Garruk, Lord of Golgari

Standard BG (Golgari) Midrange Ramp

So Garruk, Apex Predator is basically the embodiment of Golgari. So much so that it would be criminal to not build a deck around him. GLoG features some of the allstars from Gruul and Jund midrange being backed up by the pure beauty of black removal. From board wipes to straight up kill spells and abilities your opponent will be struggling to keep things on the field. That is if they live long enough.

Big, dumb, stompy, creatures are the core of any deck running green. The biggest creatures in the game are green and with game changers like Polukranos, World Eater, green in standard is just pure stompy fun. Ramp hard into big heavy hitters. The 3 real champions here being out 5/5 at 4 mana. With the ramp in this deck, you will be hitting with at least one of these on turn 4, two of them on turn 5, and if you don't monstrous Polukranos, you will have Garruk on the field wreaking havok.

This deck is consistent, it is mean, and dear lord is it fun to have a army of face smashing behemoths hitting the board one after the other.

NOTE:This is a post rotation deck. Theros forward suggestions only please. This deck was put together to feature primarily cards I currently have. I will be working on getting the more expensive cards as time goes on, and as such the deck will be updated.

Oh dear lord did this deck preform.

There was a little over 20 people at the local shop and a decent percent were running mono black or green. I was up against a stream of removal or an endless line of fatties. Unfortunately for my opponent, This deck has both.

Total 4 wins to 1 loss.

Round one. Mono Green 0-2

My opponent here had a newer mana dump mono green deck that showed a few Nissa but i managed to keep him from anything big long enough for face punching to do its magic. Sadly he had more face punching and pretty same good card draw.

Round two Esper 2-1

The last week this guy gets to play rtr control and it didn't go well for him. He didnt seem to have enough bounces in hand to stop Erebos card draw and overall lacked in tempo.

Round three Mono Black 2-0

Mono black has been seeing a lot of play and for good reason. This was one of the closest games of the night and it would have been a round loss if I let him keep any more devotion on the field. Our removal worked well but it was the Whip that saved us.

Round 4 Aggro red 2-0

Big creatures fast stalled him out. The games ended fast after 2 or 3 fatties swinging each turn.

Round 5 Mono green 2-1

He had a ton of mana and a ton of trample. Nylea made this game hard and i almost lost it but silence the believers wiped the big threats easily.

Overall - Not too abd
