UltimateRoxas40 on Kathril, Nightmare of Indatha [Keyword Primer]

KllrRoboPenguin Thanks for the suggestions!

I could probably slot in Assassin's Trophy in the place of Beast Within. And I've thought about Divine Reckoning before, but I've found that a full board wipe has often been more useful than all but one creature.

Ripples of Undeath seems like it would fit this deck, but I agree, it does run a little slow. I wouldn't replace Sylvan Library with it, but maybe one of my 'ramp' cards like Grapple with the Past or Winding Way. I'm actually working on getting a copy of this card, so I'll slot it in and play a couple rounds and see how it flows.

Not sure how I missed Bleeding Effect, it does seem like a better Odric, Lunarch Marshal. I'll have to play around with adding that in too.

As for Shrike Force, it's a little too vanilla for me. And my issue with Ketramose, the New Dawn is that I can't stand the checkered flag set symbol haha. That, and his additional abilities don't really synergize well with the rest of the deck. I've tried to curate my creatures to be both a good source of keywords and also be effective on the field if Kathril gets sidelined for any reason.

I was wondering your thoughts on Assassin's Trophy, & Divine Reckoning as removal, Shrike Force for double strike, Ketramose, the New Dawn for menace & indestructible, Ripples of Undeath for milling and a sylvan library type effect, and Bleeding Effect as an alternate wincon?

Assassin's Trophy seems like an easy replacement for a Beast Within, and I like Divine Reckoning's utility of being able to be flashed back in case I mill it. Having more sources of indestructible and double strike counters seems good, but the creatures lack useful utility on their own. Trying to decide if Ripples of Undeath is too slow or not. As for Bleeding Effect, it seems like a better Odric, Lunarch Marshal effect that works perfect for our graveyard.

Let me know what you think!

kamarupa Short version is, what I have now is pretty much what I considered, minus a few redundant keyword creatures.

Self-mill is an interesting option, but in my very personal experience, I seem to be better at self-milling the cards I want to keep and drawing the cards I want to toss. I learned Dredge to try to weaponize that. So it's definitely on the table for someone with better luck, but I'm not sure I trust myself with it.

Skipping ahead to Pull from Eternity, I did look at it a little bit. Urborg Scavengers wants its cards to stay exiled while Soulflayer doesn't care, but if either one gets removed somehow, it's the best option to recycle the exiled card.

Counterspells are perfect sideboard material. Probably focus on the single- ones like your Mana Leak thought so the land budget doesn't explode.

Vampire of the Dire Moon got in specifically because it was castable as a 1-drop in this deck. Right now, there's no sac outlets, but I'm pretending it's a viable blocker or worth using removal on. I'll have to check out cheap self-saccers more carefully, but what I remember is that a lot of them have Selfless Spirit-style keyword granting.

More Collective Brutality. Noted and agreed. Sideboard artifact and enchantment removal. Noted and agreed.

Sword-Point Diplomacy can feed Ketramose, the New Dawn, but can also conflict with Flayer and Scavengers. I'll probably start with the 2-for-2 cards, maybe a Diplomacy in the sideboard.

I'm still working on the balance of keyword creatures to body creatures to support, so I'm not sure where this is gonna end up. Thanks for the suggestions!

Rhadamanthus on Ketramose + Planar Void

TypicalTimmy has the right idea.

First, your understanding of Planar Void is correct. It's a triggered ability that triggers when the card goes to the graveyard. When the trigger resolves, the card moves from the graveyard to exile.

If something happens during the Cleanup step that requires a triggered ability to be put onto the stack or a state-based action to be performed, then the game will deal with those things in the normal way, including giving players priority to take actions, and will start another Cleanup step right after it. This will continue until the game finally gets through a Cleanup where none of these extra things needed to happen.

In your example this means if you discard any cards to get down to your max hand size during Cleanup, Planar Void will trigger, causing Ketramose, the New Dawn to trigger. The game will start another Cleanup, you will need to discard again because of the card you drew from Ketramose, and you will keep doing this until you lose from having 0 life or from trying to draw from an empty library.

It's interesting to note that a similar interaction with the Cleanup step is sometimes also used as a "feature" in The Gitrog Monster decks. This Ketramose/Planar Void interaction could also be used as a feature if you have something keeping you from losing the game in one or more of these ways (Angel's Grace, Phyrexian Unlife etc.).

514.3. Normally, no player receives priority during the cleanup step, so no spells can be cast and no abilities can be activated. However, this rule is subject to the following exception:
514.3a At this point, the game checks to see if any state-based actions would be performed and/or any triggered abilities are waiting to be put onto the stack (including those that trigger “at the beginning of the next cleanup step”). If so, those state-based actions are performed, then those triggered abilities are put on the stack, then the active player gets priority. Players may cast spells and activate abilities. Once the stack is empty and all players pass in succession, another cleanup step begins.

I am interested in the interaction between Ketramose, the New Dawn and Planar Void. As I read it, the effect from Planar Void is not a replacement effect and thus, each card touches the graveyard before it gets exiled. In other words, instants and sorceries also trigger Ketramose? And what happens in the following scenario: Let's assume I have 8 cards in hand and go into my cleanup step. I then discard down to 7 and the discarded card gets exiled by planar void. Do I redraw and start this process all over again, meaning that I either kill or deck myself via Ketramose?

Ha, glad I could help. All is well, here. Thank you, and I hope the days are finding you well as well. Me and my buddy have been licking our chops over these Aetherdrift leaks; especially Temmet! Such beautiful and dynamic art and the power level is juicy. I am partial to the Ketramose, the New Dawn atm.
