The deck looks fantastic. Any experience playing it? Hopefully it can be upgraded when standard rotates next fall, we will see what Dominaria brings.

Hey septimusg, we're actually going to be recording our next episode tomorrow, and Logan will be telling us a bit more about how the deck performed. Tune in here.

this deck is secretly the best deck in standard... went 4-0 at my lgs tonight. All the control players and their creature removal was funny. They have so many dead draws against this deck because nobody expects the burn in standard. nobody. Also Refuse is so good when they cast gearhulk and you dome them for 6.
the only deck I went up against that I had a hard time was a ramp-aggro dino deck. But with some lucky draws of Hour of Devastation and Sweltering Suns I managed to pull it off.
love the deck!

MisterDubis It pleases me to no end to see someone use (and succeed) with one of our decks. We love decks that surprise the meta, and often build them with that in mind, so we really love that no one is really prepared for MRC.Also, Logan typically runs me over with this deck. I've slowed him down with lifegain, but I have to close the game out very quickly, because any topdeck could be the last card he needs. I've found the best card to board in against it is actually Kambal, Consul of Allocation, because he has to burn it to deal damage to me, but it makes a big life swing. Whenever I land two of them in a game I typically have a good shot at winning.

This doesn't have a great matchup against Second Sun Control, just so you know. It also doesn't really have any way to deal with gods until you sideboard in Hour of Devastation .

Have you tried testing with Dynavolt Tower at all?

Hey RedMan929 I don't think Logan's tried using Dynavolt Tower although it's a sweet card. Without asking him explicitly, my guess is that it would end up filling a similar role to Primal Amulet Flip. But I'll run the idea by him!

This is a super cool deck. What is typically your win condition with this one?
Also kudos for making something standard that isnt cookie cutter.

Hey everyone, thanks for the wonderful feedback! Keep it coming, and check out the podcast episode for some of the finer details on the deck.
Jerpears, the wincon is pretty much just burn out the opponent with direct damage. Insult is often a closer, since it doubles everything that follows, and if an Amulet is down, it's all a lot cheaper.
Hey Snivy__, those are excellent suggestions and I'll pass them on to Logan. I know his original goal was to build as close to traditional burn as possible, meaning everything should target the opponent, and should be a spell (not a creature). So, Magma Spray, Abrade, and Soul-Scar Mage are out on that principle. However, they seem like worthy cards to consider, especially in the sideboard. Either way, thanks for the detailed input!

Think of Modern Burn. They run creatures because in a lot of cases they can do more damage than a Bolt would deal. Soul-Scar Mage in a standard burn deck is like Monastery Swiftspear, which is a 4-of ALWAYS, in Modern.

Hey Snivy__ great point! I'm gonna try to convince Logan to run it in the mainboard :)

I don't really understand why you play Spirebluff Canal. You don't have any blue cards, so it seems like it just slows down your deck.

I think the spirebluff canals are for the 4 blue aftermath cards in sideboard.

Hey Feltrix and pantsbot The Spirebluff are indeed for the sideboard Refuse/Cooperate. The effect of copying a spell (especially our own) is pretty powerful, and the Spirebluff are kind of in testing mode for us. We'll actually report in on how well they go (and if they remain or get replace) in our next podcast ep!

I don't doubt him. He sure knows how to build a deck, but providing that there are no creatures , why the hell he didn't put in Reckless Rage ?? Also, Etali, Primal Storm and Combustible Gearhulk would fit in perfectly in a control deck . I may try to brew one myself xD . +1

Hey ROUROU I don't believe you can cast Reckless Rage unless you have a creature you control to target. Etali is a pretty sweet card, but doesn't quite fit this deck, only because the "control" part is partially a joke. It's really a Burn deck, but since some of the good cards for burn are cards like Blur of Blades and Hungry Flames, the deck ends up being a bit on the control-y side. But make no mistake, when you play against it, it feels like a burn deck.

This deck is beautifull. I never play red in MTG, never ever. But this.. this I'm looking forward too.

Thanks everyone! Logan knows how to build a mean deck. Anyone who says Burn isn't viable in Standard needs to try to beat this deck.

I would probably cut the Open Fires for Abrades or Magma Sprays or Soul-Scar Mages. They can deal a lot more damage for less mana and Open Fire is literally a draft common because it's a 3 mana Lightning Bolt with no additional effects like Incinerate or Incendiary Flow. Even though those last two cards aren't standard legal, Soul-Scar Mage can get in for a lot of damage early, Abrade can either be a Lightning Strike or a Shatter, and Magma Spray can exile any creatures that come back such as Dread Wanderer, Scrapheap Scrounger and The Scarab God
