Commander Deck Help forum

Horde of notions or the reaper king and why?Ive been interested in the reaper king, but i didnt like it was mainly changelings in my builds.I attempted horde of notions, and it didnt go over so well. What do you people think? And why?

What are your reasons for choosing those 2 commanders? What made them what you wanted above others? The tribal stuff? The commander's abilities? Or perhaps just the fact they're five color which gives you access to everything?

My entire playgroup is getting into 5 colors, i refused to go infinite with the sliver queen, tazri seems strange im not a fan of rally triggering once though i mean not all allies have cool abilities. One of my friends is making the sliver overlord i think?Ankther friend is making scion of DragonI made a horde of notions deck, it was just horribly made, but i like the recursion I was always interested in reaper king, just never got around to it because i bought a horde of notions

Have you considered Child of Alara or Karona, False God?

The first is good for control, the second is good for voltron or beat-down tribal.

I have a friend in the middle of building a Horde of Notions deck and another friend in the middle of building a Progenitus deck. I personally have always had my eye on Reaper King as well. I just like the whole scarecrow thing, but I too am disappointed with the lack of decent scarecrows and that changelings would have to be utilized to fill in gaps. That said, Reaper King would still be my choice for as PepsiAddicted said, destroying 25 permanents is fun (not to mention that blowing up 25 permanents will likely win you the game). If you want a pure tribal thematic then go with Horde of Notions.

Honestly though, as Raging_Squiggle said, Child of Alara or Karona, False God might be better choices. One other that I've seen some fun lists built around is Cromat.

Don't let the text box of reaper king fool you, he's a changeling tribal commander and tons of fun. You get to run some of the strongest tribal cards without having to be in the tribe. Goblin lackey, matron, harmonic sliver, etc... Run all of the changelings and clones and have a sweet deck. Horde of notions is lame in comparison.

I own a child of alara, i just never seen him as a fun commander in my playgroup since we arent super competitive, but casual i mean only two of us have any board wipes in living death and scrap mastery, so i stood away from him for my playgroups sake.Karona i did look into for a little, but voltron is not my style, i tried it with doran, and uril, my friend is building it with kelemne, it just isn't for me im more of a group hug player, as in ill sit around often times waiting for the right moment, yet with thraximundar i go all out.I guess i like synergy in where a deck is built around the commander, which is why i looked at tazri, horde of notions, and reaper king since they involve tribal in a sense.

The scarecrow king loves his changelings. With tons of changelings you can get the best of all the lord cards. You've got your Death Baron, your Harabaz Druid and Elvish Archdruid as well as Wirewood Channeler, Captivating Vampire, Gravespawn Sovereign, Azami, Lady of Scrolls, Grave Sifter, Knight Exemplar, Call to the Kindred, and, my favorite, Utvara Hellkite. Also, Rooftop Storm sounds really fun, especially when paired with Gisa and Geralf or Haakon, Stromgald Scourge.

If you want to go with the king of scarecrows, you could always add cards like Conspiracy and/or Xenograft. I personally have a Karona human tribal deck and it does pretty well. Also, how casual is your playgroup? Do any of them allow cards like Nephilims (Yore-Tiller Nephilim, Ink-Treader Nephilim, ect.) to be used as commanders? What about stuff like Genju of the Realm? My playgroup plays with those types of non-commander commanders and they're a lot of fun.

Reaper King for sure. But don't build tribal. Tribal is boring and everybody does it. Reaper King stax for the win.

My playgroup tries to avoid making the game unfun for other players in our playgroup examples like winter orb or any land destruction unless absolutely necessary. They will allow reaper king, but i cant target land unless absolutely necessary.

We also try to avoid infinite combos where its 2 random cards, but if its 4+ pieces we will allow it, and we dont use many tutors at all i think im the only one with tutors honestly

Use double square brackets around the card name. Or just have a look at the tutorial, it'll explain everything.

You don't have to play stax Reaper King, it was just a suggestion. But it was more of a point that just because you can build a tribal deck, doesn't mean that you should. Yes, tribal tribal is cute and all but honestly most tribal builds are pretty cookie cutter and you can make something a bit more tailored to your play style if you branch out.

I love Horde's recursion, you can use it to reanimate mana accelerators (especially ones that sacrifice for lands) but my favorite five color legendary is Cromat. Versatility is the name of Cromat's game, I have a deck with charms, commands, multikicker, and guildmages to make sure I always have options. With escalate from Eldrich Moon it gives me even more options. Cromat isn't overpowering or combo-oriented but it is still fun to play and play against
