Dairy Queen (Parfait Factory)

Legacy*

Sideboard

This deck is essentially a man-land control deck, not unlike landstill, utilizing the parfait draw engine. The strategy with the deck is to essentially stall the first 3 turns to allow the resolution of a humility. Once this is achieved you can activate your factories and pumping them up for 2 to 3 points of damage per turn. Once you can resolve an Elspeth you are capable of attacking for 5 or 6 damage flying per turn.

In order to establish your control engine you need to have at least 1 part of your parfait engine assembled; with the core of the engine being scroll rack. With a resolved scroll rack you are capable of both playing terminus for its alternative casting cost (at sorcery speed) and drawing control relevant spells such as orim's chant, mana tithe, or spot removal. Likely the first portion of the combo you will be playing is a land tax; which will most likely be countered by the blue player. Luckily in order to support your land tax you have orim's chant and mana tithe to help you resolve a land tax or scroll rack. This is where a very skilled player will shine when piloting this deck. Although mana tithe may seem trivial it is extremely good in the early game and tends to surprise the opposing player as they will most likely punt their first turn spell since they will assume you are playing death and taxes. If they are blue they will maybe even follow up with a counterspell which is even better for you since you are looking to establish your parfait engine. Once land tax and scroll rack is assembled on the board you will easily be drawing full hands of fresh spells every turn as long as you have less lands then your opponent (where Zuran Orb helps in mid-late game).

How does the parfait engine work? After the land tax trigger at the end of upkeep you activate scroll rack putting your hand aside (exile), drawing the number of cards equal to your new handsize (old handsize +3 lands from tax); after which you put your old hand on top of the library in any order that you choose and continue with your normal draw (surprise terminus?). This is like ancestral recall on crack and sensei's divining top in one. It is not uncommon to be drawing 9-12 cards each turn late game if this sits around.

A note on Humility: You will probably run into issues opposing players that are unfamiliar with this card. Although well documented this is a card that is a consistent headache for opposing players and judges alike. The important point in the deck is that Humility makes all creatures 1/1's with no abilities; however because of time stamp rulings when activating your factories they are essentially 2/2's easily blocking opposing player's 1/1's and swinging for 2 a turn. Since humility doesn't affect lands you can tap your factories to pump up your other factories (mutavault) after they are animated making them swing or block at 3/3 or more.
