I’m not sure what Jorn, God of Winter  Flip is doing here… he doesn’t really add any value regardless of which side you cast.

UrzasUnderstudy on Official missing/incorrect card/token thread

That seems weird if only because Asmoranomardicadaistinaculdacar technically doesn't have a 'cost' cost and only an ability that costs or and yet she ends up in the gold color identity column and not over with poor accidentally uncolored Greasefang and the Hope of Ghirapur. I guess she has the little pip next to her types. I mean I can see that you might not be using these cards in a format that doesn't rely on color identity, but they still have it and a lot of people use it for deck construction.

I guess if I were to make a suggestion for functional options maybe adding a color identity button would be good.

Oh and couldn't find Jorn, God of Winter  Flip or Svella, Ice Shaper just looking for 3 mana legendary green creatures, unless I add in 'legendary snow creatures' which makes it feel like I'm expected to know snow creatures before actually looking for them.

Anyhow you caught me in the middle of typing up the following when I noticed the quick reply:

I have a slightly more complete list of cards that don't seem to have the appropriate color identity at least as far as searching them out and organizing them on my side goes. I was looking for a list of all the possible Tiny Leaders a person could use (so legendary 3 mana value or less creature cards that could serve as a commander in a game that uses commanders) and these are the cards I could not find if I searched by color identity or if once I found them they didn't fit their color identity (in all cases they show up under a single color category instead of 'gold'). There are probably several other cards that have this issue that exist outside my search parameters.

multimedia on Muldrotha Snow: The Frozen Forest

Hey, well done with such a low budget, The Undead Forest is a cool deck name. Interesting deck idea for your first Commander deck with Muldrotha, but why snow? Weathered Runestone completely shuts down Muldrotha.

Marit Lage's Slumber, Jorn, God of Winter  Flip, Priest of the Haunted Edge, Blood on the Snow, Ice-Fang Coatl these are some reasons to play snow with Muldrotha. Iceberg Cancrix can repeatable self-mill and that's a good effect with Muldrotha. Pilfering Hawk can be repeatable loot which gets cards into your graveyard. Unfortunately, this isn't many cards.

Draugr Necromancer is a good card with snow, but it doesn't have much interaction with Muldrotha. Dead of Winter is another good card with snow, but Muldrotha is not a snow creature. Narfi, Betrayer King is fine, able to reanimate itself with snow, but he's support for snow not really a reason to play snow.

Some advice to consider is to play nonsnow cards that can put snow-covered permanents (lands) onto the battlefield to meet the snow requirement for snow cards without playing lots of unnecessary snow creatures. The best way to get snow permanents is with snow-covered lands. You really don't need lots of other subpar snow creatures here.

All these creatures could be cut to improve your deck.

Instead of playing lots of lesser snow creatures, play just the better snow creatures here?

Use other deck slots for cards that can search for and get snow-covered lands onto the battlefield?

Consider adding some spells that are not permanents that can search for and put snow-covered lands onto the battlefield?

Cards that can get snow-covered lands into your hand as well as get cards into your graveyard can be helpful with Muldrotha.

Could also add some snow mana rocks and mana dorks?

Land ramp for snow-covered lands and mana from mana rocks is more ramp which also helps to cast 6 mana Muldrotha as well as having more mana to cast permanents from your graveyard when you control Muldrotha.

Example of a budget more refined creature base with snow.

Good luck with your deck.

legendofa on Too many legendary creatures.

TypicalTimmy Of course, I enjoy the creation forum, and I know that new legendary creatures are popular there. I've happily put together a good few myself. But there's a difference between a fan site and official company policy, and right now the official company policy seems to be to create a potential commander for every niche and specific ability, and a few broad ones to cover all the bases. This makes a lot of the official ones, the ones most likely to be seen in the wild, either hyper-specific (Jorn, God of Winter  Flip, Satsuki, the Living Lore) or generically useful (Kenrith, the Returned King, Volo, Guide to Monsters). And that's not touching the non-Commander-focused legendary creatures (Lurrus of the Dream-Den).

I'll poke at the numbers with your outlier suggestions, but I don't think it will change the trend of legendary creatures per set jumping. First, though, I need to correct for the Thalia, Guardian of Thraben reprint in Crimson Vow.

TypicalTimmy on New EDH mechanic - Treachery

So, my understanding is that color identity refers to mana symbols present anywhere on a card. This is why a Commander such as Alesha, Who Smiles at Death is Mardu and not mono-red, because she has on the card, even if it is within her text box. Similarly, this is why Jorn, God of Winter  Flip is actually Sultai, because Kaldring, the Rimestaff is Dimir and still part of the MDFC card.

The reason Extort is unique is because it is within the reminder text, not an activation cost or benefit or anything. Because it is in rules clarification, it was agreed upon that Extort can bend the rules of color identity, slightly.

Now, going on topic of this design, if there is no present, then he isn't Black. He would be mono-white and thus only viable as a mono-white Commander, with rules stipulating that you may include extra cards.

Not unlike how the rules of Relentless Rats work, shifting the singleton into any number. Similarly, how the rules of Grist, the Hunger Tide work to allow him to be your Commander because he is a creature outside of the Battlefield - E.G. your Command Zone.

I suspect that if WOTC printed 5 mono-color Treachery cards, one for each primary color, there'd be a ton of backlash and questioning and then a slurry of videos on Youtube would be released and everyone would suddenly accept it for what it is. Then you'd have the community split in twain, half saying it's mechanically fine and a non-issue and the other half saying how broken and dumb it is and why not just make this guy Orzhov and call it what it is.

At the end of the day, people will always find a reason to argue.

I was just looking for potential, untapped design space. That's all.

seshiro_of_the_orochi on Hardest MTG Names to Pronounce?

Regarding to each and every english speaking youtube channel I've ever watched, everything that's not perfectly english in origin is veeery hard to announce (looking at you, Jorn, God of Winter  Flip).

The most obvious have already been mentioned. For me as a non-native english speaker, rarely used and complicated words like vociferous always need at least a second or third read before I know how to pronounce those.

Jorn, God of Winter  Flip. Thanks so much for the suggestion nbarry223! I am considering adding two in the place of Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet. What do you think?

TypicalTimmy on Commander's whose color identity are …

I am trying to make a list of Commander's who have a color identity that extends beyond their casting cost. These are the ones I know of, and I would like to know if there are any others out there.

This list EXCLUDES MDFCs from Kaldheim and Strixhaven, such as Esika, God of the Tree  Flip, Jorn, God of Winter  Flip, Blex, Vexing Pest  Flip and Plargg, Dean of Chaos  Flip. The reason I am asking to not include these types of Commanders is because their color identity and casting costs match.

I am specifically seeking Commander's who have a casting cost that lacks their full color identity - that is to say, they have colored mana symbols in activated or triggered ability costs that are not part of their cost to cast the spell.
