Hello. This is a Simic Midrange deck.
The strategy of the deck is to put out resilient and evasive threats, in addition to value creatures, that eventually swing for lethal. The creatures have good internal synergies as well, and there is also enough draw and a bit of lifegain to play a longer game.
Fun interactions that inspired the deck include:
Young Wolf/
Stormbound Geist
+
Scarscale Ritual
, which allows another trigger of undying because the +1/+1 and -1/-1 counters negate each other. It's a shame ritual isn't instant speed, but you can still get some value plays out of it. For example, if I swing into a bigger flyer with geist, I can
Scarscale Ritual
in my second main phase without fear of it being bolted or what have you in response because the -1/-1 counter is placed as an additional cost to casting the spell. If it's the first thing I do in my second main my opponent wont have priority to perma-kill an undyer.
Wickerbough Elder
+
Scarscale Ritual
, so I get to snipe another enchantment or artifact.
Coiling Oracle +
Condescend
, the scry 2 effect can put a land on top of my library for oracle to put onto the battlefield. I was originally running Brainstorm as one of my draw spells, which is much more potent with oracle than scry effects, but I removed brainstorm when I took out Commune with the Gods and Satyr Wayfinder for more traditional draw effects
Below is a more in depth explanation of the card choices and their functions.
THE CREATURES
Coiling Oracle - A card similar to Elvish Visionary, but with the ability to accelerate if its ability catches a land. It's just as good to get t2 as it is t10, despite having a frail body. With rancor it becomes a bit more formidable.
Spellstutter Sprite - I think there's enough one mana removal spells, cantrips, and threats to make playing this card worthwhile, although it would definitely be stronger if I ran more faeries.
Mulldrifter - A format staple for many reasons and a natural inclusion to (m)any slower U/x decks.
Wickerbough Elder
- I really like this card. There are some matchups where it's a 3/3 for 4, but in the matchups it is relevant (kuldotha boros, affinity, urzatron perhaps) in it can put you just enough ahead to cinch a victory. It gets even better in postboard matches where opponents bring in cards like Relic of Progenitus.
Young Wolf - A resilient blocker/attacker that can come down early. Not as good of a late game draw, but it's undying ability makes it very versatile.
Stormbound Geist
- Another resilient attacker, but a bit less effective as a blocker because it can only catch flyers. Swinging with this card is the main win condition.
THE NONCREATURES
Scarscale Ritual
- Draw spell with strong synergy with half the creatures of the deck.
Piracy Charm
- Absolutely garbage removal spell but there aren't many better options in these colors.
Vapor Snag - Another psuedo-removal spell with the added bonus of bringing back one of our etb creatures about to die.
Rancor - A vital part of what gives the deck its teeth, this helps our weaker creatures put the opponent on a clock. Its built in recursion makes it as resilient as our undyers as long as we play around tricks that bring it from the stack to the graveyard.
Pulse of Murasa - Part of the late game value package that gets back a threat and gains some life.
Condescend
- A tempo-y counterspell with a powerful effect. Even if it doesn't counter the spell it helps you dig for whatever else you need.
