With the current state of modern there are so many "meta" decks that rely on a specific land base. Could Gruul Ponza become competitive again against so many decks where lands matter? I think so:

It's a basic ponza strat:

What the rest of the deck does:

  • Courser of Kruphix a 1 of to help get lands off the top of the library to prevent flooding and help draw into value,
  • Tireless Tracker generate clues for card draws and beats
  • Walking Ballista a win con that not only benefits from Kalonian Hydra, but you can also pull counters off of Ballista to shoot down threats, preventing someone from going too wide on you
  • Kalonian Hydra main win con of the build, blows up really quickly as it doubles it's Power and Toughness every time it is declared an attacker (also hits Tireless Tracker and Walking Ballista with it's ability as long as Tracker has a +1/1 counter)
  • Chandra, Torch of Defiance strong card that does everything you want in this kind of deck: card advantage/chip damage, ramp, creature removal, and her ult is a win con.
