Thanks to new editions coming from Guilds of Ravnica, there are many aggressively costed creatures that are quite powerful with the new mentor mechanic. This deck also looks to take advantage of Path of Mettle as many of the decks creatures will have either first strike, double strike, vigilance and/or haste. The perks of being a RW aggro deck is that you get fast creatures and good removal. I am really excited for this upcoming standard and hope to get many suggestions and ways to improve the deck (my sideboard is probably going to be the hardest thing to make for me at least).

Maindeck

This deck has a rather classic plan of killing your opponent dead quickly with a lot of small and fast creatures going up the curve which gets topped off by Aurelia at a crazy 4 mana.

  • One-Drops: The one drops are goblins from the Ixalan block the first being Rigging Runner which has the advantage of first strike and coming in with a counter if we draw it later after we've attacked (which we're definitely going to do most of the time). Next is Fanatical Firebrand a 1/1 with haste to get in immediately on T1 or any turn and with the advantage to sacrifice itself to ping another creature or our opponent (much like Mogg Fanatic.

  • Two-Drops: At two mana are Knight of Grace, Sunhome Stalwart, and Swiftblade Vindicator which all have good and relevant keywords. Knight of Grace probably could be replaced with Boros Challenger for his Mentor ability but having first strike and almost protection from black might put it above challenger. Now Swiftblade Vindicator has me really excited despite it being only a 1/1 it has doublestrike, vigilance, and trample! This can be a serious threat of it gets mentored by Legion Warboss or our other mentor creatures and could make pump spells a consideration for the deck.

  • Three-Drops: The three drops are also exciting seeing that Legion Warboss looks a lot like Goblin Rabblemaster creating 1/1's and spreading more power across the board. Now Tajic, Legion's Edge also looks extremely powerful for a three drop with haste and mentor (almost our 5th and 6th warbosses) and even saves our creatures from Shock and other burn spells and fight spells like Prey Upon and randomly can give himself first strike for RW. Lastly, Militia Bugler can go through our deck to grab on of almost any of our creatures off the top which can really help as we may need that last little bit of gas to finish off the game and can even grab Aurelia surprisingly.

  • Four-Drops: Finally, Aurelia, Exemplar of Justice tops off our curve at 4 and is very powerful as a flying 2/5 with mentor. The ability to pump a creature and give them either/or vigilance and trample can definitely finish off the game, even if the target is herself she can certainly finish off the game on herself.

  • Utility: Firstly, Path of Mettle   is stands out now that we have so many powerful creatures in the Boros colors with the appropriate keywords it needs. This does limit our deck a little bit to a bunch of one-drops that could work well with the mentor cards in the deck like Haazda Marshall and Dauntless Bodyguard however, the land on the flip side is like ramp and can shock our opponent or destroy our opponent's creatures that dare to attack us. Both of which can be very decisive in the late game should our deck reach that part of the game. Then Seal Away is very cost effective and efficient removal for creatures in our maindeck which makes it an easy include in our utility slots.

Sideboard

The sideboard may have to change depending on what standard looks like when GRN actually shakes up the entire format but looking at what sets are going to be left and what GRN is adding, exile and graveyard hate looks to be extremely important with three graveyard focused mechanics and a handful of recursive creatures existing. Cards like Lava Coil and Sentinel Totem can be key in keeping graveyards at bay. Sweepers may also be import for this deck against other aggro decks or midrange decks with creatures that are much larger than ours. Other hate cards like Sorcerous Spyglass are helpful against control and planeswalkers or other powerful activated abilities that this deck may otherwise have a hard time dealing with.
