Replacing Sol Ring
Commander Deck Help forum

Hey peeps, I'm looking for a bit of help.
My local game store is having a Commander tournament in a months time, and has decided that in addition to the normal EDH ban list, they will ban, Sol Ring, Mana Crypt and Mana Vault.
I was planning to take a copy of this deck Infect Commander as I've found it really fun to play, and I am now looking for a good replacement for Sol Ring but so far I haven't found anything that really tickles my fancy as a replacement
I really don't get places that ban fast mana but leave stuff like Burgeoning available. Dimir Signet is fine.

@Raging_Squiggle - I'm pretty certain with a deck price of $120, most of your suggestions simply don't fit into OP's budget. Besides, colored mana's going to be pretty important in OP's deck because of the budget land base.
Actually, something like Cultivate might work well for you as it will diversify your ramp sources. Sakura-Tribe Elder also works.

How about Jeweled Amulet? Super underrated imo

Jeweled Amulet takes time to go active. You want your ramp to be accessible and impactful. That rock only meets the first requirement.

Carpet of Flowers is an option if you expect blue decks to show up.

TheDevicer just curious, have you played Jeweled Amulet before?

TheDevicer Jeweled Amulet is basically an artifact version of a mana dork. It's best when you drop it turn 1 or 2 and use your early mana to charge it up, enabling a turn 3 or 4 threat. It's at its best in a super aggressive deck that doesn't have access to green.
Not to be a jerk but playing it is exactly kind of the opposite as how you're describing it.

I run amulet in Azami as well just because mono U has almost no mana dorks. Sea Scryer and Deranged Assistant are pretty much it that are worth running.
Amulet lets me have a mana dork.

Why are they banning Sol Ring? It's a Commander staple.

Ah yes I forgot about its use for blue decks. You're totally right Ohthenoises

The reason for them banning Sol Ring and the others are some of the regular players that are crying about how unfair it is, if someone has it in their starting hand and they don't... And since the local game store is dependent on a lot of those people for income they decided to make those additional bans.
I'll give it a shot in a few matches with the Dimir Signet and the Worn Powerstone, as they seem like good alternatives.

Copy Artifact can be any mana rock you want it to be..... cept the banned ones. Helm of Awakening can be great, but it can also blow up in your face, especially against the combo players. Expedition Map can be great especially if throw in something like Nykthos/Urborg/Strip Mine etc. In an environment without sol rings and such, clunkier rocks like Dimir Cluestone, Wayfarer's Bauble and Traveler's Amulet can be handy.

Given your super low mana curve, I am not worried about ramp for your deck. I think you'd be better served having more ways to get your damage through, but that's up to you.
Here is my infect deck - EDH RGB Poison. While it can be aggro depending on draw, it typically plays more like a combo deck. :)

Honestly, unless your land count is already high I'd just replace Sol Ring an co. with lands.
When I build I already count them as land slots, so I just replace them with other sources of mana.
My playgroup actually has a house rule to save time that whenever we play one-on-one games we just treat Sol Ring, Mana Vault, and Mana Crypt (if we had any, lol) as Wastes, in order to fit with the French banlist. Our decks function exactly the same.
Carpet of Flowers, Burgeoning, and Exploration are all great choices as well, and you should probably be running them even with Sol Ring in your deck.

I'd also suggest Tolaria West. At worst it's a slow Island in the first 3 turns. Otherwise it's fetching you your Temple, Passage, or whatever land you desire.

Why would a gamestore ban a card that's literally in every commander deck they sell o_O.

You have Golgari Signet and Simic Signet. Replace Sol Ring with Dimir Signet to finish the cycle. That would be my suggestion, but regardless, I would cut the ring for another way to ramp, since you'll be missing one.
