Sideboard

Hey everyone, here is an attempt to make Vadrok, Apex of Thunder relevant for pioneer. Although the mechanic is promising in theory, finding a way to make it competitive is tricky and any advice would be helpful.

My thinking is that the power of Vadrok lies in its ability to re-cast spell for free and I created a mid-range deck playing around that.

Creatures:

Noncreature spells:

  • Myth Realized. Myth acts both as a pay-off for casting multiple spells and as an ideal target for mutation. Under Myth's creature, Vadrok is protected from most removal (especially with T3feri on board) and gives flying/first strike. With Vadrok and Arcanist, it is not difficult to cast 3-4 spells a turn.

  • Callous Dismissal. 2 for 1 card, slowing down opponent and providing target for mutation (with counter).

  • Azorius Charm. Considering the mechanic of the deck, spells need to be versatile. Azorius Charm fulfils this role, slowing down opponent and providing draw or lifelink with Arcanist's attack or Vadrok's mutation.

  • Teferi, Time Raveler. Obvious choice. Can be cast from graveyard with Vadrok.

  • Deafening Clarion. Since Vadrok/Drakkis can be protected under Myth Realized, Clarion is quite handy.

  • Jeskai Ascendancy. A nice pay-off with Arcanist and Vadrok and nice synergy with Jegantha. Whirlwind of Thought could be a nice alternative as well.

  • Censor / Dovin's Veto. For some control.

  • Opt. Easy to cast and recast.
