Second Highest on TappedOut! Thank you! —July 14, 2018

Thank you for everyone that got me to this point. This deck is officially the second highest Rakdos the Defiler deck on tapped out! As of this particular update, I would need almost 30 upvotes to get to be first, but I think it can happen eventually. The deck is still so fun to play, especially recently when I won with a Sulfuric Vortex in play, casting Pox, then tapping Heartless Hidetsugu to get everyone at one life (including me. All of my opponents lost on their upkeep haha.

We can get this deck to be the highest on tappedout! Upvote if you like it, and of course I am willing to listen to any and all criticism, feedback, and suggestions.

I was trying to avoid a lot of complete land destruction (meaning too many of my own), unless Black Market has enough counters on it. Thanks for the suggestions lefty117. I'll consider them.

Pretty dark premise you've got here. I'll admit to being the type that wouldn't really have fun against this type of deck, but I can respect the amount of power this would hold over the board.

So saying though, I wonder if you've looked into cards like Traitorous Blood, or similar cards, that would let you take your opponent's stuff before you swing with Rakdos, thus letting you sacrifice their cards in response to his attack trigger, and making them have less options when sacrificing to the commander's damage trigger. Something I've realized that is a really dirty combo within red is Radiate + Word of Seizing to take literally everything from everyone. Doing so might render the damage trigger unnecessary, but I doubt that would be what everyone else cares about at that time eh? Bonus points if you did this in response to what would have been a one sided board wipe.

Also, last idea suggestion; Obsidian Fireheart for a mana sink?

TheRedGoat - First off thanks for the compliment and suggestions! Secondly, my playgroup doesn't necessarily like playing against this deck either :).

As for your suggestions, I actually had not truly thought about those. This deck isn't made solely around Rakdos, it is merely a hate deck with him, and of course the ultimate hate is making my opponent lose their permanents. I am definitely intrigued by your suggestions though. It could help me take out certain creatures by merely sacrificing them, and I did not even know Radiate was a card. Somewhat mana intensive, but possible. Insurrection may be a better choice there, as it gets around hexproof and shroud, but Radiate can also benefit from my opponent's stuff as well. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll sleep on them, and possibly playtest, and see how I feel about it.

Thanks again!

Also, TheRedGoat Radiate + Word of Seizing doesn't work the way you want it to. Because of Split second none of the copies can go on the stack.

Wouldn't Mogis be better commander for the deck?

Pheardemons says... #7

DonaldFuck - First off, thanks for the comment.

Secondly, I don't believe Mogis, God of Slaughter would be a better commander as I believe Rakdos the Defiler is more of a hate card. Mogis, God of Slaughter would be extremely slow to bring people down. Rakdos the Defiler has a certain terror associated with him, plus is a more powerful win condition. I purposefully chose Rakdos over Mogis as I wanted a deck to be nothing but hate cards. Every card in the deck is something people don't like to play against. Mogis is simply annoying, Rakdos is a game changer and must be dealt with immediately.

It's simply a matter of preference.

Fair enough my friend. I really like your deck. I love ruining other people's day and i have already added it to my cockatrice account.

Also, what is cockatrice?

It's a free magic simulator. Like Magic the gathering online but free.

Hmm, I'm a little sad to realize that you can't copy Word of Seizing, but are you still interested in that kind of interaction? I do believe that if you have boots on a creature then they are considered "unable to be targeted" in regards to Radiate, so you could still get away with using Fissure with it and not lose your commander maybe?

I DEFINITELY love the fissure interaction. And yes that interaction is definitely worth playtesting. It is somewhat mana intensive, and finding a space may be difficult (for more than just the two cards). However Insurrection does somewhat fill that roll. Thanks for the suggestions!

You have the entire Hate Blue kit I love using!!!!!! Well, besides boil and boiling seas. I saw this deck and it just made my day so much better! Would you be upset if I built this?

Rant

First off, thanks for the compliment and glad it could make your day!

Secondly, not at all. I have no problem spreading the pure hatred that is Rakdos. Hope you destroy all of your opponents and make them bow to your power!

Boil and Boiling Seas are pretty metagame dependent. Possible dead draws in a lot of games.

Well, aren't Red Elemental Blast and Pyroblast the same issue as boil?

April 30, 2017 2:56 a.m.

Pheardemons says... #16

Rant - That is a point I will concede to.

I would argue that Red Elemental Blast and Pyroblast are a little better being that their only one mana, and that they can destroy a blue permanent as well. The deck doesn't need to be true control for them to be able to work. Not every blue deck plays enough islands for Boil or Boiling Seas to truly make a difference, but every blue deck will play some sort of blue permanent, or a counter or two.

Either way, you have any possible suggestions for the deck? Anything you can think of that may go well with the deck/theme?

Well, a card I'm definitely going to run in my build.... Havoc Festival, I also think Slaughter Games is good for removing a known target in any deck that learns how to deal with this big beautiful monster. Infinite Obliteration for repetition and consistency.

I also am a huge fan of Rakdos Charm in my play group. It's hilarious seeing someone mass a butt ton of tokens or creature then go in for a killing blow with craterhoof then killing them with its effect

Slaughter Games and Infinite Obliteration are interesting ideas. In a playgroup where you know what your opponent's are playing those are definitely good hate cards.

I thought about Havoc Festival for a long time. My problem with it is "players." My deck takes A LOT of life to gain advantage. Necropotence, Phyrexian Purge, Erebos, God of the Dead, Greed, Phyrexian Arena, Ob Nixilis Reignited, and Mana Barbs. I don't mind hurting myself to hate my opponents more, but I believe I need lifegain. I settled for Scytheclaw instead. Also, with Havoc Festival you will become a serious target. You will need to make sure you have protection to stay alive. At least with Scytheclaw I can try politics to stay alive by making a deal not to attack someone.

Also, Rakdos Charm was in there to start. I am realizing I need some graveyard hate. I might decide to add it in, or try Relic of Progenitus or Leyline of the Void.

Also. You need some hate on landfall in here. Zo-Zu the Punisher seems fun.

I do kind of like Zo-Zu the Punisher. I already put in Mana Barbs though. Either way something to consider. Thanks man.

I love the flavor, I feel like the names of your costume labels should be something like:

  • Lust
  • -Tutor
  • Gluttony
  • -Draw or Ramp
  • Greed
  • -Ramp or Draw
  • Sloth
  • -Land
  • Wrath
  • -Annihilation or Carnage
  • Envy
  • -Horror
  • Pride
  • -token
  • Vainglory
  • -Carnage or Annihilation

I enjoy entertaining that thought
