Standard Deck Help forum

Hi all

I play standard with a real life mate but as we are very casual we have never really used planeswalkers.

I now find myself in possession of 2 * Chandra, Flamecaller + 2 * Jace, Unraveler of Secrets and a Saheeli Rai but I'm just not having any luck building a deck round them :(

Am I setting myself an impossible task? I don't want to spend any large amounts of cash as its casual but could get a few cards from standard if I've not got them.

I do have 2 * Padeem, Consul of Innovation plus a few of the new Concoction artifacts if that helps. I also have 2 gearhulks but 1 is green and the other black.

Thanks in advance.

Regards

How about try a Red/Blue (Izzet) or Red/Black/Blue (Grixis) deck?

Use the 3 planeswalkers in it along with thatNoxious Gearhulk, and you can use some of the following cards:

Decoction Module, Unlicensed Disintegration, Galvanic Bombardment, Dynavolt Tower, Glimmer of Genius, Saheeli's Artistry, and so on god a 3 color control deck.

I will make up a decklist for you if I can.

Autocorrect is so annoying, that was meant to say "and so on for a 3 color control deck"

Anyways take a look at this decklist, I tried to keep in mind the prices, and so you might have noticed some exclusions for the lands, however I left some cards as a maybe that I believe are possible additions, most of them I left out due to costs.

I made an effort to try to accommodate your Verdurous Gearhulk although that was a little tricky.

Play all the removal and card draw spells you can get your hands on and rely on those 5 walkers to carry you to victory. I would personally play an UR energy focused deck with infinite combos inside.

Whirler Virtuoso + at least three of any combination of Decoction Module (at least one) and Panharmonicon is infinite number of thopters. add some Filigree Familiar for gaining life and the cards mentioned above and you are golden!

Yeah I was actually going to suggest something like that next Boza, it could make use of Aether Hub and or Prophetic Prism so the gearhulks could be used, along with Panharmonicon.

So here it is, the advantage to do something like this that Boza suggested is that it's still in fact even cheaper than what I suggested above. This is just a start, it's not even down to 60 cards quite yet, but I think it would be a better choice over the earlier Grixis control deck I suggested.

Seriously I don't why that has to keep happening, it's a little annoying.

Do not click more than once on the post button. It is most likely that site lags a bit. Wait for it and don't click.

Otherwise, I like the latest deck, cheap and efficient at what is does. I would add more Glimmer of Genius instead of foundry inspector, but still pretty nice.

Thats brilliant thanks.

Looking at the second deck I think I have about 2/3 of those cards, unfortunately I have no Panharmonicon and only 1 Whirler Virtuoso so I might just build what I can then experiment while I see if i can afford those cards.

Must admith though I do like that deck, its completely out of my comfort zone (normally play blue/white or other control decks) and certainly never use more than 3 colours!!

Question though: If you use Saheeli's ultimate and bring in the 2 gearhulks & panharmonicon do their abilities fire twice each or just once because they enter the battlefield at the same time?

I had to actually check the rules on that one, here is what I found: http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=panharmonicon

"If Panharmonicon and an artifact or creature enter the battlefield at the same time, those permanents entering the battlefield will cause triggered abilities to trigger an additional time."

So yes it does work that way that you were thinking.

Ok so I bought some cards and started basing a deck upon above and saw a bit of a problem ... the deck you created has 65 cards in :(

So that being said this is what I've come up with ...

Planeswalker

"This is just a start, it's not even down to 60 cards quite yet."

I didn't have much time so I threw that decklist together, I would have had it down to 60 if there was more time.

Anyways with this new list of yours, I would change up the sideboard some. Add cards like Ceremonious Rejection, Aether Meltdown, Tears of Valakut, Summary Dismissal, as you don't need 4x of some of those.

1-2x Summary Dismissal can replace Displace as you already have the Decoction Modules, 1-2x Ceremonious Rejection instead of Glint-Nest Crane? 2-3x Tears of Valakut taking out a Negate,Built to Smash and or possibly another Displace and then 2x Aether Meltdown perhaps replacing your other Built to Smash?

Oh I'm sorry, should of read further and I do really appreciate it.

As for the sideboard, yet again I have most of those spells so will have a play around. Hoping to test on Friday vs a mate so fingers crossed :D

Question though: If I have 2 * Panharmonicon, 1 Decoction and a Virtuoso how many energy would I get for creating 1 thopter? Does the 'additional time' for the energy created by the thoptor being created double up to 3 or 4 energy?
