Glacial Revelation Discussion

Lamplighter thanks for the tip, I definitely considered keeping it only two colors, but blue and green are essential for the deck and just keeping it those colors essentially makes it the original snow day deck. the reason I added black was mainly because of the fantastic removal that comes with Dead of Winter, its pretty much a three mana one sided board wipe, and additionally black offers cards like Rime Transfusion which makes the equipped creature essentially unblock-able, and Blizzard Specter which is just a good value card with its ability to bounce things, (it also just happens to pair nicely with Rime Transfusion by guaranteeing the fact that it deals damage to the player). So I see where cutting it down to two colors would make it more reliable mana wise, but with the Arcum's Astrolabe's and the Glacial Revelation's I just don't really see a mana screw happening, also by cutting out black I lose quite a few good cards, so I just feel that I get more overall value by keeping it at the three color

Thanks for your comment WolfishHat

I have not tried Conifer Wurm at all, definitely will have to try it!

II tried using Prismatic Vista and Into the North, but it makes my Glacial Revelation and Scrying Sheets less reliable, I do have them though so I could give them a try again.

As I mentioned, I hate Teferi, Time Raveler, but I added it as a "catch all" card to get rid of artifacts and enchantments too, not only creatures. it has the plus of stopping any removal at instant speed. I could definitely replace them for an Assassin's Trophy, I will try doing that. If I get rid of white all together it will be a completely different deck I think, I usually prefer On Thin Ice over Dead of Winter to increase the snow permanent count on the battlefield.

These are great suggestions, thanks a lot!

I like the direction you are going. Prismatic Vista, while not budget, will work well as a mana fixer.

4x On Thin Ice, pull a Winter's Rest for it.

You can cut 1-2 Marit Lage's Slumber and work in Glacial Revelation, as everything you have will go to your hand other than Rancor.

Thanks a lot for your comment Icbrgr! I love the snow archetype although there is not a lot of support and the card pool is very limited, but I love this deck anyway!

Engineered Explosives is definitely an improvement over Ratchet Bomb, and if you want to be more competitive is definitely the way to go. I will try to get my hands on a couple of them. This deck is already 4 colors (kind of, black is just for the sideboard), and you can even go 5 with Arcum's Astrolabe

As for Into the North, I tried it but most of the time I rather draw into a Glacial Revelation instead. I tried to keep the snow permanent count as high as possible so as not to fizzle when casting it, that is the only reason for not having it in the deck.

I appreciate the suggestions. So far Flooremoji the Ohran Viper has been stuck in my hand. It’s 3cmc competes with Dead of Winter, Glacial Revelation, and Blood Moon. I am debating replacing them with Icehide Golem or Boreal Druid.

Of course this is a janky deck that tries to win some matches, but it is not even close to be even a tier 2 deck.

I agree that Remand does a poor job protecting the creatures, where Negate or more Dovin's Veto would do a better job. In the beginning I felt the deck needed more card draw, but I think replacing it would be a better option.

As for Gaea's Blessing, functions as card draw and allows to recover any non-permanent card that goes to the graveyard with Glacial Revelation. I hate when my counter spells end in the graveyard and I cannot recover them, any suggestion to replace this card?

As for Dead of Winter, I come across some decks with little amount of creatures, but I guess it depends on the meta, but it usually works in an awesome way.

Thanks a lot for the input Funkydiscogod!

In the original build I had Wayward Swordtooth instead of Dryad of the Ilysian Grove , but when Dryad of the Ilysian Grove appeared it looked like a natural replacement. I also tried with Azusa, Lost but Seeking , but being a legendary is a major downside in this deck. The reason to include Dryad of the Ilysian Grove is not just the mana fix, but the ability to dump lands onto play adding to the snow count to get to 10. This helps a lot when casting Glacial Revelation so you can dump your hand into the battlefield.

I also tried with the tapped dual snow lands, but I had 2 issues:

  1. They are extremely slow without something like Amulet of Vigor

  2. Only 5 of these lands exist, there is no snow land :(

I also had Icehide Golem at one point, but it would be no surprise to know that it dies to everything. Coldsteel Heart seems like it may have a place in the deck, but I still feel that this card is very slow. I will try it again.

That's a tough question. After a good look-over, I think I'd cut the Boreal Druid s. My thought process on that is this: generally, one-cmc mana dorks are most powerful and most useful when you're playing them on turn 1 to slam a high-power 3 drop on turn 2. The only thing you're running that I would consider being worth the dedicated dorks to be able to slam on turn 2 is Blood Moon - and in order to do that, you have to have exactly forest, boreal druid, blood moon, and either mountain or prismatic vista in your opening hand & first draw - since you're only running one mountain, that's highly unlikely.
I'm not saying Boreal Druid is a bad card, I'm just saying that in the type of shell you've built here I think more often than not when you draw it, you're going to wish you had drawn something else. That does bring your creature count a bit low though, and seeing how it's already on the lower end that's something we want to avoid. All things considered, here's what I'd do:
Cut: 1x Marit Lage's Slumber , 3x Growth Spiral , 1x Carnage Tyrant , 4x Boreal Druid
Add: 1x Into the North , 2x Assassin's Trophy , 2x Diamond Faerie , 4x Glacial Revelation

Of course, that's just my opinion. Whatever yuo decide to do, good luck and have fun with it!
