage to players. More often than not they just sit there and I capitalize on their effects.

Werternut I love Font of Mythos and I have already decided to make room for it. I considered Dictate of Kruphix early on for my deck, but I felt that there are cards already present in my deck that accomplish this and more.

Podma101 - That's totally fair. I forgot to also note potential use of Rogue's Passage along with it though for that exact reason. Just a heads up if you wanted to reconsider it. I do like this deck though, good job with it.

m4ver1k While I don't care for Larceny, a Rogue's Passage wouldn't be an awful idea for the deck at all. It would be nice to guarantee direct damage for some of my cards like Mindleech Mass and Lord of the Void, not to mention the few powerhouse creatures I get (Wight of Precinct Six and Deathbringer Thoctar. Thank you for both the suggestions and the compliment, I appreciate them greatly!!!

For any one who would like to give their input, I am currently struggling with making room for cards in this deck. I am considering taking out Baleful Strix for Venser's Journal. I realize that they have nothing in common, but this is not so much replacing Strix with a better version of itself than taking out a card I don't really get use out of and adding a card that would make this deck more survivable. It's a great, there is no doubting that, but it does very little for my deck. I rarely ever get it out on turn two, and this deck does not do early game creatures at all. The few I do have posses powerful abilities that allow them to scale into late game or have obnoxious passives. Let me know what you think!!!

I'd leave in Baleful Strix. If you're trying to get around a maximum hand size, I personally swear by Library of Leng (in place of Increasing Vengeance) as it also foils hand disruption since you can just put it on top of your library instead of your graveyard, and you can tutor it out off the back of Trinket Mage. You can also go the Reliquary Tower route and replace Wayfarer's Bauble with Expedition Map (which I'd recommend doing regardless).
