Dimir needs a finisher.

I am a huge fan of the dimir characteristics of play. All the underhandedness and deceit. I love the feel of it. Unfortunately right now dimir has sub-par mill and crap creatures to go with it. All the cards go together rather well, but you're stuck with that strategey of milling to play dimir to its fullest, and while i do enjoy a good decking, i don't want it to be my only option in my colors. That being said I think of all the guilds, dimir could and should have a decidedly badass finisher. No, I don't want to use AEtherling . Yeah, he's cool, but it's just not my style. What do my fellow dimir fans think would make for a good creature to rival the likes of Obzedat, Ghost Council , and Blood Baron of Vizkopa

I'm thinking he might be spendy, but well worth the payoff

I still want Hythonia the Cruel to be played as a control finisher. She blows up everything, blocks/kills other wincons, and is big enough to kill. Unfortunately, she's kinda bad.

Duskmantle Seer makes things very interesting, very quickly. If you were playing a lower-curve deck, especially if you put in Thassa, God of the Sea to set up your trigger-draw, you could have an interesting deck on your hands.

Desecration Demon comes to mind, as well as a few other demons.

Consuming Aberration turn 5. Traumatize + Aqueous Form turn 6 = epic finish

What about dimir control.. you would have access to counter magic and bounce spells and spot removal to keep your opponents board in check, Whip of Erebos for some lifegain, and I like the idea of using Consuming Aberration as a finisher. There are things like Aqueous Form , Thassa, God of the Sea or even Rogue's Passage to help him get through unblocked, Mizzium Skin to protect him from being exiled against selesnia decks or Chained to the Rocks . I mean I don't have a specific decklist in mind, just throwing out some ideas that could probably be used in some combination to help put something together. Oh yeah, Underworld Connections could help keep your hand filled with things like the counter spells for instance.

Desecration Demon isn't much of a finnisher. for dimir usually Consuming Aberration becomes really really good with enough control. In combination with Thassa, God of the Sea and scry lands Duskmantle Seer can really screw your opponent over. you don't really want to use Underworld Connections in dimir because you don't have a way to gain the life back.

have you looked at Abhorrent Overlord

that's why I also suggested Whip of Erebos as something that could be included in the deck, it probably means your going to be playing more black than blue, but with how large Consuming Aberration can get gaining life would be as simple as blocking. There are plenty of blue cards that let you draw more cards but Underworld Connections I think would be more consistent and can be used every turn. There is also, the Bident of Thassa , but that requires you getting damage through to your opponent. Using Thassa will help make that possible but really it would all depend on what direction you actually took the deck. If you were trying to play lots of control and then just use Consuming Aberration as your win-con you probably won't have enough creatures to be able to attack and defend yourself. As, far as Abhorrent Overlord is concerned, it's a lot more expensive to cast but you could probably use that in the same way, but you'll need Black devotion for it to stick around long enough since you have to sacrifice a creature every upkeep, which means things like Underworld Connections and Whip of Erebos would be valuable because of the BB in their casting cost. Duskmantle Seer is an interesting card because, at least at my LGS, lots of people are playing R/G monsters or Green ramp devotion decks. They have lots of cards with high casting cost so you could hurt your opponents quickly, but the Red aggro, R/W agro, and White weenie decks wouldn't be hurt by it as much as you would be. Of course you'd still need some lifegain in a deck featuring Duskmantle Seer as well so you don't accidently kill yourself off.

I wouldnt call Breaking / Entering A "sub par" mill card as it is eight for two cmc and then there is Tome Scour at a one drop to knock out five of their deck? For draw power cards Pilfered Plans is mill ready and cost efficient - the life lost from Read the Bones I like the mention of Duskmantle Seer and Thassa, God of the Sea i had never thought of that combo to whittle away at an opponent. As far as finishers go Consuming Aberration is a downright beast. when not blocked it is usually game over. Lets not forget at a 3 drop Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver is a win con all by itself if not dealt with soon. However i get what you where saying when starting this thread. I feel U/B could definitely use another closer and am anxious to see what the next set may have in store for DImir fans such as myself.

the mill cards themselves are fine, like Tome Scour , and Breaking / Entering , but i feel like, if you want to lead that into a creature, Consuming Aberration , can be huge, but he is too easily dealt with or chump blocked in a competitive environment at FNM. there are plenty of cards that can be used to great effect with Consuming Aberration like Rogue's Passage , and Aqueous Form as some mentioned, but i'd be playing blue black control/mill, and i don't want an aqueous form sitting in my hand until turn 6 when i put it on the aberration. he's just not highly effective on his own, compared to other guild's creatures.. i do like the idea of using Whip of Erebos , but it kind of seems like more of a stall, and in a low creature count mill deck, you won't get a ton of use out of it. my one thought was splash green for Bow of Nylea , but again, that's cards in my deck that are only in there to make the aberration function better.

i'd also love to see some better card draw for blue. Bident of Thassa is great in a more aggressive deck, but i'm talking something like how well Visions of Beyond works in a mill strategy.
