I wanted to try out a pirate deck, because pirates are fun. Out of all the possible color combinations, I like Izzet the best because I think it has the best curve (it has 8 great 1-drops and a 3-drop that hits hard and won't cause you to lose the game against aggro, unlike Ruin Raider) and the best payoffs for playing pirates (Daring Buccaneer, Lookout's Dispersal, Siren's Ruse, and Fiery Cannonade in particular). It's probably not as fast or synergistic as merfolk or vampires, but it's a lot more interactive - Lookout's Dispersal is a great spell that should help you not die to a wrath, get run over by a god, etc. There's not much in the way of card advantage, except for Daring Buccaneer, which should help keep going into the late game, especially in conjunction with Siren's Ruse. Siren's Ruse also works particularly well with Dreamcaller Siren, which should make it hard for you to lose a race. Warkite Marauder plus a burn spell provides a good answer to resolved gods or other big, problematic creatures.
