Quagnoth

Creature — Beast

Split second (As long as this spell is on the stack, players can't play spells or activated abilities that aren't mana abilities.)

Shroud (This permanent can't be the target of spells or abilities.)

When a spell or ability an opponent controls causes you to discard Quagnoth, return it to your hand.

The deck is at 100. But I'm not done yet...

Angel's Grace

Celestial Crusader

Trickbind

Take Possession

Wipe Away

Sudden Spoiling

Extirpate

Sudden Death

Word of Seizing

Sudden Shock

Sulfur Elemental

Krosan Grip

Stonewood Invocation

Quagnoth

Kicker Molten Disaster

Don't get the pattern? Maybe I can help you. They are cards w/ Split/Second. This means I can't cast anything to counter this, & would have to require a Mana Ability to counter it. What cards w/ Mana Abilities in all possible colors can counter these cards? We have Creatures that can't be Out-Flashed, Instants that can't be countered, & other nasty effects.

Any suggestions that can help? I'm thinking of replacing Mizzium Meddler for something that can counter this. Anything could help in this case. Thanks in advance. :)

Spotted Angelic Favor in the modern section.

Also Quagnoth cannot be put onto the battlefield, i think you might have misread that part. It just goes back to hand on discarding

Found myself scouring the list for ideas again =)

SandyDufresne on Most disappointing pulls

A few years back, I was buying random packs of Future Sight because they were only $5. While I did pull a couple of good cards such as Grove of the Burnwillows and Sliver Legion, I also had one of my biggest disappointments buying a pack. As I was thumbing through the cards a of a pack I had just purchased, I noticed a green alternate border foil at the back of the pack. My pulse started to race and I move the last card to reveal a Quagnoth. $@#%&. Stupid Quagnoth!!! Y u no Tarmogoyf?!?

Anyway, Has anything similar happened to you all?

so for my competitive land destruction for example: hopefully epoch doesn't get mad:

The Ultimate Land Decimator!

I made a sideboard of this:

3x Lone Missionary3x Loxodon Smiter3x Quagnoth2x Summoning Trap4x Thrun, the Last Troll

should wreck control decks, has good anti discard mixed with it, and some life gain corpse. Those lone missionaries actually won me a game against a zoo deck so that validated their worth to me; especially when Noxious Revival was recalling them.

but take my land destruction for example; I play it the most cause its fun and strangely has won the most. I fight against the control deck I mentioned before which had Voidslime. I still can't find a deck list. I might just make one off of memory and it should be good enough.

so:

Quagnoth and Loxodon Smiter and Genesis Hydra sound very cool

Genesis Hydra is VERY appealing. I didn't realize that you still get that affect cause it was 'cast'! Its like an uncounterable Genesis Wave.

and Quagnoth and Loxodon Smiter. These three are very nice vs counter decks.

::

I play a range: I have done zoo and control myself; experimented with 4 color reliquary obliterator which was my second best deck next to token control. I don't really play any one deck so let's assume a more midranged zoo since that's something your all aware of that is very close to what I play.

for specifics: lots of creatures that destroy things or gain life or make tokens upon entry: Thragtusk. I even run Acidic Slimes cause they are great removal that can be bounced with Restoration Angel; then have Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker for combos. kinda a land destruction kiki deck.

sry I'm weird. Gotta be weird to try to beat the wack jobs I fight. I'll really try to get a decklist of that control deck I fight. I would like to see it myself as well (might just play it, its beast)

Not sure it's quite what you are looking for.... but Genesis Hydra is often good.

The creature itself can be countered, but the "when you cast" part can't. - As such, you will still get another permanent to put into play that they have to deal with... which already means they need to use multiple cards to deal with you casting the Hydra.

Quagnoth - Already mentioned, but worth repeating. - Can't be Thoughtseize'd, Counterspell'd, or Path to Exile'd... only Wrath of God effects work.

Etherium-Horn Sorcerer - All cascade creatures become 2-for-1's... barring board wipe. - But this one has repeatability, and can avoid board wipe. (I know, likely too expensive... but fits what you are asking for)

What's the difference between not casting and countering a cast? nothing happens either way. strange. People I know much rather fight land destruction cause at least the low cost comes out and you can fight. No fighting control... but alright.

more cards that are cool vs control:

Quagnoth: so he is a 6 cost which is pushin it but hey... he fits all my other criteria: Can't be countered (splt second), has shroud (can't be removed unless nuke or bounce all), has significant damage output, and has another purpose which is versus discard decks.

pretty good.

others include:

Extirpate: perhaps, you can take out graveyard like mentioned above was good, and it could take cards out of their hand, reduces their good draws. can't be countered!

a good multi purposed burn: Sudden Shock: some decks like infect have little instant ramps to protect their critters, they can't respond to this removal. Can't be countered and such.

dunno, just looking around. Trying to make a good list of cards and then draw conclusions and theories.
