Foundations Update —Nov. 2, 2024

We got a couple new toys coming our way with Foundations. Mainly Scrawling Crawler, which adds to the density of Nekusar-like effects in the deck. We've gotten several of these in the last few years, which has been an exciting prospect while I've been putting the deck back together.

I also recently acquired an Italian Chains of Mephistopheles that's going to add to our victims'..... I mean friends' pains.

As of this update, I'm also considering Tinybones, Bauble Burglar, but am undecided. If you have a suggestion for a cut for this, please feel free to leave a comment!

Some people seem to like running Hullbreacher and Narset, Parter of Veils in wheels decks but idk seems pretty brutal to do so.

@Grind:

I've run both those and they shut off the commander. If they aren't drawing, they aren't taking the damage and I can frequently deal 60 damage in a turn, but not with a Narset on board.

Calleb Hey man! Thanks for the input. This deck is actually archived now, but Memory Jar is a sweet card I've never seen before. Thanks!

Alhammarret's Archive - Extra draw from wheels

An Offer You Can't Refuse > mana leak - Mana leak is only good early-mid game. Better to get a complete counterspell in EDH. Although this might be slightly more difficult in a 3 color build, given all your card draw, Misdirection should be considered as well. It's another deflecting swat and imp's mischief of sorts.

Mystic Remora - Draw, although perhaps not necessarily needed in this build.

I would cut megrim for another piece of artifact ramp like Mind Stone potentially. 10% ramp seems solid and would allow you to more easily 1) Cast your commander sooner 2) Cast all the cards you draw and recover from artifact wipes.

If you're going to run underworld dreams for 3 black, then perhaps an Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth could help with your 3 color mana base and casting requirement.

I don't play 3 colors but 2 nonbasics to consider, should you mana base allow it are Ancient Tomb for ramp and Riptide Laboratory. Riptide words with your commander and a few other creatures, most notably snapcaster mage.

How has necropotence been treating you? I ask because triple black along with GY exile is steep, but it does help with Thassa oracle and card advantage so I'm torn.

Would Notion Thief be helpful or anti-synergistic?

Profet93 Hello, friend! Thanks again for the suggestions. So this list is actually retired, though I've been toying with the idea of putting it back together. I should probably update the list.

This was one of my first commander decks I put together. I'd likely change it up a bit if I were to rebuild it. I think Riptide Laboratory would definitely be something to add in. I'm with you on Necropotence. It definitely never hurt to have it, but with all the extra draw going on already, I don't think it's really needed. It's also a non-bo with Sheoldred, the Apocalypse which I'd definitely have in the list. Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth would definitely be an add, as well, given how heavy the black portion of this deck is.

Notion Thief is, sadly, a non-bo with Nekusar. It shuts his damage ability off. The true spicy add that I've realize needs to be in this list is Grafted Exoskeleton!

Necramus ever put any thought into Fevered Visions?

July 11, 2024 1:06 p.m.

Necramus says... #12

ZacKrell yes! It was in a much earlier iteration of the deck. I cut it to make things more efficient. The problem with it is, sometimes it's just a Howling Mine. I don't run that card for the same reason- it's just been power crept out for more generically efficient/better cards.

Necramus definitely a fair point. It's more of a slow roll card so if youre trying to be more aggressive with your wheel and deal then for sure I could see why it got cut.

Great build mate, looks amazing! I also have a Nekusar deck and he's the GOAT! And just like you described I recently become more and more instantly archenemy when I take this deck out. You can check my build here, and maybe get some inspiration if you'd wish to! Definitely a +1 upvote from me!

Fun! A couple of cards I would add are: forced fruition, price of knowledge, memory jar/magus of the jar, peer into the abyss, and cerebral vortex

Bookrook thanks for the suggestions!

This deck is pretty lean. While, I think those adds would be a great for a lower power version of the deck, the intent here is to be as lean and mean as possible. In my experience, Nekusar is an Archenemy commander meaning that we rarely ever get to cast big, fat spells in a meaningful fashion. Cerebral Vortex was a card that was in the earliest iteration of the deck, but the unfortunate fact that it only targets a single player makes it pretty low on value.

Again, I do appreciate the suggestions, though! I like where your head is!

Memory jar and peer into the abyss are such powerful cards that I would play a copy of them anyway. Plus you can bluff peer to dissuade people from attacking you, as it is just a walking instakill. To counteract these pricier cards, I would play more ramp such as a skyclave relic or one of the signets. Helm of the Ghastlord is another card I forgot to mention.

Bookrook let me know how that goes for you!

Even if you want to keep the deck high power low cost, helm of the ghastlord is still so powerful with nekusar that I would play it. It’s just four mana and stops your opponents from gaining any card advantage.
