good deck, but i would add an Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver

Narcilius I had considered Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver but so far didn't add it because it exiles cards instead of mills. Cards like Lazav, Dimir Mastermind and Dimir Doppelganger both take advantage of creatures that get put in the graveyard. That said, Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver could be useful against graveyard decks. I would really put some more graveyard hate in here if you plan to mill. Combo decks are just fueled by putting the right card in someone's graveyard. Scrabbling Claws for example. I like the deck though, lots of flavor.

Thanks papahiggs. I do know what you mean, but it hasn't been a huge problem for me yet. I do have Bojuka Bog, but might also add Nihil Spellbomb or Tormod's Crypt if I find I need them. I appreciate the support.

Edskelton Yeah, Eater of the Dead is kinda nuts in a deck like this. The Meta tends to be so creature heavy that you really can often mill out 2-3 players at once if you distribute the milling correctly.... And that's if only 1 of them plays creatures.

Have you put any thought into the Leyline of the Void and Helm of Obedience infinite mill combo? I run it in any deck that can, especially EDH, it's a reliable win con and can target the biggest threat straight out of the game.

Maybe it's just me, but I never see a reason not to carry Archive Trap in a deck that has some sort of mill element. If it's kept in your hand, then the first few turns when people are fetching lands and searching for cards are quite funny, and get cards for Havengul Lich and Mortivore really quickly.

Lol, I disagree... It's not irrelevant. Favourite cards are important to making a deck your own, or to add a personal touch or flavour.

So question for everyone... If I'm choosing between Erratic Portal and Crystal Shard for a spot in the deck, which would you prefer to run?

How about when Capsize is ALSO in contention?

What would you cut in order to make room for Capsize AND one or both of those artifacts?

I would run crystal shard here. You shouldn't have a problem getting the blue mana reliably.

you could consider cutting Glen Elendra Archmage unless it's part of some combo i'm not aware of, because it's so expensive.

Maybe Slagwurm Armor too? let me know if that helps or not, i could suggest something more if it doesn't.

I say remove Decree of Silence because it costs a TON of mana and your opponents dictate what gets countered. I think erratic portal is better than crystal shard, unless you like the speed from crystal shard costing 1 less to cast.

Did you know that Intruder Alarm and Undead Alchemist goes infinite when you have Phenax in play? I didn't know that until I did it in a game (although I almost killed myself with my own Mesmeric Orb).

Hmmm.. Yeah my first inclination is to leave in Crystal Shard, but the requirement vs. could cause trouble when I need the mana to counter...

Glen Elendra Archmage is just too good to cut, especially cause it works with Crystal Shard et al.

Slagwurm Armor is also too key... Makes milling so much easier.... What about Capsize?

Lanzo493 I had actually missed that... I'd seen Undead Alchemist in lists before, but hadn't seen the interaction. I was focused on the fact that I didn't want creatures exiled because other cards I run interact with them... Hmmm....

I added Decree of Silence + Hex Parasite for a semi-lock, and have yet to see it in play, but I might just cut it and add the Alchemist and something else instead...
