Most disappointing pulls

A few years back, I was buying random packs of Future Sight because they were only $5. While I did pull a couple of good cards such as Grove of the Burnwillows and Sliver Legion, I also had one of my biggest disappointments buying a pack. As I was thumbing through the cards a of a pack I had just purchased, I noticed a green alternate border foil at the back of the pack. My pulse started to race and I move the last card to reveal a Quagnoth. $@#%&. Stupid Quagnoth!!! Y u no Tarmogoyf?!?

Anyway, Has anything similar happened to you all?

I once bought a pack of Homelands as a small child.

It didn't have a rare in it.

$65 on 6 packs of MM2015 thinking I should hit a mythic at that number. Opened 5 bulk rares and Comet Storm. Back to swearing off of packs for me.

I once opened a fatpack of Eventide with my friends. I opened mine last, they all got above average pulls. And I got 4 Thunderblust from the same fat pack. I still have them to this day in my binder of funny stories (mostly ripped up expensive cards, lol). I was very young and excited to open this new set annnnnd 4 Thunderblust. Later I was told it was likely a sorter mistake to have that many of the same card in a fat pack.

Just did 10 packs of Conspiracy: Take the Crown, because gambling. 5 for my wife and 5 fore me. She pulls a Sanctum Prelate and I pull Sovereign's Realm. At the same time, my buddy and I both open 3 Eternal Masters from the same box. I get Mystical Tutor, Arcanis the Omnipotent, and Pyrokinesis. He pulls a foil Sensei's Divining Top and a Mana Crypt....FML.

Story 1: My MM2 box had very little value and only 2 mythics- one of which was Comet Storm.

Story 2: I played quite a bit during Zendikar. Recently someone opened my binder and asked why I had so many of the rare lands (Crypt of Agadeem cycle) because I have between 3 and 5 of the U, B, and G ones. Not even the more playable Emeria or Valakut. My response was to note the lack of ZEN fetches.

I opened at least 10 of the bad rares, and never a fetch. Gambling at its finest.

depends on the pack.

i opened a pack of Visions recently, and my uncommon (Worldly Tutor) was more valuable than the rare. i wasn't disappointed with that.

the trick about buying packs is to not expect anything. then, when you do buy the odd pack of BFZ, and you open an expedition Scalding Tarn, you will be pleasantly suprised.

Booster boxes are the same... if you go into buying a box of the new set thinking you're going to get your money back or more, you are deluded.

but, when it does happen; "oh boy!"

Got a pack of Eternal Masters once. Hoping to pull a Mana Crypt or Force of Will. Ended up pulling a Control Magic. I cried a little inside. I did break down and get the rest of a booster box couple weeks later and did pull both of those as well as a few more things.

I quit thinking it was worth buying packs around the time I pulled the third Pyxis of Pandemonium.

A year and a half ago i pulled the trigger and bought 5x of the Urza's Saga boxes with 3x boosters in each from my LGS (i forget what the boxes are called). They were $65 a piece which is actually a really good deal. :p

I opened them all and my best pull was a Great Whale.

It was the worst gamble of my life, hands down.

To be fair, i've had amazing pulls too. I only opened 3x packs of MM1 and hit a foil Sword of Fire and Ice, Cryptic Command and Pact of Negation. I also opened 2x Alliances packs at $20 a piece and hit a Force of Will when it was at it's peak. So i can't complain too much. :p
