This deck is in two ways a first for me: it is both my first modern deck and my first burn deck. Thus, it is not the best deck of either type, and I need all the help I can get.
CREATURES
The creature-base in this deck may as well be burn spells since very few of them last as permanents; most of them requiring me to sac them at the end of the turn, which is why I am considering
Reckless Abandon
as a 2-of in the mainboard over Shock. Most of the creatures have haste and deal large amounts of damage in their one, live turn. You also may have noticed that this is an Elemental Tribal deck.
Kiln Fiend is the one creature that does not follow this rule, providing a body that synergizes with the burn spells, especially Boros Charm to deal some pretty nice damage to your opponent.
BURN
The rest of the deck relies on burn spells to hammer its damage home. I included Lightning Helix for the life gain to stay in the game for those last few damage points I need to hit to win. The rest are pretty basic, I think. I am also considering Banefire as a two-of to put in somewhere since it combos well with Generator Servant and is great against blue.
MANA BASE
I went with a City of Brass and Mana Confluence in case I decide to board non-Boros colored spells, but I'm unsure of what the SB will contain. The rest is pretty simple.
HELP?
I need help deciding if my creatures and burn spells are enough to kill my opponent quick enough, or if I need to opt to lean more toward burn for speed or creatures for longevity. I also would like some help with the SB because I am pretty unfamiliar with Modern, though I would think that something like Tormod's Crypt would play really nicely in the SB for the dredge decks.
Also, I'm looking to keep this under $150 with a sideboard, so please don't suggest ridiculously expensive cards. Thanks!
PLAYTESTS
Esper Mill (2-1)
The first game he won with two Jace's Phantasm on the field; I couldn't get the right cards fast enough.
In the second game, he got out Jace's Phantasm again, but only just after I had searched my library for
Nova Chaser
. I got it out on the field with him at 7 life. I swung with my 1/1 and Chaser, and then Lightning Bolted for the win.
In the final game, he mulled to 4, which killed him. I got out Kiln Fiend, and after I got him to around 13 life, he scooped. I would've combo'd with Boros Charm to swing for 8 next turn, and it would have pretty much been over regardless.
